They don't run on water, water (and a very small amount of Nitrous Oxide) is their exhaust. Fuel-cell cars are planned to be available in California in 2004.

Funny how oil seems to "run low" at certain times.
In Los Angeles we always get nailed on prices.

2002-06-24 06:15:46 PM
Hmmm... I just saw "much of the nation" the past few days as I drove from Salt Lake City to Vacaville, Redding, San Francisco and back.

I must have missed whatever gas stations are involved in the price drop.

Something I thought I'd share...

I recently got a new car (a very sweet PT Cruiser) and in the owners manual, it actually suggests that you use the lower octane 'cheap' gas, that the engine was designed to run the best on that, and that buying the more expensive stuff was basically a waste of money and gained you absolutly zip.

Interesting, no?

I'm paying a 1.33 for the cheap stuff.. prices aren't going to go down, we're already used to the higher prices, thus they'll fluctiate them maybe 10 cents at the most, and before you know it we'll be at 2$.. i want alternative fueled truck now.. that is easy to get fuel for and i fit in :-)

2002-06-24 06:31:07 PM
hmmm...think I'll fire up the old back-up generator and run it overnight to make sure it is running ok. ;-)

Pittsburgh---> 1.30 for the cheap stuff.

2002-06-24 06:33:03 PM
About a buck twenty for cheap gunk here, BTW.

2002-06-24 06:33:23 PM
Prices - Prices! This is a real "GAS" problem !

"GAS" PROBLEM IN DENMARK

2002-06-24 06:34:49 PM
Kurpal, you get lucky being in LA. In San Diego, the gas prices are always at least 10 cents higher than LA prices. When I'm up there for school I always fill up in Whittier, and hope the tank lasts until I get back.

Alternative fuel trucks? Great idea, but don't expect it to come soon. The major hurdle now is generating enough power from the engine cheaply.

2002-06-24 06:40:46 PM
That's funny, earlier today in my town it was $1.22/gal around lunch and now when i went home it is $1.45/gal. I thought that the gas prices are "going down". If this is down, I would hate to see what "going up" would be.

2002-06-24 06:50:21 PM
21 cents down here.

2002-06-24 06:53:27 PM
we should all just be stoners and ride around on bikes and longboards, then they would come crawling back begging us to take their worthless gas.

2002-06-24 06:53:29 PM
AndrewFish, I fuel up in OC where I work. Costs less than Lower LA (harbor area) where I live.
I guess because oil comes in on tankers, but we only get the leftovers.

2002-06-24 07:04:13 PM
Yeah, you'd think being close to the Long Beach refineries would make gas cheaper.

2002-06-24 07:05:45 PM
I don't think it is the gad prices that are going down, I think the meant we need to start "going down" to get money to pay for gas.

I spend my summers in Chicagoland and my ass has been hurting for the last couple years.

2002-06-24 07:09:34 PM
At least gas prices aren't what they were a year ago, at well over $2.00. And I came back to LA just in time for that, too. And it stinks really bad from that MTBE crap.

2002-06-24 07:10:09 PM
Blah..stay away from Westchester County, NY and Ridgefiled, CT.... $1.50 for the cheap stuff....$1.80 for 93+

bleh

2002-06-24 07:17:52 PM
sure am glad i live in Phatlanta -- land of cheap cheap gas!

2002-06-24 07:24:32 PM
This story is utter bull crap!!! Prices in San Diego, CA have actually jumped 4 cents recently and the average price at the el-cheapo gas stations is $1.55 for regular NOT $1.44. This kind of stuff is just propaganda to keep the zom-bee public from realizing what true shiat the economy is in. Things really are that bad and they're only gonna get worse!!

2002-06-24 07:31:04 PM
in other news, the oil execs are still making a 50000% profit.

2002-06-24 07:31:37 PM
Wedge: Every car (model) is different, and you should check the manual for every car you buy. My own car specifically states to NOT USE ANYTHING LESS THAN 91 OCTANE. The emphesis (capitol letters) is theirs, not mine.

2002-06-24 08:28:17 PM
This should have an "Unlikely" tag.
But then, I think I pay too much attention to the tags anyway. Mwuahahahahaaaaaa

"Gas prices drop for much of nation" How about adding "SUV-moms rejoice."

2002-06-24 08:51:38 PM
too bad I don't live in the most of the nation area. We're running on average 1.50 a gallon for the super cheap stuff. I've seen it as low as 1.35 (amazing long line there) all the way up to 1.85 (not a car in sight).

but hey at least I can be lazy and stay in my car when getting gas...none of that inconvient pumping

2002-06-24 09:06:53 PM
I call Shenanigans!

$1.65 for 87 octane ('cheap'stuff) in SF.

2002-06-24 09:27:15 PM
Oh yeah, they're lulling you in to a sense of complacency. Wait until Tue Jul 2, those price will SOAR for the holiday.

Don'ty believe the hype. And drive safely. Who else is going to Origins this year? (Warning: OHP targets out-of-state plates. Observe speed limits in OH. No Shiat.)

2002-06-24 09:43:17 PM
Am currently paying 1.29 for the cheap stuff. Prices here at Fort Carson, CO have been pretty stable for the past month or so.

Docterhnical: Good call about the upcoming holiday. You can pretty much expect a hike when the forth rolls around.

2002-06-24 10:26:18 PM
Prices drop, my ass. Wow - one cent - Sh!t.

Yeah its called compression-ratio of your car's cylinders. Your pt cruiser probably has 8-1 compression. Of course your not getting the power compared to higher compression. If you were driving a Porsche with 12-1 compression and put 87 octane gas in your engine you will probably blow a hole in your piston. Sometimes on older cars that have engine knock, using higher octane will relieve the engine knock. Other than that, going to higher octane that your engine's compression-ratio needs is nothing more than a waste of money.

It always amazes me when idiots who drive hondas put 93 in their engine because they think their getting more performance.
