Here's a great way to celebrate having your entry green-lighted: getting you grammer handed to you by Bush. :)

/I'm one to talk.

It IS after the All-Star break, right? It's pretty much tradition with the Braves, from what I've been told, to suck up to that point and then start kicking butt. Or handing butt in this case.

Generally the Braves do wait until summer to really pour it on, but they have a much deeper hole than ever before and perhaps the weakest pitching of the last 15 years. But, if they keep scoring over ten runs a night they really don't need stellar pitching, just someone who can reliably close games. The closer situation is just a train wreck this year.

It was Weaver, it had to be. 9 pitches to the exact same spot, low inside corner, and the 9th is hit for a grand slam. You would think that after he had fouled the prior 6 pitches Weaver would have caught on. The Cards have been doing better with pitching, it will be their downfall.

/Cards fan, couldn't you tell?

The A's seem to have the same problem. Suck mightily in April and May, then go on a tear in June and July. You can almost set your calendar by it.

Sometimes it DOES matter where the game is played.

So help me God, if I ever step foot in Comerica Park for a baseball game, I may have to kill everyone.

I missed something... was last night officially "Busch Stadium and Albert Pujols Night" in St. Louis?

I was hoping for a Braves win, and when I saw Jeff Weaver was the Cards starter I knew it was in the bag.

They are 30-18 in the new stadium. Is there some type of customary MLB 48th game in a new stadium celebration I don't know about?

Agreed, halpo53. Not sure where the "celebration" is from. Park's been open since april, Pujols has been on the team for a few years now. And, by its very existence, almost ANY stadium (save the Crapperdome) is better than turner field. Who the fark would want to watch baseball in that lifeless crap factory, let alone that anti-christolic hellhole of a city????

Last night's game was joyous; it was like the 1996 NLCS all over again.

The lineup has finally, finally gelled. And if Andruw hitting .220 the rest of the year buys us everyone else hitting .350+, I'll take it. Pretty soon, someone is going to have to pitch to Andruw, and hilarity will ensue.

I just hope the momentum carries into the next two weeks (3xPHI, 4xFLA, 3xNYM), and that we score about 60 more runs against Philadelphia in their incompetently small ballpark.

Ah yes, 1996...that was the year that the Braves ran in to the 1-2 punch of Rivera / Wetteland, right?

/Rivera as a set-up man = scary.
//How many division titles equate to a WS title?
///Braves = worst announcers in baseball (White Sox a close second)

Somehow the concept of 1 game out of 162 games is lost on Will in this post today. I mean, sure, that sucks, but it's Jeff Weaver, and there's another game today!

maxwellhauser: White Sox a close second

You can put it on the boooooooooooooooooooooard....

While we're mocking SandwichMan, what the hell does "incompetently small ballpark" even mean? The only way I could assign it a meaning was if a wall was
And dude, the Braves are not winning the division. If the Mets coast at .500, they finish 90-72. The Braves would have to go 46-23, or .667, the rest of the year just to tie. Baseball Prospectus simulates the rest of the season 1,000,000 times, and the Braves' division chances are 2.15% (admittedly, the highest it's been since June 11, which is also the last time Kansas City had even 1 chance in a million to make the playoffs).

Goddammit. I should know better to use the less than sign, even when previewing. If the wall is less than 250 feet from home plate, a ball hit over it isn't a home run.

FriarReb is the smartest man I know.

He knows so much more then what the media tells him.

When I go to turner field and see the kids smiling, and the families have fun, I laugh at the children because they are just victimized pawns to corporate america.

Joking aside.

I think the middle america is more religious then the south sometimes.

Anyways didn't the clan start in Missouri also?

A semi-positive Braves headline? Say it ain't so. For every 20 there were about Atlanta's glorious demise, there may be 1 story about their turnaround. Maybe. Nahhhhh. Go Mets!

try using < for < .

And while the Braves are still in a deep hole in the East, I still hold faith in the Mets' ability to collapse in August, in a heap of fan-induced self-doubt. Kind of like the Phillies, but a month later.

So, I'm looking for one more Sharpie Night, where we show up at the Ballpark, order a Coke, and bring the '(n) in a row' cups up to date.

Speaking of Braves and stadiums....if you've ever been to Turner Field, one thing really sticks out:

"Daaaaaaay-o!"

2006-07-18 04:40:35 PM
The celebration part of the headline involves the guy who runs Deadspin, who is a huge Cardinals fan. It was his first game at the new stadium.

when's the last time the mets collapsed in august? 2002? is anybody from that team still around?

I don't get it when people talk about the mets' "annual second-half collapse," as if they have a 12 game lead in the loss column halfway through july every single year and blow it every single year.

haplo53: when's the last time the mets collapsed in august? 2002? is anybody from that team still around?

Trachsel... I think that's it. The Mets aren't going to collapse this year but I won't count the braves out until they're a dozen games out with 11 left to play.

And even then, they're still my pick to win the Wildcard. It's them, the Reds, and the Astros. They find themselves a closer next week, and I'm not going to be happy.

Bingo. This ain't John Franco's Mets team anymore. As long as nothing catastrophic happens to Wright and Reyes, the Mets will win the division with ease.

BTW, why aren't you on TF anymore? Mets support is needed behind the curtain! :)

So Monday night the reason the Braves won was because of Weaver pitching. well last time i checked starting pitchers tend to not pitch back to back nights. So what is ya'lls excuse this time? (Braves won 14-5) it couldnt possibly be that the Braves are a decent team that just had a bad stretch for a month...
