AMEN!

2002-06-23 01:29:21 AM
Well, either that or have the King of England in our face.

2002-06-23 01:29:38 AM
Now if they would just allow me to carry mine concealed...

2002-06-23 01:30:20 AM
Misleading headline. The article says that most people think that the Second Amendment allows ppl to own guns. It doesn't say that they agree with it.

2002-06-23 01:30:57 AM
No s**t. Conservatives and liberals both agree that law-abiding citizens should be able to own guns. Criminals shouldn't. I wasn't aware that this was even news-worthy.

2002-06-23 01:31:24 AM
Take that Communism! ;-)

2002-06-23 01:32:04 AM
I may be responsible enough to own a gun, but I sure as hell don't trust the crazy guy down the street with one.

You either!

2002-06-23 01:32:24 AM
Seems pretty obvious that we can do away with that whole bill of rights thing, cause i want to make sure no housewives learn how to make holes in stuff at long range. Yep its outdated... uuu huh.

2002-06-23 01:32:39 AM
Robbie: have you seen Australia's homicide rates? They have really strict gun control laws...

2002-06-23 01:33:04 AM
Move to Georgia, Slayerswine. :-) I have my permit in my wallet. Or better yet, move to Vermont. No permit needed. If you are allowed to own a gun, you are allowed to carry it concealed, no permit required. Just the way it should be.

And yeah, we need to bad those "assault weapons". Do you know how many people were killed by vicious drive-by bayonettings last year alone? :-/

Keep those bayonet lugs illegal! Do it for the children!

2002-06-23 01:33:27 AM
PS- their homicide rates are really low.

2002-06-23 01:34:10 AM
While only a surprising 3.09 percent supports personal rights.

"Totalitarian is the way to be!" Says James Osmonds, 34, of Bangor, Maine. "Vote republican!"

2002-06-23 01:34:20 AM
Paulson im gonna have to disagree with you on that whole 'liberals want people to have guns' thing.. cause thats simply not true. They (and im being broad here, obviously) want to uninvent guns. If only we could.

2002-06-23 01:34:24 AM
"And in other news, homicides up 35%" Where is my gun anyways...

2002-06-23 01:34:25 AM
Yeah the American people need to have weapons, so that when the time comes we can throw off a tyranical government. That is what that ammendment of the constitution is there for, so the people can defend themselves from the government.

2002-06-23 01:36:36 AM
IMO:

Pistols= bad. They have no purpose except to kill people.

Rifles= meh. They have legit non-murder uses.

Shotguns= meh. Good for keepin them youngins offa yo land.

Automatics= good LORD! There is nothing you can do with a a fully automatic weapon besides put lots of holes in someone.

2002-06-23 01:37:00 AM
Code_Archeologist oh no dont say that .. someone will ridicule you, saying thats an outdated princible and that it cant happen anymore. Then in another thread they will call Bush a Nazi. Good times.. and im going to stop now. *joke here*

2002-06-23 01:37:22 AM
I think the poll was mostly run in Texass and NW WI.

2002-06-23 01:37:35 AM
If they could make it where the bad people don't get to have guns I would be as jolly as a lollipop, but if they can't it would make me all saddy-waddy to think of the nice people who want to have their guns to not be able to have their guns cause the bad people can have them too okay?

2002-06-23 01:37:48 AM
Tairngire - I own lots of pistols and haven't ever killed anyone. Don't plan to either.

2002-06-23 01:38:58 AM
Anybody who has ever taken a statistics course can tell you that these non random, voluntary polls are bullshiat. Your sample comes only from those who want to respond, and those who want to keep this right will care the most and be more likely to answer the poll. So, in other words, its ridiculously slanted, and you can completely disregard it. Ready? Go.

Wow! Another misleading headline!

"But most also favor some restrictions on that right..."

and

"Most do support some restrictions on this right, with 57 percent of Americans favoring "stricter gun control laws."

Oh well.

2002-06-23 01:40:48 AM
Andonbray: what can you do with a pistol besides shoot a person? Knives can kill people, but they can also be used to prepare food. Wire can kill people, but it can also be used in pianos. Pianos can be dropped on people to kill them, but they can also make music.

What purpose does a pistol have besides maiming someone (shooting range doesn't count- it's just practice for shooting someone)?

2002-06-23 01:40:59 AM
Full auto is a better non-lethal deterrent. If you put a short burst of M60 rounds into the floor at a would-be thief's feet, he'll run like hell. Same goes for grenades. Oh, but people can't get these weapons. Hah. HAH. HAHAHA. Right.

I keep a loaded gun on me wherever I'm legally allowed to take it. If someone tries to take it, I'll shoot them in the knee. If someone breaks into my house, I'll give them one warning shot. If someone refuses to heed the warning, I'll plant a round through their frontal lobes.

2002-06-23 01:41:45 AM
I agree with whatever he said ... Americans have an inalienable right to bare arms ... and also to wear long-sleeved shirts if they want.

2002-06-23 01:41:57 AM
Its amazing how the media is surprised at this news, they really dont get it. People want guns. The only real gun control people want is restrictions on those who are dangerous. Unfortunatly the far left wing would like us to believe that ANyOne with a gun is dangerous and up to no good. Idiots.

2002-06-23 01:42:02 AM
Andonbray,

While there are many people who are responsible gun owners like you, there are far and away more who are not.

2002-06-23 01:42:19 AM
Raijin: with that attitude, I'd better just use a car bomb to off you. Where's your gun now?!

2002-06-23 01:42:31 AM
Sorry Boobiesontheside with an article like this I have to start the forum by slashing some gasoline around

Somebody owning a handgun for personal protection I don't have a problem with, but when Johnny Q. Psycho snaps and decides to buy a semi-automatic assault rifle at a gun show without getting a background check... well, that's when the problems start.

2002-06-23 01:45:03 AM
You can use a pistol to hit somebody in the face. Well, that doesn't count, right?

2002-06-23 01:45:47 AM
The question was essentially to interpret the 2nd amendment.

I was surprised that so few (imho) thought that it meant "rights of individuals." (I think it clearly means that, both in the wording of the amendment and the documentation of the intentions of the writers of the amendment.)

If the amendment should be scrapped is another question--and I won't even comment on that.

Silly people, guns don't kill people, G. Gordon Liddy and a EF #2 Pencil kill people.

Robbie: I just sprayed water on my screen. "Pistols don't have to be used to kill- they can also be used to pistol whip someone!"

2002-06-23 01:46:24 AM
Unfortunatly the far left wing would like us to believe that ANyOne with a gun is dangerous and up to no good. Idiots.

Maybe not everyone, but definitely enough that more gun control laws are needed. Do you really think that this country wouldn't be a safer place if the possession hand guns were illegal?

2002-06-23 01:46:41 AM
Slayerswine Unless you are a felon, here in Arizona you can do just that! It is common here. As andonbray stated, I also have pistols, don't want to kill, but in case of emergency, I plan to.

2002-06-23 01:47:02 AM
ExLife: Fear not, if his name is Johnny Q. Pshyco there is no way they'll let him purchase without a backround check.

I've got a serious problem with this survey. I skimmed down to the bottom and it says this:

"Methodology

This ABCNEWS.com survey was conducted by telephone May 8-12, among a random national sample of 1,028 adults.
"

Which is all well and good, but when you look a little bit closer at the geographical breakdown of whom supports what exactly you notice this:

"Northwest 65 68
Midwest 77 54
South 77 56
West 68 54
"

Hmm... ok, lets say I live in the Northeast. This is supposed to be a nationwide sample of over 1000 people, and yet when they break down the survey by region, you only cover about 2/3rds of the country. The Northeast has been excluded as well as the Southeast.

This means that either they didn't survey people from these areas, making the entire survey of national opinions worthless, or they did a terrible job representing the results of the survey, making me question their competence at the rest of the surveying. I would ignore this poll until we get a better explanation.

Common Sense: don't have assualt rifles on the market. It amazes me that some nuts classify an assualt rifle in the same category as a hunting rifle.

Then again, hunting humans sounds like good television:

Robbie: I'm a little nonplussed as to the pistol whipping idea. Tasers are funnier.

Shanghai Gumbo

It's funny that you say "Johnny Q. Pshyco", because in many states the mentally challenged are allowed to purchase hand guns. Not to allow them would be considered discrimination.

2002-06-23 01:53:01 AM
Thornhill: so, they allow guns to sold in Florida and Texas now. That's just asking for trouble.

2002-06-23 01:53:11 AM
RaijinZ, unless you're a sharpshooter with a rifle, it would be really stupid for you to try to "shoot them in the knee". More than likely, you'll miss and then they'll take your gun away from you and put one through your head.

2002-06-23 01:53:14 AM
Banning handguns worked out splendidly in Romania, Russia, Cambodia, Nazi Germany, Uganda, China and other countries, didn't it? Heehehehehe....

2002-06-23 01:53:51 AM
well i did statistics as my maths majour at university. the poll is flawed. its not a random sample. it could not possibly show the general consensus of america.

i am sure if you had a TV station with a "i love guns" marathon with movies, docos and the like, and half way through this marathon you put a phone in poll, i am sure 100% of the people that call up support guns.
does tht mean that all americans love and want guns?

no i havent read the article and no i am not american.
