Damn commie bashtards. I'll give up my windchimes when they pry them from my cold, dead hands.

2006-07-12 03:03:48 PM
but at least it's a nice, polite candian version of authoritarianism

2006-07-12 03:10:33 PM
One set of windchimes might sound ok...

...but that's not what the elderly cat lady has in her backyard. Oh no. She's compelled to buy every set she's ever seen at the swap meet/county fair, so that she has an entire wind percussion section. clangity clang clang all night long. At least the canadians are nice about it.

Oh, it looks like Loudass McChimeyton is all riled up. Too damn bad, you yard art freak.

This should have a farking hero tag. I hate wind chimes.

Seconded.

Wind chimes? My second favorite 12 gauge target.

2006-07-12 03:49:35 PM
I would make the worlds biggest stinking chimes out of 8 inch galvanized pipe and a 5lb clacker.

/First they came for the windchimes and I said nothing, then they came for the dream catchers and still I said nothing.

I like wind chimes.

:/

That's what bothers me the most. If my wind chimes were bothering someone, I wish they'd come to me and say something. They could have just called me first."

Although I hate wind chimes, he has a point here.

I hate people who whine about tiny little pet peeves and applaud any legislation that restricts the things they don't like.

humans are not meant to live close to each other.

2006-07-12 06:33:14 PM
How could someone hate windchimes?

Now banning car alarms, that I would support. It's not like anyone ever responds to them. They could just make a car alarm that calls your cell phone or your land=line if your car is messed with, and that would be just as useful and not intrusive at all.

2006-07-12 06:34:42 PM
This is almost as bad as the Chicago ordinance banning ice cream truck music after 7:30 PM. I'm still trying to figure out whom shat in whom's Wheaties over that one.

2006-07-12 06:34:44 PM
My mom has like seven of them hanging from our front porch. Sometimes it's nice, but since they're all different, they don't really "harmonize" well.

If you're going to bring up Chicago, I'd complain more about their gun control policy.

Heh. I have windchimes, and sometimes they keep ME up at night when it's hot out and the windows are wide open. Always wondered what the neighbors thought about them.

I used to assume they would knock on my door and air their concerns if they had a problem. Now, not so much.

I too would be royally pissed off if someone phoned in an anonymous complaint because they were too afraid to make normal, neighborly social contact.

humans are not meant to live close to each other.

Amen, brother.

2006-07-12 06:38:31 PM
Wind chimes I like, but I fully understand that others might not. The complainer should have spoken to his/her neighbor before siccing the code nazis on him, though. Going immediately to the authorities is just chickenshiat and cowardice. Are people really that timid around their neighbors?

Wind chimes bugging you? Have a chat.

Dogs barking in the night? .40 cal right to the brain case.

2006-07-12 06:38:38 PM
First put a noise limit on vehicles (especially motorbikes), and then we can tackle the windchimes.

At least windchimes don't permanantly damage your hearing.

Prioritizing has never been a Canadian gov't strong point.

2006-07-12 06:38:54 PM
Wind chimes.. They suck. Nothing takes you out of a good scary movie like the neighbor's wind chimes bonging away.

2006-07-12 06:40:46 PM
I hate wind chimes, over the past 30 years my wife ocasionally will put up wind chimes. They misteriously dissapear in a few weeks. Don't have a clue of what happens to thim. ( wink, wink)

motorcycles have the right to loud exhaust for a reason, to keep the rider safer by being HEARD since most drivers' heads are too far up their asses to SEE them. I agree that some are a bit too loud, though.

2006-07-12 06:41:23 PM
If a car alarm is sounding for more than 3 minutes or if it goes off without being addressed by the owner more than once in any 60 minute period, it should be legal for anyone else to take minimal steps to disable it. Since the car is locked, minimal steps would include the use of a 5lb sledge on the driver's window. If the alarm mechanism is in a non-obvious location (to someone like me who's never had a car alarm), dismantling the dash with a crow-bar should not be out of the question.

a bit??? a bit??? when I can hear them inside my house, nowhere near the road they're likely on, that's too friggin loud.

besides, if the drivers are as bad as you say, they won't hear them either.

2006-07-12 06:44:30 PM
It's not your neighbor's job or responsibility to tell you that you're creating a noise nuisance.

You should have enough awareness and consideration to not create the nuisance in the first place.

2006-07-12 06:44:57 PM
Some Motorcylces around my neighbourhood are so loud that they set off the car alarms.

I'm not about to go complaining to the Angels though, I'll just annoy them right back with my windchimes.

2006-07-12 06:45:03 PM
So now following up a complaint referencing a specific bylaw = "declaring war on" wind chimes?

I mean it's not like there's a quote within the body of the article which directly contradicts that particular assertion, right?

The city's noise bylaw was last reviewed in 2004 and at that time, the city had received enough complaints about wind chimes that they were included, although like a number of provisions, enforcement is complaint-driven.

"It isn't something that we go out and actively enforce," she said.,

Oh wait, I get it. Submitter's got a case of the asshats.

As for cowards who can't talk to their neighbours about petty crap like this, please just die now.

2006-07-12 06:45:35 PM
I'd rather they do more to enforce the noise laws regarding car stereos. If you drive down a residential street after 10 p.m. with that shiat on, you are an asshat.

/more of an asshat than you already were for buying it

2006-07-12 06:45:38 PM
I hate wind chimes.

Actually paid someone to steal a neighbors once. (I did not want to get caught - yes I know it was a cowardly thing to do.)

I COULD have complained about them but the neighbors were not entirely reasonable people...and when they went missing afterwards, I would have been a prime suspect.

Ned.

Wind through palm leaves = soothing.

if you're going to bring that up I'm gonna bring up the fact that I remember when they didn't have a murder one day and it was big news because it was the first time in many years there wasn't one..

/do I have a point, no.. other than chicago and anyother city like that is farked right up.. the last thing they need are more guns

2006-07-12 06:48:44 PM
riiiight that's exactly what we're gonna do in the middle of the night, is come pound on the neighbors door to get him to take down his chimes.
/yay for non-wind-chimey neighbours!

No, but would you rather the first time you realized that something you did or had in your yard was annoying from

a) The bylaw officer
b) a friendly comment from the neighbor

It's all about not being an asshat.

2006-07-12 06:49:41 PM
Poor baby! He had to suffer the injustice and humiliation of being served an impersonal paper with absolutely no consequences instead of engaging in a time-honoured tradition of getting in a fistfight with a neighbour over something that doesn't even matter!

I just wish I could effectively shut down the idiots who play basketball at FOUR IN THE MORNING in the park behind my house. Seriously.. FOUR IN THE MORNING (the park closes at 11pm). There's something really wrong with that.

2006-07-12 06:49:54 PM
I have one on my back porch, I love it, luckily the neighbors windows aren't too close.....

I hate the dog that barks day & night next door.........now that is annoying

TFA: The notice informed him that "yelling, screaming and noise of the like are not permitted in the City of Kingston between 9 p.m. to 7 p.m. [9 a.
m. on Sundays]," and that he risked a fine if there were more complaints. The word "wind chimes" was handwritten on the notice to make the point.

Um, OK. So you are allowed to make all the noise you want, as long as it's between 7pm and 9pm (except on Sundays, when it's 9am to 9pm)

WTF?

...and what happens when a Mosque moves into town and starts blasting a call to prayers 5 times a day?

2006-07-12 06:50:46 PM
Things to do to replace windchime:

Become a foster home to cats in heat. Just bring it over, and we will store it in the nice pen in the backyard, to cry allllll night long

Invest in a REALLLY noisy bird. Kind of a catch and release program "damn if I know where it came from, it isn't mine"

BULLFROGS - they are loud, noisy, and are a great addition to any neighbor

Pygmie goats - damn things are loud and smell horrible

Invite local 2nd graders to host recorder concerts at 8pm each night, be sure to encourage them to pick songs that will stick in neighbor's head!

//just a few ideas!

Or the next morning? Seriously, unless you want the cops showing up at the next party you throw, maybe be a little more understanding, and talk to people.

If your neighbor tell you to blow it out your ass, then, yah, go nuts.

Der Poopflinger:

Or you could try this nutty idea called waiting until the next day. Nobody puts up chimes for one night only.

If you live in a house in the middle of nowhere with no neighbors for a mile then fine. But if you are in an apartment and hang your noisy wind chimes on your balcony just 5 feet above my window were gonna have a problem. Sleep is kinda important.

this is as bad as setting off fireworks at 1:00 A.M., mowing your lawn at 7:00 A.M., screaming on the cell phone, having a loud ass ring tone that sucks on your cell phone, doing that obnoxious cell phone laugh (i.e. HAW HAW HAW HAW)
seriously, have some farking curtousey you losers. believe it or not there ARE other people(gasp!).

Infringing upon the rights of Americans can't be justified because a city can't control their crime.
