Pigeons are flying rats. Don't feed them. I'm sure this has been covered before.

Oooh, I see. The "(not)" really turns the whole thing on its head. Intriguing.

Good thing the British police aren't armed, I guess.

I feel jail time would've been more appropriate.

At least there is a good reason for it. The woman next door feeds stray cats and now there's a rather large community hanging around. (Or as I prefer to call it, a 'target rich' environment).

The 'welfare state' mentality is also observed in the animal kingdom.

Meanwhile, some hooligans tipped over a dustbin in shaftsbury and got away scot-free!

Agreed, if you still haven't got the message then a fine should help clear that one up. I'd be a bit annoyed if my neighbour was feeding pigeons which resulted in much crappage over my house.

Pigeons are disgusting and encouraging them by feeding them *should* be strongly frowned upon. Give the batty old dear cleaning supplies and make her go and scrape bird shiat off statues or something.

Hehe nice one.

Make sure you don't corner said hooligan, or he might turn into a scalliwag.

They told her she had broken litter laws and demanded her name and address. The 81-year-old widow was gobsmacked when she got a £50 fine in the post and was warned she could have been hit with a £2,000 penalty.

HA! HA!
I'm gobsmacked for
feeding pigeons!1!oneone!

Spokesman Brian Grocock said: "Dropping food waste, even if to feed pigeons, represents a real health risk. It attracts rats."

Isn't that redundant?

In our building here in Vancouver, BC, we've had a few elderly people get sick from pigeons. Bacteria.

When I'm walking around and I see elderly people putting seeds in the alley, I walk right up and shove them in the ground with my shoe, kick dirt on them, whatever.

You'd be amazed how many of these gerries don't say anything, but when they do, I tell them how gerries like them are getting sick because of droppings and that they're creating a health risk.

I have to BLEACH my balcony all the time. It's FARKing nuts.

If these people are feeling charitable and have free time to be helpful, I'd be more than happy to set up tours of the gerries where they can go to all of the buildings and use a long broom and some bleach to scrub droppings off of balconies.

No pity for this offender at all.

We have always been at war with Eastasia. Please report to the ministry of love for your reminder.

How can anyone here defend the city on this one?!? First of all, she was feeding them in a PUBLIC PARK, not from a shared residence like an apartment building. Believe it or not, this is where pigions ususally live, and ususally eat the garbage of REAL litterers.

If the city had this much of a problem with people feeding crums to birds, put up a sign telling people not to, since everywhere else in the world no one has a problem with such a thing. At most give her a warning, and if she continues doing it then ticket her.

Now that this has hit the media, hopefully the mayor will fire this power hungry dumbasses and they can go back to mall security where they belong.

What a bastard! You'll be old someday and when some young git shoves you in the ground with their shoe and kicks dirt over you, you'll be sorry!

Living in a place where pigeons roost all over the block, and in the stairwell and crap all over the balcony, I can honestly say that anyone who consistently and deliberately provides food for these rats of the sky deserves a hefty fine.

I am in favour of lobbying the council to hire a falcon to sit on top of our block of flats. That would keep the buggers off.

Cite that nowhere else has a problem with pigeons? And she was fined under real laws, not ones they pulled out of their arse. Which country is it you live in that you expect a sign telling you about every law, just so your common sense isn't necessary?

And I'm pretty sure the natural habitat of pigeons isn't inner-city parks, anyway...
