"Under magnification, they seem to have some sort of molecular structure," she said.

As opposed to....?

2002-06-21 10:22:54 AM
As opposed to no molecular structure, which would make them very hard to magnify.

2002-06-21 10:23:28 AM
"Ten for a buck."

Ah, America at work!

2002-06-21 10:23:41 AM
You'd think by now that some REAL scientists could have looked at them.

2002-06-21 10:23:58 AM
Asteroid droppings?

2002-06-21 10:24:11 AM
that's one hell of a good magnifier...

Unless she meant 'cellular structure.'

2002-06-21 10:24:38 AM
They used to call me "mysterious balls" in school.

2002-06-21 10:25:11 AM
No molecular structure would mean a pure substance.

2002-06-21 10:25:17 AM
About Farking time they show a picture....

2002-06-21 10:25:34 AM

Looks alot like fresh horse crap.

I resent that comment

Well, at least we know they aren't Organians...

As opposed to being solid metal. A bar of, say, pure gold, is just that. Au and nothing else. Just atoms clinging together- no molecules.

It did sound really stupid, though.

"Under magnification, they seem to have some sort of molecular structure," she said.

Well I should hope so.

"Seals won't eat it,

They tried feeding it to seals? Interesting method, I must admit.

But some fish are dumb and will eat anything.

I think that's a very mean and derogatory comment. I'm calling PETA...

"I don't know if they're animal or mineral or what," the woman said after walking her dog along the sand.

Yeah, that's because yer a fcuking moron. Could we get a quote from some one a little smarter please?

2002-06-21 10:30:30 AM
That is nothing but elephant dung.

Ionozacuzo

No molecular structure would mean a pure substance.

Problem is, nothing can exist in nature without bonding to something (except under extreme circumstances), even if it's just with itself. And bonding with itself counts as a molecular structure too.

I think what we are seeing her is the start of the great Kiwi revolt.

HPZ: That's still a molecular structure. It just isn't a comlicated one.

2002-06-21 10:33:35 AM
I bond with myself on a regular basis.

2002-06-21 10:33:52 AM
Poop.
Definitely poop.
Seals won't eat poop.
But locals will gather it as a souvenier.

2002-06-21 10:34:25 AM
Wow, she has one hell of a microscope if she can see molecules.

2002-06-21 10:35:24 AM
Oh, god, this is Hampton Beach? That place is like the Jersey Shore, only a lot colder and +4 seedier.

I remember going there with my camp (Moosilauke, up in Orford, NH) and getting fireworks. :D

"Seals won't eat it, they use their sense of smell and it doesn't smell fishy."

arrrr arrrr arrrr arrr !!!!

Huge, farking dingle-berries.

"I don't know if they're animal or mineral or what,"

Mani, that last one sure is hard to think of. I think it's vig... veg... vagina! That's how it goes! animal, mineral, or vagina. That sure is hard to get right.

New Hampshire has a shore? Poop's up!

2002-06-21 10:37:53 AM
"Marine Program scientists at the University of New Hampshire were contacted, but said they would have a hard time identifying the material without seeing it."

Translated:

"What the fark do you mean? Little green balls? Where?"
...
"Oh, a few hundred miles away... ah, let me check my long range vision. stupid excuse for a reporter"

Doesn't molecular imply something that is covalently bonded?

Salt doesn't have molecules, just ions...

2002-06-21 10:40:09 AM
Golf balls. People hit golf balls into the ocean, they get encrusted and covered in plant-life, and wash up on shore. Open one up, I guarantee there's a Titleist in there.

Nope, Both covalent and ionic bonds make molecules. Salt has a molecular structure.

did they cut the things open and make sure there wasnt a biological weapon type things in the middle. Because if thousands of these things just washed ashore, makes me thinks its not normal. Especially since all the clowns they interviewed are perplexed.

2002-06-21 10:43:10 AM
Maybe they are hemp balls? Wouldn't that be a sweet score...

2002-06-21 10:44:55 AM
They're Sununu droppings.

2002-06-21 10:45:17 AM
Mysterious balls, you say...

2002-06-21 10:45:35 AM
did it occur to anyone to cut one open? that would clear it all up...

2002-06-21 10:46:17 AM
HEMP BALLS? You ever corner a hemp and try to cut off his balls? Whew!

2002-06-21 10:46:28 AM
I bet you'll see those things on eBay.. :) In a few days.

2002-06-21 10:48:10 AM
I want mysterious balls to wash up on my shore. I'd be down there right now, gathering them up.

2002-06-21 10:50:49 AM
they are called steel wool ASSHATS

2002-06-21 10:50:54 AM
Old dunkin-doughnuts?

2002-06-21 10:52:32 AM
These, obviously, are hair balls from cat fish.

2002-06-21 10:52:45 AM
Was Woody Harrelson in the vicinity?

2002-06-21 10:52:47 AM
Molecules are made up of two or more atoms, either of the same element or of two or more different elements, joined by one or more covalent chemical bonds.
