Speaking of Carfax...I'm curious as to what a Carfax report on my old Oldsmobile would look like. That thing was in such bad shape that, last year, I ended up just *giving* it to a junk yard.

Same with my old Buick Century (1988...195k miles) ... except it's not my old car, it's my current car....

Should have donated it to a fire department. They use them for auto fire training.

If this was a statement from Russia or China or North Korea normal people would think it to be garbage, lies, obvious BS.

America is the most free and open nation in the history of humanity.

16 million miles, mostly highway. May not pass California emission test.

Not while the kids in the midwest are still outside with their helmets and catchers mitts

PC LOAD LETTER: Should have donated it to a fire department. They use them for auto fire training.

DAMN DAMN DAMN. You're right.

I would have loved to watch that thing burn.

2006-07-05 10:05:46 PM
Meh, not that a Carfax report is conclusive. I bought a Toyota Avalon with a clean Carfax report, but all that proved was that the repairs done to the driver's side door were done without reporting it to insurance. I'm positive the dealer knew what happened, but because I didn't actually ask the question "To your knowledge has there been any body damage to this car?" they didn't tell me.

Fracking Darcars.

2006-07-05 10:13:12 PM
salvage title?

2006-07-05 10:13:27 PM
Carfax is pretty useless. Only has on file what has been reported to the dmv.

2006-07-05 10:14:01 PM
Lame headline and shame on you for lauging, I bet the ones that laugh found louie anderson funny on family fued.

I just spent WAY too long coming up with this.

Potential Discover VIN. (Using the actual VIN breakdowns, with some creative interpretation)

Go for it fark geeks.. Break it down.

While they're at it, they should check the bluebook value for a 4 million pound 1970's vehicle with horrendous fuel economy.

2006-07-05 10:43:16 PM
Dude, Fark CARFAX! One time I totally counted on them and then my '76 Chevrolet Nova totally blew up during re-entry.

2006-07-05 10:43:53 PM
Carfax is pretty useless. Only has on file what has been reported to the dmv.

Is that it? I was wondering where they got their info. It's not like I call them up to tell them, or that repair shops tell them. The only two other possible sources are the DMV and the insurance companies.

2006-07-05 10:44:09 PM
Mor Beal is correct. I bought a used car with a clean carfax record last year. I asked my brother (who has been painting and rebuilding cars for 20 years now) to see if he could get me some touch up paint, so he goes over and opens the car door looking for some code, and immediately notes that the car has been in an accident since the door is aftermarket. He pops the hood and says the hood is aftermarket as well, car has most likely been in a front end crash.

Carfax seems like a scam, overall...the used car dealers who offer "free Carfax report" are almost banking on it coming up clean.

I have a bad feeling that when I do get a new car, that will happen.

What's the VIN # for discovery?

OV-103

Shadow Blasko

1XNV103ZFK000003

"N" at #2 for manufacturer (NASA)
"O" at the 3rd spot for Vehicle Type = Orbiter.
And a "1" at the 11th spot for assembly plant.

I bet once it's in orbit the fuel economy is pretty kick ass

We saw the Shuttle fly over last night. We had just shot our load of fireworks and one of the kids said look at that star moving.

Across the sky, a light was quickly, but not like a shoot star, moving across the sky. We watched it for a minute or so until the sun's glare diminished as the Shuttle got close to the horizon.

It was a pretty good end of a July 4th celebration.

/We're near Charleston, SC. I think it was going kinda west to east.
