sweet!

2006-07-03 10:05:39 PM
Let me get my broom, because I am calling shinnanigans.

Look at video 3, He holds the ball infront of his face and you actually see behind him. This is nothing but some kids playing with a green screen.

2006-07-03 10:15:15 PM
Vid three - Ball Object doesnt show his face but shows the sign behind it?

???

2006-07-03 10:17:19 PM
I also call shenanigans. It was believeable until the kid with the ball in the 3rd video. If it was nano technology bending the light, you would have seen his head behind the ball, not the words.

2006-07-03 10:34:33 PM
If it's Japanese, we can kill it.

2006-07-03 10:36:06 PM
This got debunked a long time ago. It is green or blue screen stuff. Like when the weatherman wears the wrong color suit and you can see through him.

2006-07-03 10:36:35 PM
This is teh stupid.

2006-07-03 10:37:13 PM
I don't think you are supposed to be able to see his face. If you wanted to see his face, just use a piece of glass =p The thing hes holding is bending the light so we see whats behind his head

2006-07-03 10:37:47 PM
This is really, really old news.

Still cool, though.

2006-07-03 10:37:58 PM
Call shenanigans all you want, this has been in the news for a couple of years. It's the real thing.

The first application for this is going to be vehicle based. Imagine planes and tanks that you can't see and can't detect. You're farked.

2006-07-03 10:38:51 PM
Here's a picture of me in my invisible cloak:
/cool, huh?

2006-07-03 10:39:15 PM
No really this works with any trenchcoat and the girls' locker room. Trust me farkers!

2006-07-03 10:40:52 PM
This isn't bluescreen/greenscreen stuff, IIRC: I believe they simply have a projector project the background image onto the actor. Its really not hard, and isn't very impressive. It looks good, but its not very useful.

Predator tested.

This video is a blue screen illusion nothing else. However it is not exactly an hoax. This video was produced by a legit group who is indeed working on technologies to make an invisibility clock This video was only part of a presentation aimed at showing what is the kind of goal they would like to achieve. It's simply used out of context.

2006-07-03 10:42:17 PM
The second one looked like the TV in the background was 100% projected. Weak.

2006-07-03 10:44:20 PM
None of that was bending the light, but did any of the videos claim it was? I think only the blog in the link did, which was stupid.

2006-07-03 10:45:31 PM
Whew, I was worried for a second. I thought the headline said, "The invisible c.cks in action". I did not want to have to wear a reversible chastity belt.

2006-07-03 10:47:04 PM

No more speeding tickets! :)

I don't know if it's real or fake, but I do know this - the dude in the 2nd vid dances like a weirdo.

Smeggy Smurf,

My name is Danjuma Sule, one of the sons of major Gen Gumel Danjuma Sule, The late Nigeria's former minister of mines and power in the regime of the late former Nigeria's military Head of state, Gen Sanni Abacha.

He married my mother on the agreement that my mother,Amina Fausat Sule, will maintain her family's name together with her children. Before he died in the German hospital on the 15th of November 1988 where he went to operate on the cancer of the knee, he fixed the Sum of $30,000.000.00 in the Central Bank of Nigeria under Intartrade Ventures Ltd on behalf of my mother. The 3 yrs maturity period placed on the money is due but the problem we are having now is that we lost the whole of the documents as a result of fire, which gutted our house 3 months ago.

We have discussed with our family attorney on how to collect the money with out hitches, he advised us to liaise with a foreigner who will act as the foreign partner of Intartrade Ventures Ltd and will purport that The money in question is urgently needed overseas for an important project.

It is on this basis I am seeking for assistance. Your percentage is negotiable. Please note; your age and profession doesn't really matter in this transaction. Waiting for your immediate response.

Regards,
Prince Potimus

And how do they know where I live and put nearby places in the girlie ads??

Is Ceiling Cat watching me?

2006-07-03 10:53:05 PM
c'mon guys, so some research!

Tachi's "invisibility" coat is a camera trick.

A video camera behind the coat is linked to a projector, which bounces the image off the front of the coat's reflective surface. Because there is no time lag between what's happening behind the wearer and the image cast on the front of the coat, the viewer has the illusion he is seeing straight through the coat.

... and yes i realize that's why most of us are here. Collectively, we make one lazy ass group.

Sorry Mugato I forgot "Ace & Gary" from the Ambigulously Gay Duo were your favorite superheroes.

Just don't forget where you parked it.

2006-07-03 10:53:44 PM
This farking old. I think Wired ran through this about 5 years ago. Same demo even.

2006-07-03 10:54:17 PM
Check your luminescence people. Notice how the ball is very bright, almost as if someone were shining a bright light on it? They are.

This application is achieved with a projector that tracks the position of the ball. The projector is loaded with a still image of the wall behind the person (which is why you don't see the person's face).

2006-07-03 11:01:30 PM
ZOMG shenanigans.
So, it bends the light using magic fairy dust or whatever - but how come you see the wall behind the guys head, but not his head? Is he a vampire or something? Either it's fake or he's a vampire that wants to suhk your bludd...

2006-07-03 11:02:46 PM
Guys, this has already been discussed here before. In detail. It's a front projection system that uses a camera to see around the target. It's not something you can slap on your car and drive around town.

This is not a cloak of invisibility, it is a wearable projection screen.

/unlike mine
//I'm standing in front of you

It might be a wearable projection screen; but if it were, the ball should have shown the dude's head.

Actually, most everyone in this thread is wrong.

This does indeed technically work. It is not blue screen, it is not projection.

Rather, there is a video camera set up behind the person / thing, recording the background. This then goes to a computer, which calculates the images based on the angle of the recording video camera (what you see on your screen).

THe problem with this technology is that if you try to view the material from any POV besides that of the camera is calculating, you just see a blank grey fabric.

Very cool technology...lots of potential.

(everything i said is directly from either howstuffworks, or that site that reseraches myths, totally forget where though)

Hey, folks, just realize: the boffins behind the latest announcements regarding this wave-ray camoflauge technology didn't make a jacket, or a wall, or even a test device. They worked out the math and physics and determined that it is indeed POSSIBLE to do wave-ray bending in this fashion.

Right now all the research is on to discover/invent this mathematically-possible meta-material.

now that's a great use of technology.

Hurt it? Or make it better?

"The first method involves using a camera behind the cloak which projects the video onto the front of it, sort of like a wearable projector screen. The second technique uses nanotechnology to bend light behind the cloak in essence enabling the cloak to become invisible or see through. Below are links to the videos."

All of the videos are of the first method which lame and in no way "invisibility." The second method does not exist yet, and probably never will.

This would make a game of peek-a-boo terrifying, instead of annoying.

voodooRay

I can say without hyperbole that what's shown in that link is a million billion times more clever than the crappy and old projection deal in the submitted link.
