She does look like she's making a run for the left side of the bell curve.

iamrobot: everyone is saying that there is a healthy median between posh beckham and one of those wal-mart muumuu beasts. i think that's whack. what has she done to earn a place on the end of the bell curve? her weight doesn't really endanger her health and i doubt she has any mental issues harder to deal with than being a 600 lb slug. Donnie Darko's girl is the one who needs help, not her.

I think these would be the healthy medium:

Apart from osteoporisis, amhenorrhia (no periods), hair loss, tooth decay, heart problems, and more, no, not at all. Perfectly healthy.

Just because walmart heifers are also killing themselves and are gross to look at does not mean she's suddenly magically ok, any more than the existance of 600 pound landwhales means that the person with 40 extra pounds is suddenly more attractive. It doesn't work like that. And I reiterate, if you find a girl with no muscle tone, tiny spindly legs, and zero breasts or hips attractive, you are at the least waaay out of the norm for male heterosexuality, and at worst should seek employment with the Catholic Church.

no, just in photos, it is much easier to tell is someone is overweight when they have tight clothes on.

seriously..i live overseas. when i go back to the staes and look at americans....it is disgusting. VERY few adults are within a healthly weight range.

i think you ave gotten used to overweight people. to me, they stick out like a sore thumb.

I am sick of seeing those 100+ lb. porkers.

Some organs are vestigial, ladies.
I bet losing that appendix may jut be that winning move!

(For god's sake, don't really do this my mentally disturbed sisters.)

P.B. has no thighs, people. Disturbing.

I have known girls who were that skinny naturally, but they still make me want to feed them cheesecake or something. No wonder they're always cold!

Nope, no pics in my profile (like a lot of you male Farkers). I am currently 5'5" and 140lb; throughout my 20's & early 30's, 125lb. My husband was scared to death when I went down to 112lb after a bout of pneumonia, and it took 1.5 years to get back to 125.

It is disgusting, I agree. But she's not in a healthy weight range either. That's why they call it a range, y'know, because there's limits on both sides. Otherwise it'd just be a healthy weight limit.

Women are always going to get shiat no matter what they do, because unless they are beautiful (and not everyone is), they are always going to look too fat or too thin in some way.

At an average and healthy weight I'm still ass-ugly and misshapen, so I have the option of becoming very thin and looking like a 12 year old boy, or gaining enough weight to develop breasts and still looking like a bumpy log.

Life sucks for some people.

Can't speak to the hittability of Ms. Pish-Posh but there *IS* such a thing as a golden mean when it comes to body size. The 600-lb-plus ones are just as unhealthy as the matchstick-legged creatures.

Having dated a nutjob anorexic/bulemic for several years in college, I find it fascinating how deluded these people are into thinking that someone would find that appealing. It is also fascinating how much money they pay their therapists to convince them that it is not their fault.

You dated her for several years? Are you just bitter that the shrink convinced her to dump you and start treating herself better?

2006-06-28 12:44:02 PM
These people aren't life threatening thin because they feel like it, they are mentally sick. Most don't even know it which is the scary part. But hey, at least they aren't fat.

Sorry, couldn't resist the joke.

Donnie Darko: DIAF.

I like my women trim and health. She's too trim and I doubt she's very health. Pity, really. Why must hot celebrities become so damn anti-hot?

Clearly every straight man falls into one of the Spice Girls categories:

Posh: Men who expect too much from their women.
Baby: Pedophiles.
Sporty: Men who appreciate women for their personality rather than looks.
Scary: Masochists.
Ginger: Redheads

Count me a Geri Halliwell fan. I think I still have a poster from her solo record around here somewhere...

I'd hit it - with a sammich. I prefer girls whose beautiful things sticking out of their chest aren't bones.

Donnie Darko: you're an evil fark.
runchkin: two mind-numbing horrors don't make a right.
Ant: ahhh... Much, much better.

Just for the information of the ladies in the crowd, Ant's is more-or-less what the vast majority of guys like. Based on my surveys (informal, but N > 20), 90% or more of guys find the ultra-skinny look distinctly unappealing. Some nice middle-ground between "twig" and "whale" isn't too much to ask, is it?...

But I bet you're running around with some serious 10" biceps, so I guess I can't beat that.

it'd be nice, but it's not in the cards for me. i'm framed all wrong to look like a member of the locust, the best i could do would we a young paul newman. i do work out at least 3 days a week for at least 2 hrs at a time, i stay away from processed sugars as much as possible and have a pretty good grasp of nutrition. i don't have a perfect body but i do put in the effort.

i don't hate people who look the way i want to, i just envy them a little and try to take it as inspiration. that's what normal, well adjusted and slightly narcissistic people do. when you rail on people who are ON THE COVER OF MAGAZINES for being ugly and unhealthy you are doing one of two things.

1. trying to justify your own looks that you are not satisfied with.
2. trying to appear sensitive and in touch with people doing #1.

If she is a runner, then she'd have long, lean muscles. Especially in the thighs. Ms. Beckhman, doesn't seem to be into running, though I could be wrong.

Those are all problems that can be caused as a result of anorexia, not personal diagnoses of a celebrity i've never met. Way to read into things.

And, not knowing your girlfriend, I have zero opinion of her. I wouldn't want to look like her, but that's just personal preference. However, Posh was not always unhealthy looking, and appears to be getting worse, which is what this whole thing is about, and has no bearing on the

You guys are also neglecting the fact tht not everyone has the capacity to be curvy. There are definitely skinny-built people. Not every woman can gain 10 lbs and have it go straight to her boobs and arse. Instead they get a potbelly. Which is not attractive!

Although obviously this is not the case with her.

I agree with stiletto_the_wise in that chicks will call any girl who is thinner than they are "anorexic" just to make themselves feel better.

It might be that she is just naturally petite. She doesn't look any thinner now than she did when she was a Spice Girl. Some women are just built that size.

My wife is 5'4" and a natural 105lbs. She eats everything she wants and goes to the gym maybe once a week. She has people tell her all the time that she is "too thin" but that is just her natural size...

2006-06-28 12:58:19 PM
why is this such a problem to you

it's not, i realize that there are some that have destroyed themselves physically chasing after a disgusting ideal that appeals only to them. it's the automatic assumption that everyone very thin has this problem. my girlfriend eats almost literally twice as much as i do, but we have very opposed body chemistry. there is no huge societal problem with people being too thin, i don't understand the level of public outrage about it. especially considering the obesity epidemic we are living through and the healthcare implications it presents.

So here's the mission statement from one of those pro-anorexia websites: to cause changes to occur in body in conformity to will. Aside from that being lifted almost verbatim from Aleister Crowley's Magick in Theory and Practice, it shows there's more to anorexia than simply trying to look good.

Now, I'm no psychologist, but from my limited understanding of anorexia there's more to it that just trying to look thin or conform to what they think men think is attractive. Appealing to the opposite sex is less important than appealing to themselves. They want to be in control of themselves, so they starve themselves to prove they have so much control they can resist all the hunger pangs, fatigue, dizzy spells, spontaneous cracking in half etc. The body is seen as an object to be dominated, not as a fundamental part of the self. The self is identified as the will and is utterly divorced from physical reality. Naturally such a schism is impossible to maintain without some detrimental effects, and looking at the walking skeletons above clearly shows the deleterious consequences of a failure to appreciate one's own body as an essential component of one's self. If you project it outwards and make it an Other, your consciousness retreats further and further. But the anxiety and terror which arise when it can find no non-physical basis erupt in even more austere mortifications.

Catherine of Siena exhibited many of the symptoms of anorexia, as document by Rudolph Bell in Holy Anorexia, but not from a desire to meet beauty standards. Instead, at least according to Bell's thesis, anorexia was a manifestation of her desperate attempt to claim her body as her own especially in a society where women were marginalised.

Or if I'm completely crazy, feel free to correct me.

I see your point. The whole "fat acceptance" thing has gotten way out of hand. But then, look at it this way. We have a fat thread almost every day. The anorexia threads happen, what, once a month at most? The few girls who are naturally extremely thin will get annoyed, rightfully, just as the (very) few people who are legitimately fat through no fault of their own will get mad at the fat threads. Both are pointless, since the sentiments in the thread aren't directed at them.

And I betcha ten bucks that Posh is not naturally thin. She's most likely a coke addict.
