It's actually a typo.
It should be $8.80.
Forgot the decimal.

There's a pub where I hang out, and it is possible to make a bet with a gentleman there outside of the local gaming laws. When this World Cup started, he started taking soccer bets, since people were interested. The local guys, used to betting on baseball, understood money lines. What completely bamboozled them was that in a soccer match there are three possible outcomes, all with a separate money line. They were under the impression that a tie counted as a push, and they would only lose the vig on a tie. Couple of guys lost a few hundred that way before they figured it out.

The good part is that you saw hard-bitten American sports fans actually cheering for soccer teams, cursing referees, and generally getting into the game a lot more when they had some money riding on it.

monster87: Is this a real article?

It's satire. But thanks for playing.

OK, we get it, Americans don't like football. In fact, it turns out lots of people from lots of places don't like lots of sports.

Not quite sure why exactly some feel the need to say "Look at us! We don't like the things that you like!". Smacks of arrogance.

I know, I know, its only one article, but there is another (marginally funnier) one here (no pops) and they are starting to grate me slightly.

Someone needs to tell the author that it hasn't been the World Wrestling Federation (or WWF) since 2002.

Yes, I know it's satire. But still.
