Why should I be interested in the navy of some country I've never heard of?

CANADIAN MILITARY ON HIGH ALERT...
As in the case of those pesky North Koreans, the U.S. may or may not decide to shoot this torpedo down.

If Canada was a browner country, they'd be accused of making the torpedo accessable to terrorists.

I say glass-err, Ice parking lot.

Don't worry, as you might expect, according to the article Canadian torpedos contain no explosives.

"HMCS Vancouver fired the dummy weapon just off the entrance to Esquimalt Harbour..."

Great. Farking great. Where do I work? The entrance to Esquimalt Harbour. I fully expect to see this damn thing washed up on Monday morning.

Fort Rodd Hill.

(Bonus groovy 3D rendering of our site: Sort of jumps right out at you!.)

Reminds me of the time about 15 years ago that a visitor to the site came up and told me there was a "bomb" on the beach; thinking it was just another naval flare (which could still be dangerous), I asked him to describe it. It was about ten sticks of dynamite with wires and stuff.

Call to naval EOD ensues. Turns out that they were holding a mock terrorism exercise, with dummy demolition charges to be hidden around the dockyard. This one apparently fell off and floated up on our beach. Someone had neglected to put the word "intert" in large, friendly letters anywhere on the thing. Buttheads.

Weirdest thing I ever found on our beach: human ashes, in a plastic bag, inside a wooden box. Moral: if you're burying Mom at sea, poke a few holes in first.

What else is new?

RIDICULOUSLY PATHETIC JOKE:

When the US was set to invade Iraq, Canada promised to send three brigades of soldiers, two carrier battle groups, and half it's Air Force to back us up.

After the exchange rate was calculated, we got two Mounties, a canoe, and a paper airplane.

oh those wacky canadians...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tybee_Bomb

The Tybee Bomb is a 7,600 pound (3,500 kg) Mark 15, Mod 0 hydrogen bomb that was lost in the waters off Savannah, Georgia on February 5, 1958. The bomb was jettisoned during a practice exercise after a B-47 bomber carrying it collided in midair with an F-86 fighter plane. It is presumed lost somewhere in Wassaw Sound off the shores of Tybee Island. The bomb is one of eleven known missing nuclear weapons from the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

I'm sure it will be found a half hour later in Newfoundland.

2006-06-24 06:21:59 PM
I guess if it washes ashore, that would mean it was floating? Was it a wooden torpedo?

the canadian national defense establishment consists of a hot line to the pentagon and a large supply of depends. whenever it look like trouble, the canadians shiat their pants and call the americans. (much like the rest of the free world)

The Canadian Army Artillery has what is known as a RAP Round.

It's true, Canada has an Army.

Anyway, they fire the round, and it politely knocks at your door.

Public knowlege (if you read my link you would know that) of the lost and recovered weapons is not classified information.
