Wow, an article regarding Ithaca on my birthday, no less. Whoo!

Trust me, there's absolutely NOTHING else to crow about in Ithaca. Directions there : Go to the middle of nowhere, take a left, and go another couple of hours. When you see a place that looks like the town in Deliverance, you're getting close.

huh? When did you last go there? When I lived there I didn't notice that at all.

Lived three years in Ithaca. robmilmel is talking out of his ass. There is more in Ithaca than in SLC, where you are now (not that that's saying much).

Lovely little town. Wish I could go back.

Obligatory for those who went to college in Ithaca:

High above Cayuga's waters, there's a fountain on knowledge
Some say its Ezra's creation, we say it's Ithaca College

/Columbia Marching Band
//Wife's side of the family is lousy with Cornellians and Ithaca Collegians.
///Big Red Band can suck it.

My band Wicked Lester played Ithaca once back in 1971. Me and my friend Stanley Eisen almost wiped that town right off the map.

Officials on both sides said it isn't clear yet how these "sundae wars" will play out.

There are officials for this?

Don't you know what Odysseus said about Ithaca? He said it was a good place for raising sons. Now THAT's a back handed compliment for you.

Go Wisconsin! Fark them Cornellians!

I had to drive out to Ithaca college for a job interview. 3 hours of bust up farm houses and empty fields. Deliverance is the perfect word for it. I drove past a house that had advertised llama rides. Once you are right on top of the college though, there's a nice little college town there. I think it has more to do with cornell than Ithaca.

That's funny, I live in Ithaca, and I've never heard a peep about any of this nonsense. This smells fishy to me...

No, definately T'Rivers...Only one endorsed by the National Register of Deeds.

/doesn't actually care
//just pulling for Wisconsin

2006-06-23 05:29:22 PM
Fark Ithaca. T'rivers is where it's at. The sundae place there is pretty cool, and plays up the whole thing as a marketing ploy pretty well. Apparently they're broadening their audience. But they do make a kick-ass sundae, and Ithaca can shuck it.

2006-06-23 05:35:52 PM
According to the post of sundaes at Wikipedia, there are many other places that claim to have invented the sundae, including my hometown of Plainfield, Illinois. So I always heard since I was a young kid that that is where they came from. Weird thing is the story seems to be pretty close to other sundae creation stories. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sundae

2006-06-23 05:41:29 PM
From what I've found, the origina of the name if not the thing itself traces to Evanston, Illinois. Why Sundae? Because a morals law prevented the sale of ice cream on Sunday. So an enterprising ice cream vendor got creative.

2006-06-23 05:41:56 PM

I was in Ithaca just a few weeks ago. Whatever great mind may have invented the sundae, they've been overrun by a lot of this:

To be honest, I haven't seen Ithaca since the very early 80's. But outside of the college, there ain't much else to say about it. Except perhaps the Ice Cream Subdaes.
Not that my hometown (which I haven't seen in 25 years)of Rome was any better.

2006-06-23 06:21:09 PM
Ithaca definately has a lot of hippies. Not looking forward to that part of the city. Ithaca was named "The most enlightened town in America". Elitism like that makes me want to gag.

I have been to Two Rivers and eaten their Sundaes. I shall test Ithaca's and submit myself as the official judge.

/going to Cornell for grad school

It wasn't the ice cream that was thought immoral...it was the soda in the ice cream soda. For some reason it was thought that a carbonated beverage was a sin on Sunday.
So, replace the soda with whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry...and voila!

An "issue" between a city in NY state and a town in Wisconsin, reported by a news affiliate in Sacramento, California. WTF?

Agreed.

Although I have to say that pic posted by Macthulhu is really making me laugh a lot.

I enjoy seeing the guy in obvious distress. Extra points that he's a hippie. And more points awarded because it's not me. Hee hee.

I think the real debate should be which town is more decrepit and boring. I vote for Two Rivers.

I love Ithaca (grew up in Trumansburg, went to college at IC and lived there until I was 30) but it's too damn cold in the winter. I got so tired of seeing a little bit of gray anemic sun on the way to work, then getting off work at 5:30 and the sun was already down.

If you like fall colors, go for a drive along rt. 79 North of Ithaca on the west side of Cayuga Lake. Beautiful rolling hills covered with red, orange, and yellow...

What makes that photo fun, is the fact that he's not in distress... He's dancing! I also like the fact that the guy behind him looks like Dr. Zaius from Planet of the Apes. Let me also add that it was raining that day, and we were treated to the pummeling stench of wet hippies and savage body odor.

I guess the good citizens of The People's Democratic Republic of Ithaca have given up on the fight for democracy in Burma and the impeachment of George W. Bush to deal with more pressing matters.

I like Ithaca. I lived downtown this past year (I'm a Cornellian), and there are definitely some nuts around, but it's also a hip little place. I also live 50 miles away from Two Rivers (being a native Wisconsinite), and I love it here too. Didn't know about the ice cream sundae thing, for either place.

No, submitter - there really are no more pressing issues in Ithaca, NY or Two Rivers, WI.
