The Berks County coroner's office ruled the death an accident inevitable.

Fixed it.

I'm surprised this isn't a more regular occurance. We have phone lines getting stolen all over Greater Vancouver. The metal recylclers are paying so much for copper now that memorial markers are being stolen from cemetaries.

a Homeless douchebag stole the gutters from the building I work at. Luckily the police caught the guy. I guess wheeling a shopping cart full of building parts downtown is a little suspicious.

2006-06-21 01:26:40 PM
Are pennies still made of copper?

2006-06-21 01:28:29 PM
Electrifying!

2006-06-21 01:29:13 PM
1982 - The rising price of copper finally took its toll on the Lincoln cent in 1982. The composition in 1982 was changed to an alloy of 99.2 percent zinc and 0.8 percent copper, plated by pure copper - making the total composition 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper.

I guess I found the answer myself. Sorry to be so lazy.

Not just phone lines, but entire phone booths!! Each booth costs TELUS about $2000 to deploy, yet the salvage is only about $50. Go figure.

I work in the construction industry..some of you

No seriously, this is becoming a huge problem right now, and on one of our projects which was a church, all the unistalled electrical wiring was stolen not once, but twice while the project was under construction.

Idiots are also stealing siding, gutters, downspouts, and any other thing that can easily be moved from the job site that is made from aluminum or copper.

I'm leaning towards the owned tag for this one....maybe there should be a "Self Owned" tag as well...

copper? Why not just use all those pennies that are EVERYWHERE

Because modern pennies are only copper-plated.

High voltage wires arent even copper, theyre zinc plated steel. Worth maybe $3 a ton?
The acrticle read "what he probably thought was copper wire".

Enough pennies can give you zinc poisoning if ingested. I jail inmate was hospitalized years back for this, his stomach was full of pennies. It takes a large amount vs. body weight to do it. I small dogs can get zinc poisoning from eating just a few pennies. Its hard to diagnose until you do an xray.

Great horny toads! This has happened about five times in recent days in West Virginia, with the predictable result.

Too bad "Darwin" can't be listed as a cause of death.

That's what I was thinking. Who cares whether Fark.com has a Darwin tag or not, the real issue is why coroners don't have a Darwin checkbox on their forms.

It's a good way to weed out all the low-lifes.They should run more high voltage lines and make signs that say 'copper here' with a arrow pointing up to the lines.

He should have boosted the power to the containment field and Reversed the Polarity of the Neutron Flow.

That always helps.

It's kind of cool that high voltage lines have their own built-in security system.

Too bad "Darwin" can't be listed as a cause of death.

Darwin should be a valid cause of death.. I bet we'd all be surprised (or not..) of how often that cause of death would be checked.

Or, maybe the cause of death should be "dumbass."

CAUSE OF DEATH:

[ ] Suicide
[ ] Accidental
[ ] Natural Causes
[ ] Undetermined

(sarcasm) Hmm, too bad the Sheisters are so active here. Else, maybe you could electrify all metal items with 100,000 volts to deter theft. X-D (/sarcasm)

Hmm.. self-kills used to get you negative frags in online FPSes. ;-)

If you get negative frags in real life, do you go to the -1st Circle of Hell? :-D
