All these sex offender laws would be just great if they only targeted the sick farks who get classified as "sex offenders". Or maybe if they created "tiers" of sex offenders based on their dangerousness.

Like, level one is you bonked your girlfriend when you were 19 and she was 17

Indeed. Or if you change in front of an open window, when your neighbours kids looked in.

/Not personal experience, just an example.

Or, when you realize that the tree you were peeing on walking through the park on your way home from the bar, really wasn't a tree.

Right. To quote someone much funnier than me:

"So, perjury, you know! If you commit perjury, I don't care, don't give a shiat. I don't think you should because you grade murder. You have murder one, murder two; you realize that there can be a difference in the level of murder, so there must be a difference in the level of perjury. Perjury one is when you're saying there's no Holocaust when 10 million people have died in it, and perjury... nine, is when you said you shagged someone when you didn't."

Or, like when you keep having sex with yourself..

Wait...

Or like that guy that almost hit a jaywalking little girl and restrained her by her arm for a couple minutes while lecturing her for running in the street.

Bad move, but didnt deserve to be called a sex offender for it...

or when you get caught on a busy playground with your pants down around your ankles and you've got a squirming male pig in your arms, but the only reason you've got a squirming male pig is because you couldn't find a docile female one... i just don't think i should be forced to tell my boss about that.

So, they are pretty much admitting these people are dangerous by saying they need to inform people of their status, but they aren't going to bother putting them in jail?

Nice.

Oh great, now they can't get jobs so we have to pay for their farking welfare too!

Brilliant!

2006-06-20 06:52:15 PM
You know, if we keep this up we'll just fire the sex offenders into the sun because there'll be no place on this or any other planet or satelite for them to go to. Or we could toss them into the Phantom Zone. That would be cool.

2006-06-20 06:52:28 PM
There should be no such thing as sex offender registration.

The logic behind it is that they are dangerous to society and thats why people need to know.

My question is: if they are a danger to society, why are they in society?

If a rapist goes to prison, does his time, he is only let out of prison because he is no longer a danger (or let out on parole). So if the govt thinks sex offenders are dangerous enought to warrant a registry, why are they even let out of prison in the first place?

/there is NO SUCH THING as a one-time sex offender
//and to make it clear, i am in no way talking about streakers or public urinators

"My question is: if they are a danger to society, why are they in society?"

Because our prisons are overcrowded with way too many people that have been busted on drug charges, and are no threat to anyone other than themselves. So, they've got to let the rapists and child molesters out so they can make room for more stoners.

This just gets more and more ridiculous. It's a horrible perversion but you know it's being used to score political points.

When the law is changed so that you can be guillotined for smiling at an infant in the street, will you be satisfied? And what will be the next offense to be capitalized upon?

It amazes me that people go along with this shiat out of fear. Take a step back.

2006-06-20 07:08:24 PM
When will the time come that people realize these people have paid their debts to society, and should be allowed to do their best to have normal lives afterwards? Treating them this way offers NO incentive for them to pick themselves back up and live their life like a normal person would -- because they can't.

And good point that they'll probably end up on welfare or homeless or using tons of tax-subsidized programs when they can't get a job, thanks to this law....

2006-06-20 07:12:58 PM
I'm not a big fan of sex offender registration but this seems like a pretty good idea to me. I don't think we need convicted pervs working with kids without anyone knowing.

Don't you have to state whether or not you're a convicted felon on any job application?

2006-06-20 07:19:59 PM
Employers already ask for felonies. This law would be like proposing a law that makes pi 3.1415~

2006-06-20 07:29:32 PM
Or, we could, I don't know, keep them in prison for a more reasonable period of time, and then when they're released... well, we could do something really novel, and treat them like freed citizens? I know, crazy talk, but either you're free, or you're not. This life-time sentence crap is a load of crap.

I saw the footage of the press conference last night, and it was simultaneously the most retarded and hilarious thing I've ever seen. Would've mage a great Fark PS contest: A couple of ratty Santas holding up signs that read, "I'm a Rapist" and "I Molest Kids."

2006-06-20 07:35:58 PM
This just sounds like a busybody law to me...

Most job applications (if not every one) I've ever seen has a question asking if you've been convicted of a felony. (Some variations ask "if ever" and some stipulate a certain time frame).

Most companys already do background checks on prospective employees.

If a person is a registered sex offender, it's already public information thanks to Megan's Law.

All this law seems to do, in effect, is protect the company's ass if they're too lazy to do their damned homework before hiring someone.

2006-06-20 07:37:33 PM
And since this is California, it would be illegal for the employer to discriminate based on that.

Really though, if the person is dangerous, they shouldn't be let outside. How about, instead of just locking them up and hoping the psychological problem will go away (and then releasing them), try to actually do something about it?

2006-06-20 07:43:25 PM
This will teach the bastards to interact normally in public.

Everyone knows sex offenders are best kept in a basement dungeon surfing myspace nekid and stuff.

Don't stick up for these pricks. I swear, everyone should be de-nutted on conviction. Worthless farks.

Oh yeah, sex offender for banging your 17 yr old GF when 19 shouldn't even be considered a crime. I am talkin about the real animals. You know the ones.

Disdainful
Obviously you dont have any children, that would change your way of thinking. Its hard enough to watch out for people that arnt registered sexual offenders, family, friends, neighbors, babysitters, children's friends, that could possibly hurt your babies, you think it would be good, if the ones that actually got caught for the offense that they committed, be completely void of any kind of flag saying so? Sexual offenders are the most likely to offend when they are released- bc of the fact that they usually just do a few years, nobody really cares to help them mentally, who cares- so I would like to frickin know , when someone has raped their children, or molested or stalked little kids at the local bus stop. So, you think its cool when a man rapes and destroys a little girl, or completely exstinguishes and forever changes a little boy life, that they be let to have a 'normal life', and not be registered or have any life long punishment, because they served a few years in prison?
They did their time, (which will not ever be long enough)
so they're fine?
Good call

2006-06-20 08:10:37 PM
Yes, sofarked , I guess I have to point it out also, or else people will jump on that point that I think is obvious, but for safetys sake, theres a difference with 17 - 19 year old situation, so anyone that disagrees with my post, please note that before you go rambling off.

2006-06-20 08:14:10 PM
I can't believe this isn't a law already. Sex offenders shouldn't be around kids. Any sex offender that wants a job around kids is bad news, he knows the risks involved. even "level one is you bonked your girlfriend when you were 19 and she was 17" type people should know better than to work around kids, cognitively disabled just because nobody would believe you if you were falsey accused. anyone who is willing to take this risk is probably a sicko.

2006-06-20 08:24:27 PM
Then: persecuting Jews
Now: persecuting sex offenders

I know it's a bad analogy.

2006-06-20 08:26:04 PM
If you think sex offenders don't get enough jail time, push for longer sentencing. But once they're out, they should be treated like citizens again, because they've served the sentence handed to them by the judge. They've already been punished to the extent that was deemed correct. Plus, you don't have to deal with the whole "banged his 2-years younger gf" business. Better 100 guilty men serve their time fairly than 1 innocent man suffer for the rest of his life.

Plus, statistically, children are far more likely to be molested by an acquaintance. The idea of this super sex-predator who'll molest your kid just because s/he's there is absurd and statistically insignificant.

Willie: Fornicate?

So, to summarize your position Milf4life, we should dispose of things like due process and our constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment because you're frightened?

I don't support sex offender registries. I support all-offender registries. I'm just as keen to know if the new guy in the neighborhood is a car thief or a burglar. Only registering sex offenders seems, I don't know, arbitrary. I think everyone needs to recieve the same treatment under the law.

You do the crime and you do the time. Great. After that you're a free person again. I think they should make all felons register and the database should be searchable online, but these happy-feelgood laws that require ex-cons to put a sign on their car or on their front door or to go around telling people what they did are cruel and unusual.

If you think they should be get longer prison you should write your state legislature and tell them what you would like to see, but once they're out, they're out. And they'll never reform if you keep kickin' 'em.

If they are pederasts, then jail them for the perscribed amount of time and get them some counseling. If the time is not enough then lengthen it. Once you are out, thats it, its over. If you truley want life in prison w/o parole then make it so but don't keep these people on the hook for ever because as we all know there are varying shades of grey with almost every crime and these are no exceptions.

(I am talking about statutory, streakers, flashers, fondelers, public pissers and even those who could possibly be accused (falsly?) of date rape) *I'm looking at you Duke Lacross*

/I believe the time should fit the crime
//The sexual predator information system is being abused
///Were all criminals
////You just havn't been cought yet
//You are also under no legal obligation to tell the truth to your employer about anything you have ever been convicted of or arrested for

"They've already been punished to the extent that was deemed correct."

17-year-old Suzie's dad thinks you should be jailed for life. He goes on and on about how you, sir, are a dirtbag and he wishes you to be pounded in the ass by Big Bubba in prison and contract hepatitis B and die. He, his family, and his lawyer are going to play it like you're a dangerous predator.

Congratulations. You just earned yourself 10 years in prison. But it was the extent deemed correct, right? Everyone HATES sex offenders. Even if all they did was have a drunken piss in the woods when a boyscout troop walked by, or played doctor when they were 4.

The very term sex offender makes it sound like their entire existance involves marching down the street and grabbing people's groins for fun and profit.

"I think they should make all felons register and the database should be searchable online, but these happy-feelgood laws that require ex-cons to put a sign on their car or on their front door or to go around telling people what they did are cruel and unusual."

And very dangerous. It invites vigilianteism. Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of pedophiles and rapists..but I have self-control. What about the guy that had his daughter raped? Think he's going to let you move in down the street? Maybe..until you put the sign up. Then you're going to have windows broken, your house set on fire, your tires slashed, etc, etc. In today's America, if you're labelled a sex offender, go ahead and kill yourself. There's no reprieve.
