In case you were somehow not aware, Drew is in Europe watching the games. In Rome today - watch for Farkparty threads and try to catch up with him if you can.

I just can't get into a game where, after a long time playing, the score ends up ZERO, ZERO and then a whole other game has to played again to decide the outcome. I respect the pain in the ass it is having to run up and down and up and down and up and down the field and the teamwork, but in the end, it's just plain boring.

Okay. Not knowing why I even bother to make predictions, but here goes:

Argentina 3 vs. Serbia and Montenegro 0
Netherlands 2 vs. Ivory Coast 1
Mexico 4 vs. Angola 0

/No faved teams in this bunch. GO SOMEBODY!

England played crap last night. Just got lucky at the end

I'm still recovering from England's nerve-racking performance yesterday.

What I don't get is all the hooliganism. People riot when their team wins, people riot when their team loses.

Woot for time-wasting threads. Just off for lunch then I'll be back with a vengeance.

For all those who cant stand watching soccer, I undertand. Although i am an avid soccer fan and watch the premier and bundesliga, I only think i watch it because i played it for so long.

But, if those same people say that baseball or golf is more entertaining than soccer, then i call bullshiat.
2006-06-16 08:31:10 AM
malcy: England played crap last night.

Too true.

My betting today went as follows:
Serbia/Montenegro to win (hope springs eternal)
Double bet. Pays if both Holland and Mexico win.

I'm putting whatever I have left on the Czechs tomorrow.
2006-06-16 08:31:28 AM
Can I just say, well done to our chaps with their well-earned 2-0 win over trinidad and tobasco yesterday. Admittedly, England were below par for the first hour, but the last 30 minutes we were actually quite good. Dreadful finishing on our part saved T&T from a jolly good thrashing.

And finally, I am *really* sick of our own media getting on our teams case all the time. How about a bit of moral support? I mean, ITV had the tumerity to say we "...scraped a narrow victory...". Since when was 2-0 "narrow"??

There are great video highlights of every game on the official Fifa 2006 site. They look good fullscreen, right click on the video and select zoom.

/not boring

Stube: And finally, I am *really* sick of our own media getting on our teams case all the time.

The commentray yesterday got on my tits. Before we scored the first goal they were all downbeat and 'oh this isn't going well'. After we scored it was 'poor old T & T, at least they came here and tried'. Patronising as fark that was.

2006-06-16 08:37:56 AM
Actually, a lot of people want to take away from T&T. You have to give those guys some credit, they played a really good game against a better team. T&T has nothing to be ashamed of.

With that said, GO NEDERLAND!!!x5

England didn't play too badly, we kept creating chances, it was just our inability to convert those chances into goals that was the problem. In the end we took two chances and got a deserved win. How about John Terry's save though eh? that had everyone cheering as loudly as a goal.
2006-06-16 08:43:23 AM
I just hope that I, and my fellow Dutch Farkers, make it in time. Work ends at 5 p.m., the match starts at 6. Going to be a close one. Luckily we already stocked the fridge with beer and snacks last night.
2006-06-16 08:44:00 AM
I got my England score prediction right yesterday, 1 out of 3 ain't bad. Today's score predictions:

Argentina 1, S&M 0
Netherlands 3, Ivory coast 0
Mexico 1, Angola 1
2006-06-16 08:44:22 AM
Prediction time:

Argentina & Serbia/Montenegro: 2 - 0 Argentina
Netherlands & Ivory Coast: 1 - 1 Tie
Mexico & Angola: 2 - 0 Mexico

/I'm probably wrong
//But who cares
2006-06-16 08:44:31 AM
Oranje über alles!
2006-06-16 08:46:20 AM
Good to see all the love for Holland! We're going to need it though, those Ivory Coast guys are really tough, big and fast. And they have to win to stay in the race.
2006-06-16 08:46:45 AM

yeah right!
Q:what do you call an ugly girl in Beunos Aries?

Ivory coast is a really fast team that can play great in the box.
no defence though!
2006-06-16 08:48:08 AM
binnster: Netherlands 3, Ivory coast 0

I never wanted someone to be right so bad. You have a good prediction status though, hope it keeps up!
2006-06-16 08:49:02 AM
Go I hate seeing my team split up amongst the national teams. Since everyones all gangbusters for Nederland, I'll back that since they got Arjen Robben.
2006-06-16 08:50:13 AM

Since this is a soccer thread, I won't say that baseball is more entertaining than soccer.

However, I will say that baseball is a very entertaining game in it's own right. It's just a different kind of entertaining than soccer. (And, it's my personal favorite.)

Now.. to bring things back to the topic at hand...
Argentina 2 vs. Serbia and Montenegro 0
Netherlands 3 vs. Ivory Coast 2
Mexico 2 vs. Angola 1
(Of course, since this is what I predict, this is what WON'T happen.)
2006-06-16 08:51:01 AM
Can I just say, well done to our chaps with their well-earned 2-0 win over trinidad and tobasco yesterday

That has got to be the funniest unintentional misspelling of a country. evar!

Unless you meant to do it, in which case, well played sir ;)
2006-06-16 08:51:35 AM
Argies vs Serbia Montenegro KO in 10 minutes.

I think this will be a good match.

Prediction: 3-1 Argentina
2006-06-16 08:53:15 AM
After last night, all I can say that England need to beat Sweden, and do so with a good solid win, as so far they've been a bit hit and miss

Also, if England beat Sweden and T&T beat Equador, and the combined Goal difference is 4 or more (or, 3 and T&T score twice more than Sweden), then T&T will go through
2006-06-16 08:54:34 AM
Holland should get some kind of sportmanship award. They chose not to select Huntelaar to give the other countries a chance to win the World Cup.

/yes, Van Basten is THAT nice a guy
