I feel like I already knew this...hasn't he said something to this effect before?

Great, now we can blame MS demise on his stepping down.

The real credit should go to Google, and their ability to shiat gold.

I wonder what his job pays... I need to update my resume. But, they'd probably want me to relocate to Seattle... and if there's a drug test, I'm screwed.

Who knew that bill gates was also spider-man?

"The company announced a two-year transition process to ensure that there is a smooth and orderly transfer of Gates' daily responsibilities, and said that after July 2008 Gates would continue to serve as the company's chairman and an advisor on key development projects.'"

So, not much is new

Is he going to Nambia too?

I wish Bill Gates would just up and buy the District of Columbia Corporation... at least then we could rest easy knowing our economy would be in good hands.

It's tough to step down from Total World Domination. I think a better way of defining his "new role" would be behind the scenes cloak and dagger to identify, attack and conquer his only true enemy....Google. The next 5 years should be filled with enough Farkisms to keep us all warm and fuzzy....

Cool

2006-06-15 05:06:49 PM
a few years ago he stepped down as president and CEO to become the "chief software architect" which is the position he is now leaving...and he has said over the years that he planned on retiring by or at 55...and will be 53 in 2008.

2006-06-15 05:06:58 PM
I wonder how much impact he's currently having on software development. I mean, I suspect there are probably enormous committees in charge of working out all the details on things like Vista, and that Gates isn't likely to be the Lead Designer on these deals...meaning that this move isn't likely to impact us end-users overmuch.

I think. I don't really know.

I'll wait for the inevitable bug-fix version of that report.

Wait, so the chairmen of one of the biggest companies on the planet, and the richest man in the world, gets his ethical code from Marvel comics?

Lord help us.

Actually... if I was Bill Gates, I would buy me a house... and a really nice Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Mostly because if I was Bill Gates, I would pick out one person per week and turn their entire life around. And this week, I would pick me!

Angry Beaver, as wayward as Gates is, I think we can only blame Mississippi's demise on Mississippians.

No doubt, the last straw came earlier today when he saw that iPod toilet roll product...

That year, Gates formed his charitable foundation, which now has $29.1 billion in assets.

WTF? He gave all his money to the charitable foundation?

He's a retard...

Goodnight, funnyman.

Seriously, how is this "news flash" worthy? The news flash tag should be reserved for when someone dies, or something explodes, or a celebrity has a baby.

Do you really think that was ALL of his money?

...and you call him a retard...

I never cared for Microsoft's software but I admire Bill's decision to leave and "share the wealth". Problem is, MS is being run by a Steve Ballmer who's a really scary character. That man has no couth and is VERY dangerous. Just go and read some of his interviews and you'll see why Bill was a much better PR person for that company. I feel sorry for them.

2006-06-15 05:10:57 PM
Good for him. I reckon everyone hates him - as I have at many times. But he's done ok for himself so whatever.

I sure am glad he can spend so much on those folks in Africa rather than invest in his own country.

I don't blame him for that. As sucky as things are for "some" people over here, they are vastly suckier for "most" people in Africa.

Lord_British: I sure am glad he can spend so much on those folks in Africa rather than invest in his own country.

Yeah! He should be doing things like buying computers for schools and libraries.

I think its awesome that he is donating so much of his time and wealth to help the world.

I wonder if all his critics have such a backbone. (The cash does make it easier for him of course). Cmon Mr Ellison... step up!

Don't worry, he saved enough to buy the entire world production of blow for the next 10 years and two continent's worth of hookers. Just in case.

He's always said that he plans to return most of his money to society. If that's retarded then you and I are much bigger retards for not having billions of dollars to do retarded things with.
