Curious, people keep saying heroics require more. Just what more does it require? Or do you mean that the deed / doer in question must be doing something you completely agree with?

Or is it just you have to save the princess from Koopa Troopas?

Hey, man, it takes a LOT of inner resolve to keep slogging through those dungeons, only to be told time and time again that "our princess is in another castle" by a midget in a puffy hat.

And, by the way, catching a bullet doesn't make you a hero. It makes you a series of concentric circles on a practice range. Doing something heroic (which is quite possible on the battlefield... even in this war) makes you a hero. Saving lives makes you a hero.

And if we're pathetic for disagreeing with this war, what does that say about those of you who sit on the sidelines cheering like some god damned Packers fans? Hell, you even take regular breaks between your triple chili cheese dogs with extra mustard to hit the gift shop and pick up a commemorative souveneir "Support Our Troops" ribbon. I'm just waiting til they invent the "Support Our Troops" hats-that-hold-your-beers and matching "Support Our Troops" big-foam-fingers so your look will be complete.

Each time I poo, I name the turd after a fallen U.S. soldier. Then I flush and wave bye-bye.

Good thing you didn't start using broad generalizations. Because that would just make you look as stupid as the group you're trying to make look stupid.

... and I'll gladly apologize when there comes a day that the most successful member of an already admittedly hick team of comedians isn't also the most outwardly moronic and uneducated (even though he's actually a rather intelligent man from the MIDWEST named DAN) and the number one movie in American isn't a FARKING PIXAR MOVIE ABOUT TALKING NASCAR RACE CARS. Until you, you may enjoy a large piece of my ass.

How about:

"Long Hard Road"
"Unconstitutional Blvd."
"Pointless Drive"
"Halliburton Highway"
"Deficit Mountain"
"National Debt Peak"
"Lost Our Way"
"Bush Dead End"

I can see the forthcoming irony of renaming the streets where Exxon and Haliburton are headquartered.

I was gonna come in, explain why this is dumb, be called a troll, and leave, but I'm glad to see I'm not needed today - logic and intelligence have already prevailed!

Wow. We have come to the point that people die for our freedom and you make fun of them. We need to reinstall the draft, starting with you.

Here, take a look at who we are fighting

Let the hilarity ensue. Stupid ungrateful farktards.

Hero tag? What the fark? Why don't we just start re-naming body parts for dead people? I'm starting to get a Captain Scurvalloo ache...I need a vicodin.

One more thing....

OOOOHHH! Look at me! I'm a patriot! I only care about Amurkuh as long as peoples is dyin'! I think that the man from that gay show is goin' tuh heyell!

Why don't we name streets after the true victims:

Freedom Mtn.
Liberty River
Constitution Ave.
Human Rights Park
Reason and Logic Hwy.
Gun Rights Blvd.
Privacy Valley

/the list goes on and on...

I normally don't consider myself necessarily anti-war, but the more I think about what's been happening in the last 5 years or so, the more I want to enshrine this post I've quoted from you.

As far as renaming things.. maybe we could have some fun, and rename those streets with stupid names where tired civil engineers have stretched their imaginations, say, with the names of people who've gotten Darwin Awards? :-D

Most of them get large streets. Nominees get cul-de-sacs. Living recipients get mountains or large parks. :-D

/They have improved the human race, after all.

Not for that reason.. but maybe your house is a black spot on the city map, just like Petoria on Family Guy. You're not part of the country.. so moonshine is legal, and so is crack. :-D

Wow. We have come to the point that people die for our freedom because of warmongering farkwits in D.C. and you make fun of them.

There, fixed that for ya.
Also, you seem to be confusing our criticism of the idea with criticising the actual troops.
Not surprising, unfortunately, given that a lot of Americans can't make such clear, reasonable distinctions.

I understand the disaffected like you dont make the connection between war and freedom. Even a bad war. I don't want this war, I want it to stop. Unfortunately there are those who choose to attack us, fly planes into our buildings, kill us for painting pictures et al. Until they leave us alone, we have to defend ourselves. And because your elected official (did you vote?)voted for this war(remember that?), you and I have to defend it. If not do what John Walker did. Hell theres an American with conviction.

They'll be lucky to have their names spelled right on their headstones let alone on a street sign.

How about we just name every farking thing "fallen hero" and call it done?

Bah, kill `em all.

"Squaw Peak Parkway 9AZ 51)" to "Piestewa Parkway" or somesuch..."

So what's the difference in the name?

THEY ARE NOT DYING FOR ANYONE'S FREEDOM, YOU KOOL-AID DRINKER!!!!!

They are dying so that Bush can use wartime powers to funnel money to his cronies! Now, and for years afterward! Oil access is what they are dying for!

FOLLOW THE MONEY, THINK FOR YOURSELF!

And the idea of naming streets after the guys who died is a silly, sappy, stupid idea. Did we do this for WW2 vets? Or any of the legitimate wars?

ONLY HEROES got that honor.

This CHEAPENS that honor as a sop to soldiers who fell in a cheap war.

2006-06-14 02:04:27 PM
It takes guts to fight for your country. It takes a lack of brains and character to commit your country to an unnecessary war with no exit strategy.

Bears reposting.

I'm all for honoring those that lose their lives in service to their country, but I'd rather it be done by keeping them out of unnecessary danger and giving them proper training and equipment if facing danger IS necessary, than by putting up a new street sign on the block where their widows and children live.

Hideously Gigantic Smurf

The one basic freedom this administration has NOT gone after is one's right to own a gun.

If you think that, you haven't been paying close enough attention. Might want to look into the antics of the unconstitutional BATFE a bit. Like the raid on KT Ordnance last week or the dealings of Len Savage with them or the banning of importation of some gun parts, just to name a few. The AWB is the ONLY thing the R's have done in favor of gun rights and Bush was pushing for it's continuance.

Republicans are no more pro-gun than Democrats are.

Explain how their death was related to my freedom.

That freedom thing aside; because it's a flame war in itself, isn't it enough that they put on the uniform for the purpose of defending this country?

I cannot believe the vitriol of the posts in this thread, and I've seen my share.

CHUCK,
Way to give the south a better image. Do you inbred pigfarkers have indoor plumbing yet, or do lynchings take up too much of you people's time? It's probably hard to figure out how to build a toilet when you're holding a rope and a pig. You know, if you'd just stop farking animals and cousins, you people would have fewer problems with toothless and shoeless inbred babies and STDs. Hell, if bird flu can jump species, you people will soon be proof that goat herpes can jump species. You know, sometimes I wish the south had won the civil war. The country would have been divided, and while your ancestors would have been drinking moonshine and farking animals and yelling "YEEEEE HAW," whatever the hell that means, my ancestors would have been figuring out a way to destroy all of you and your kind. You are an abomination on the face of the Earth and you do not deserve to breathe the same air as decent people. Are you really so stupid that you can't understand what's happening to this country? Are you completely braindead? Are you one of those people who voted based on faith? Can you even read this? I sincerely hope that you walk in front of a bus.

I was so disgusted when my local park, which is pretty big, was renamed after some pencil-pushing-loser who had been our municipal mayor for 15 years.

I'm curious to read this thread as the day goes on...

Hmm, maybe we should flip it around.. rename the pencil-pushing loser after something else.

"Took refuge in Iraq"...hahaha.

Yeah, and Saddam Hussein wasn't the real reason we attaked then? Or WMD's that didn't exist? It was to "chase the 9/11 people into Iraq?"

What, Osama is in Iraq?

Was it a good idea to remove Hussein, who hated Islamic militants and who hated his secular ass right back?

If we'd left Hussein alone, Iraq would have been a target of Al Qaeda's, not an ALLY, FarkLark!

I guess enough for a bunch of assholes to not denigrate them for being dead.

Your comment was that they didn't die for your freedom. Fine, that's your opinion, and I respect that. But their death was related to the fact that they put on the uniform in order to defend you and me and America. Do they not deserve some respect for that?

I am amazed at the amount of military bashing in this thread, it's freaking creepy.

Nobody's bashing the guys who died. We're bashing what they died FOR, WHO sent them there, and WHY.

The right-wing is the one that ought to be kissing up to the families of the murdered troops, because we left-wingers didn't want them sent there in the first place.

All the blood is on the right-wing's hands.

THAT is who we're bashing.

In all honesty to the naming of streets, however, names are running short.

Pretty soon, we choose between personal names, incremental numbers, or random character generators.

My street name: n=,}.,`b1#VyJ!*@zIh~f,k%CT/+%y.&{|ssGHF2dwp>+3)A
