Wait, what?

Didn't it go down yesterday because of that?

.....I think that, perhaps, this whole oil thing has no basis in reality.

muninsfire,

.....I think that, perhaps, this whole oil thing has no basis in reality.

It doesn't.

A few analysts from some very big firms give their, often uninformed, opinions. These big firms often have a vested interest in the commodities they're giving their opinions on.

Everyone takes these opinions as gospel and they go out and buy the shiat out of the commodities (assuming the firms keep talking the commodities up, like they do oil).

Prices go up. Small traders make a little bit of money, big traders make big money, and consumers end up buying at the highest closing price when they buy their gas at the pump.

It's a wonderful system, and, you're right. It has virutally no basis in reality. The stock and commodity markets are based as much on emotion and gut instinct as they are on facts.

I've got to admit it was bizarre seeing Jay Leno showing the pictures of his dead body on the Tonight Show for a bad punchline. Did anyone else see that?

2006-06-09 09:44:19 AM
I sat and watched a 6 year old watching a report on al-Z, his bloated corpse full screen.

Doesn't anyone else think it's freaking wrong to be plastering bloated bloody corpses all over the primetime news?

joelogic: Doesn't anyone else think it's freaking wrong to be plastering bloated bloody corpses all over the primetime news?

And to think, people get freaked out over a nipple.

Just ain't right, huh?

Kinda like the broadcast standards in this country are set by some kinda minority?

Yeah, but in the meantime people made money on it going up, and down, and we've shown we're willing to pay $3 for gas, so welcome to the status quo...

Over the past few days, the price of oil fell without the price at my local pump going down. It goes back up to where it was a few days ago and they raise the farking price.

Low-life price-gauging scum bags every freakin one of them

2006-06-09 12:47:35 PM
Makes me sad to see dead american bodies being displayed. Wow lets put their heads on pikes.

Big oil, Bush, Republicans, wingnut, personal attack, CEO salaries, golden parachute, record profits, gouging, price fixing conspiracy, supply, demand, free market, monopoly, biodiesel, hydrogen, ethanol, solar, smart car, hybrid, SUV, Hummer.

If al-Zarqawi got this much press when he was alive I might give a shiat.

2006-06-09 12:49:19 PM
My car runs on queefs.

2006-06-09 12:49:24 PM
Major Thomb, that pretty much covers everything.

2006-06-09 12:49:53 PM
My spastic colon made the price of oil go up.

2006-06-09 12:50:02 PM
but, i thought we all LOVED capitialism?

Oh wait, we arent the top .1%? Oops.

2006-06-09 12:50:04 PM
no...the oil prices are rising because the price of oil dropped yesterday.

comeon, get it right

2006-06-09 12:50:23 PM
Major Thomb,

You forgot "peak oil".

2006-06-09 12:50:35 PM
I love the fact that if I'm not out gallavanting around the country on my employer's gas (usually in compact, gas-sipping rented cars), I save a BUNDLE by working from home...and using NO gas in a typical work week.

Gas companies can go fark themselves.

2006-06-09 12:50:41 PM
$40 to fill my car today. When I first got the car ten years ago, it was more like $20 to fill. At least I don't have an SUV.

:(

I'm still waiting for this retarded administration to find Osama. Screw Iraq. The guys who actually attacked the US have not been caught. But they don't bother to look for him much.

Major Thomb you forgot ... But Clinton!

2006-06-09 12:52:21 PM
Major Thomb, I'd add to that list: peak oil, and government mandated special fuel blends.

But yeah, that does pretty much sum it up.

2006-06-09 12:52:42 PM
Wow, I totally was thinking about this last night thinking "I'm surprised they didn't spin this to make oil prices higher."

Looks like it just took them a day.

Fark those fatheads.

You know what? Maybe this could be turned into a positive. Maybe Ross Perot was right when he said that taxing the fark out of gasoline would solve a lot of our economic woes. If we're used to the high price of gas, it would be a good time to take advantage of this were prices to fall. Obviously this is a pipe dream, but... just sayin'.

/of course, the trucking industry...

Doesn't anyone think it's wrong to let your 6 year old watch the evening news?

Did the news yesterday just suddenly become a gratuitous display of gore and violence? Was it all puppies and balloons on Wednesday?

Akuinnen

no, you had it right the first time.

it is phoenetic...SUV starts with an "es" sound so you use "an"

english is interesting that way.

2006-06-09 12:53:54 PM
I had CNN on, this morning. I had to turn off my TV, when they started showing his dead body, while my three year-old was eating breakfast. No, "shocking image" warning. Just bam, a dead body. WTF is that?

I would cereally him rather see naked boobs than a dead body.

2006-06-09 12:54:04 PM
Heres an idea I came up with all by myself..Lets boycott a gas station, say shell, and then they'll be forced to lower their prices, we can beat the system!

/ducks

Akuinnen,

Akuinnen: an SUV

a SUV

It depends on whether you're saying "ess u vee" or "sport utility vehicle">

If you're saying "ess u vee", then "an" is the correct modifier :)

Iraq is struggling to pump 2 million barrels per day, down from about 2.5 million bpd before the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

If I'm reading that right I think it says Iraq was producing more oil under Saddam Hussein than they are under George W. Bush's leadership. Farking wonderful.

2006-06-09 12:56:51 PM
foo monkey: I would cereally him rather see naked boobs than a dead body.

If he was breast fed, he has seen more live naked boobs in the last couple years than most Fark readers :P

scottkuma: I save a BUNDLE by working from home...and using NO gas in a typical work week.

I think most the people I work with could work from home. I'm not sure why they don't. The technology is there, but I think maybe people are too dependant on talking or meeting with people who are physically there. I've found that when my office is open, people will walk across the building to discuss something simple that could have been discussed through e-mail.

Yes it is. Blame the democrats. The reason we do it is that if we don't the democrats will claim that we are lying and didn't kill him at all and/or he never existed in the first place.

2006-06-09 12:57:59 PM
Saw the worst birthday card ever. It had a donkey sticking out the window of an SUV, and inside the card it said: "Happy Birthday - Here's an AssUV."

I wanted to kill everyone that day.

2006-06-09 12:58:20 PM
If everyone didn't drive around so much then perhaps the price of gas would go down cuz there would be too much of it. Supply and Demand people.
If every owner of an SUV switched to a honda accord or another car that got 30+ MPG and drove around just as much as they usually do, then the price of gas would drop by at least 50 cents within a month.

2006-06-09 12:58:40 PM
Oil Traders are nothing but high-stakes gamblers and they will use/mis-use any information or event to help them get the edge over the other guy. Meanwhile, we still buy the gas, so we must pay the price that they are charging. Complainig about gas prices is like complaining about the weather.

not particularly. i think you guys are being oversensitive. you have a 6 year old? that means it is only going to be 7 years before he can go to a pg13 movie...you cant hide kids from reality forever.

instead you can explain it to him in context and maybe...you know...TEACH your kid something about the world he lives in.

2006-06-09 01:01:01 PM
SHOCKING !!
everyone KNOWS that once we kill the head, that everyone will dance in the streets and welcome the americans

That's exactly what that is saying. See, a civil war tends to take a toll on oil pipelines, rigs, and production facilities. They get blown up semi-frequently, and the security situation is such that repairing them is difficult. Haliburton et al also kind of sucks at doing that sort of work, too.

You obviously have some anger management issues and you should probably not be allowed to walk the streets in a free society.
