She had been in danger of not graduating after she failed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge, or TAKS test, three times. The test is a requirement by the Texas Education Agency for graduation from high school.

She broke the rules AND is a complete moron. She failed a proficiency test three times!?

Maybe she wasn't 'twirling', she was just trying to keep her balance while lugging around that giant water filled head.

Action Replay Nick

While I do think this is heavy handed, I can't muster too much outrage on behalf of an idiot.

1) Idiot
2) Knew the rules
3) Did it anyway
4) Idiot

Yes, it's heavy handed. But let's try a novel approach like lobbying the schoolboard to get the rules changed instead of ignoring them and whining about it afterward.

Personal responsibility people. If this was a huge issue, it would be dealt with.

Apparently, every single other farker there was able to restrain themselves.

What a bunch of worthless biatches. She soon will realize how absolutely worthless her diploma is, anyway. That should be the first lesson they teach you when you start high school.

High school is for socializing, period. Want to learn? Go to a library (or use some Internet sites...).

JUST when i think my head can't asplode anymore, here comes texas...at my graduation i pumped my fists, some kids break danced down the isle, hell even the kid in the wheelchair did some circles (ours was outside on the football field) and noone would have ever DREAMED of telling us not to celebrate within reason.

with the dropout rate in this country and overall shiat structure of our school system, let these kids celebrate they've earned it.

that graduate high school cant do basic algebra, cant name the first 5 presidents and cant speak english any better than a goddamn frenchman

They can't use apostrophes, either, I guess.

Personally, I can't name the first 5 presidents. That is nothing but pointless trivia. At no time in my life will remembering the fourth president's name ever be important to me.

this goes on my list of "reasons to never visit texas" as reason number 476

the list growns daily

Well, genius, since Houston is obviously the epicenter of all things Texas to you, it pains me that I will not have to share this with you.

Well, actually it doesn't, so fark off.

You'd think with a 30+ percent dropout rate, that schools would be so farking glad to see ANY kid cross the stage and get a diploma, they wouldn't care if the kid was naked with their hair on fire..

I'm sick of hearing about "failing schools", and that nothing can be done to fix them.

The building doesn't fail. The kids don't fail, intentionally. The teachers don't fail. (well there are always jerks who continue to teach despite years of complaints...another story in and of itself).

PARENTS FAIL by not taking an active interest in their kid's education and discipline.

My wife's sister sees it constantly.

Parents can't even be bothered to show up for counseling sessions, despite the fact that she's willing to stay well after normal hours to accommodate thier schedules.

Parents can't be bothered to properly provide school supplies, despite the list being published months before school starts. (she spends upwards of $300 a school season out of her OWN POCKET just to cover for the lazy farks who can't be bothered to go to Wal-Mart and pick up the $13 worth of stuff their kid will need)

Parents who dump their kids off at school, expecting the teachers to be the primary discipline figure, and who refuse to follow through when there's a serious issue that requires their involvement.

The list could go on and on.

What grade does she teach?

Kindergarten.

Poor kids. Too bad the schools can't enforce detention for being a crappy parent.

If I were near this situation, when I walked up the ramp and got near the school officials, I would semi-fake having to sneeze and, since I'm not allowed to raise my arms above my waist, sneeze a huge goober directly into the face of the principal.

I mean, with stupid rules come stupid consequences.

// not allowed to cover your mouth when coughing?
/// not allowed to cover your nose when sneezing?

She had been in danger of not graduating after she failed the Texas Assessment of Knowledge, or TAKS test, three times.

But her mother said that she is "determined to do something about this."

Yeah, Mom is probably real involved with this retard.

Heh, same here. When I read about the stories of some teenage girl being angsty and writing in her diary and getting mandatory counseling, I can only remember the things I wrote in mine and be very grateful I got out when I did.

My daughter graduated last week from a school system north of Dallas. The week prior, we received a very stern letter from the principal concerning the appropriate dress and behavior that was to be expected from the students and other guests.

However, there was lots of waving and fist pumping as the students walked across the stage.

Oh, the students were also told no cameras or phones, and were herded through a metal detector prior to entering the seating area...

But...but... arms ARE above the waist! You don't have to raise them at all, that's just where they are. Unless this is a special school for the deformed, or something. You break this rule simply by having arms...

Graduations have changed from respectful ceremonies of dignified gravitas to freakshows of students all trying to show off their individuality in exactly the same way.

Yes. We got a passing grade for the semester.

Gecko Gingrich: "I've been an educator for years, and in that time, I've seen a lot of bad eggs. I say 'eggs' because at the high school level we are not dealing with fully-developed individuals. I see a bad egg when I look at your niece. She is a twiddler, a dreamer, a silly heart
and she is a jabberbox. And, frankly, I don't think she takes a thing in her life or her career as a student seriously."

"I don't think I want to know a six-year-old who isn't a dreamer, or a sillyheart. And I sure don't want to know one who takes their student career seriously. I don't have a college degree. I don't even have a job. But I know a good kid when I see one. Because they're ALL good kids, until dried-out, brain-dead skags like you drag them down and convince them they're no good. You so much as scowl at my niece, or any other kid in this school, and I hear about it, and I'm coming looking for you! Take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face! Good day to you, madam."

The teacher in charge of our graduation ceremony was PISSED that my row didn't all stand up at the same time and then we started laughing about it. Because during rehearsals she was really frickin' anal about it.

Graduation is the Public Education System's last opportunity to wield control over their students. And they'll do it. Oh yes, they will.

/gives them chubbies, I think

Ahh, right on cue... Here come the goose-steppers. There are always one or two of you "RULES ARE RULES" farkers.

Stupid laws/rules should be opposed up to whatever point where you think you can still get away with it, and beyond if you are willing to take the punishment. They should NOT be blindly followed.

What the hell is wrong with school administrators? Are these yesterday's hippies turned into today's zero tolerence nazis?

Maybe 10 years ago, my youngest son took a micro-sized pocket knife to school in 1st or 2nd grade. The principal took it away, admonished him in her office, called my wife and that was the end of that. If it were to happen now, the FBI would've been brought in, he'd be brought up on Federal charges, expelled from school, you'd read about it here in Fark and I'd be looking at $20-$30 grand in attorney's fees defending him plus we'd be changing to a new school district or private school to get him re-admitted.

Same thing happened in Texas to me in 1991. My twin sister graduated right ahead of me and I jumped up and down. They gave me a blank diploma. I had to go to the school a week later and pick it it. The principal told me I was "inapproprately exuberant". I took my diploma and called her a coont.

So why exactly did you go get your diploma?

I've never technically graduated from high school, during finals week I and another freind got into a water gun fight and were held from our Econ final which ment we failed the class. Being an asshat, and haveing all ready been accepted to collage I said fark it and blew off all my remaing finals for the year. My GPA went into the toliet, I did not have enough credits to graduate and still have no high school diploma. Yet I have one bachelours and two master degrees.

fark high school it's just a place to house the animals utnil we can shove them into minumum wage jobs or jail.

I'm glad that my school wasn't uptight.

We had kids dancing, shouting, sliding accross the stage... the audience loved it. Went crazy with each whacky thing the next kid would do.

i never said anything about scenery...and virginia has some nice scenes. However i hate Virginia as well.

in maryland i had gone 18 years being able to count the number of confederate flags i saw on the back of pickup trucks on one hand. as soon as i was south of harrisonburg that record was broken within the half hour.

granted, texas doesnt have confederate flags (i would assume), but you people are nuts. Mostly because you are the only state that takes offense when people poke fun at you. Which is why people poke fun at you so much.

You have to nip this kind of thing in the bud. If you don't, it could lead to dancing.

Isn't Northside ISD the same school district that banned the one smart kid because he was being bullied? I think the adminstrators need to be stripped and tied to stakes.

Hey, the teacher said if we could crack her security, she'd give us all a passing grade for the semester.

I had a teacher say almost the exact same thing. "If you can get in, well, you deserve the grade."

(100 milliseconds later): "Banana"

"What?"

"Your password is 'Banana'"

"How?"

"You have it on a sticky-note on your monitor in your office."

And scarily enough, I still see people's passwords scratched on papers near their monitors.
