From TFA:

British researchers suggest that focusing men to play soccer instead of watching it may improve the men's health by reducing risky behavior.

That's not acting like men! Soccer is for girls.

From TFA:

Young men's health is currently an area of serious concern, with adolescent and young adult men being more likely to drink excessively and use illegal drugs, to engage in risky casual sex and to be to be killed or injured in road traffic accidents...

God I loved my early 20's!

Dear Men's Health:

Q: How can I improve my health?
A: You can act like a MAN! What's the matter with you. Is this how you turned out? A Hollywood finocchio that cries like a woman?

It's called Natural Selection. Let's just run with it.

Soccer is good for your health. End of story.

What I don't get is why fewer and fewer men are going to college in the USA. I know of several universities that now have policies of relaxing admission standards for men a bit to ensure an acceptable gender ratio. Kinda scary that we're hitting 43-45% of applications.
/are men getting dumber or are women getting smarter?

RTA: For example, men who are not confident in their sporting abilities may try and make up for this by drinking excessively.

I for one agree with this statement because it describes me to a T.

Oh, I beg to differ, Submitter . I respectfully bet to differ. More scratching = more healthiness. Show me where I'm wrong..

Men who drink excessively have low testosterone levels. Alcohol turns you into a woman.

2006-06-06 01:44:04 AM
I love how "being a man" is essentially not being a lazy drunken shiat.

Randy Savage comes to mind, clearly.

As usual, women are the ones bringing the men down. If it weren't for them, one less risk factor.

2006-06-06 01:46:21 AM
The irony is that men who are truly masculine don't give a shiat about this.

Ergo, you post in this thread, you're not masucline.

Oh, bugger.

Wait, so if you get up off your sofa and actually play sports instead of just drinking beer and watching them on tv, you'll be healthier? That can't be right.

2006-06-06 01:56:37 AM
Oh, silly UPI and Submitter. Acting masculine does not improve your health, excercizing does. I'm sure if they were playing [insert traditionally feminine sport here] rather than watching it, youd be saying that acting feminine improves men's health?

Additionally, the article could just have well have said that men who involve themselves in community activities, significant time commitments, etc. were less likely to 'engage in risky behavior.'

- - - - - - - -

This was based on in-depth interviews AND comparing soccer players to soccer watchers? I'm trying to understand. I don't see the connection between the headline and the results, other than 31 mens' opinions, which are heavily influenced by social norms and shouldn't be relied on for scientific conclusions. There are some things that are fishy about this study...

Women always were plenty smart, they are just running with it now. Men are getting lazy. Or, lazier than they were before.

Warren G. Harding

For men to excel educationally they have to overcome the negative stigma attached to it. I know I'm generalising here, but when I was at school (not long ago) literally ANY indication that study wasn't worse than being stabbed in the eye with a fork was universally ridiculed. I remember a friend of mine actually having to defend his occasional weekend study.

People learn how to be people, especially along gender lines, from their peers and from cultural meaning systems embedded in other major social information providers. I think the problem has come from the criteria for masculinity evolving into a culture of stupid.

Yes, nothing is going on in the rest of the world. Seriously. Everyone in all the other countries are so exited for the World Cup that they do less. Even Iran. They are in the WC too.

Let me tell you, Europe is doing Nothing and in a week they are about to do even less.

2006-06-06 05:06:09 AM
surely, with the monsterization of masculinity, it can't be right that acting along our biological drives to be physical and competitive is the healthy way for us men to function. And, even if it is correct, considering the entire culture of promoting women at the expense of men during this age of pro-femininity (read: different than equality feminism), this news will quickly be discounted from acting masculine, to whatever other nonsense can rationalize these health benefits without relying on the merit or benefit of testosterone or manliness.

2006-06-06 05:58:28 AM
"Monsterization of masculinity?" I hear a boo-hoo coming on. This is where feminism is blamed for all men's troubles, and men are sheep being led to the slaughter by pushy women. "Discounting" this would be pointing out the obvious--that it's better to get off your ass and move around, as opposed to sitting on your ass, drinking and watching t.v.

If "acting like men" means not trying to "get in touch with their feminine side," then I'd agree.

Thing is too many boys are drugged with Ritalin and the like for acting like boys...never mind that boys tend to be naturally rambunctious. And you have the feminists to thank for that, guys.

I for one do NOT welcome our feminist overlords.
