img.fark.com tag?

I am going to need a ruling on this one.

2006-06-05 01:36:08 PM
Dang! The ironic tag must be broken again.

how about an Ironic tag for this one? Thats the most blatant form of irony I think one can encounter.

/This story made me laugh, not cry

Isn't it ironic that a truely ironic article doesn't get the img.fark.com tag?

2006-06-05 01:37:19 PM
didnt he know it was going to be a problem?

It isn't irony, it's stupidity.

Hey, it used to list your Weeners, CrazyZone. Maybe they had to do an instant-replay or something.

It would be ironic if he were posting Radon warning signs.

This is just sad.

2006-06-05 01:40:17 PM
Oh, come on! That's a freaking burning inviation to use the ironic tag. Bah!

He got killed by the thing he was warning people could kill them!

Sure, it's stupid too.

2006-06-05 01:40:36 PM
Not ironic. Irony would be if he was putting up signs saying the air in the room was safe.

2006-06-05 01:41:13 PM
It's the good advice, that you just can't take.

Who would have thought....? It figures.

His wife should sue the sign manufacturer. The sign clearly did not save him.

Yes indeedy.

wldncrzy14: I'm gonna have to go counter on this one; if he's posting the signs, he's aware of the risks. I would logically expect the tech to be prepared for such an event. That he wasn't prepared for the very risk he was warning about is counter to what I'd expect. Ironic.

2006-06-05 01:47:47 PM
you'd expect it to be ironic, but it's not.

/or did i just blow your FREAKING MIND!?

2006-06-05 01:48:10 PM
Stupid reporters, you can't get poisoned by Nitrogen. The only problem with Nitrogen is if it pushes all the Oxygen out of the room. Which, case in point, is a significant problem.

2006-06-05 01:48:26 PM
We should ban Nitrogen from our atmosphere!

2006-06-05 01:49:03 PM
Ah, Fark, where nothing is ever ironic.

2006-06-05 01:49:15 PM
The one "good" thing to come out of this is the certainty that he didn't know he was dying and that it was painless.

There are some people who want to make Nitrogen Asphyxiation the de-facto standard for executions in the US.

Other than that, sad and unfortunate.

2006-06-05 01:49:35 PM
It's ironic.

2006-06-05 01:50:32 PM
Wait, what? Nitrogen? As in 78.1% of our atmosphere? That said I will now GRTFA.

2006-06-05 01:50:33 PM
Nitrogen isn't poison! it's 78% of what we breathe everyday...the only danger is when it displaces the oxygen in a confined space...when you're breathing 100% nitrogen and no oxygen, you suffocate...you still breathe normally, but you'll feel light headed, pass out and die eventually. I've only experienced the first one of those, then I went outside and was fine.

NOT ironic, people.

2006-06-05 01:52:17 PM
Okay, by mekkab's reasoning I could see this as ironic.

But I think getting killed by something you're trying to warn people about isn't especially ironic.

It's kind of like dying in a crash after yelling "Look out, we're going to crash!"

Irony is about going against expectations. But since expectations are subjective, so is Irony.

Not ironic. Irony would be if he was putting up signs saying the air in the room was safe.

You went to the same school of irony that Alanis Morissette went to, didnt you?

A friggin' post-it note???

i blame too many warnngs. only an idiot takes all warnings seriously nowadays.

Smallberries Stupid reporters, you can't get poisoned by Nitrogen. The only problem with Nitrogen is if it pushes all the Oxygen out of the room. Which, case in point, is a significant problem.

Wouldn't 'the bends' count as nitrogen poisoning?
I mean you are literally killed by nitrogen.....

The irony of the song is that nothing in it is ironic.

I just know this is going to be the reasoning to blame scientists after the last hold-outs finally admit global warming is real.

Inflected forms: pl. i·ro·nies
1a. The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning. b. An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning. c. A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See synonyms at wit1. 2a. Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: "Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated" (Richard Kain). b. An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.

Expected: safety technitian posting signs about nitrogen threats being the most capable individual to deal with said threats.

Occured: safety technician killed by element he hoped to protect others from.

result: IRONY

2006-06-05 01:58:45 PM
It's ironic that there's a an Irony discussion in a thread where the ironic tag was not used.

the ironing is delicious

2006-06-05 02:01:06 PM
So a fireman dying in a fire is also ironic, because it's something he hoped to protect others from?

2006-06-05 02:01:15 PM
addendum: technition = technician proofreading is the road to hell.

Also irony is not necesarily humerous although in this case I find the situation hilarious expressly on account of the IRONY.

2006-06-05 02:01:31 PM
Only if it was the fireman's wedding day.

2006-06-05 02:02:26 PM
what is it with the irony wars on fark? who cares?

2006-06-05 02:04:04 PM
It's the good advice he just didn't take.

2006-06-05 02:05:06 PM
And yes a fireman being killed by a fire is ironic however a fireman drowning at the top of a mountain would have a greater deal of irony to contend with and therefor either A: much funnier (for me) or B: obviously rhetorical (for you)
