Earth-shattering research discovers kids bullied at school become depressed

... and paranoid, and homicidal, and ...

bah! I was bullied mercilessly when I was 12. I was the new kid at school, and the rest of the kids would wait in the bathroom for me and beat the hell out of me. That's where I learned my fightin' skills. At the very least, that's where I learned how to take a punch.

"Victims of bullying have been characterised as being anxious and insecure and having low self-esteem."

no,no,no,
that's why they were bullied in the first place!
gotcher ol' cause n' effect backwards, lil' missy.

You know..

Bah..forget it.

*waits for farkers to share bullying stories*

damn straight, sweater girl. The whole experience was a character builder.

2002-06-16 02:09:47 AM
That's it...when I get sober I'm making a "no shiat" tag.

2002-06-16 02:14:07 AM
I too was bullied until I found out I could lay someone out with one punch.

Being six feet tall and 200 pounds when you were 14 had it's advantages after all.

General rundown:

Bullied kids: Depressed, low self-esteem.

Bullies: Angry, insecure, low self-esteem.

Kids who don't get bullied: Conformist, boring, low self-esteem.

I think that if you're a teenager with high self-esteem you're probably in the minority.

I think this study goes right allong with "Coed dorm rooms lead to sex". They've got some geniuses working on these studies, man.

I can testify to that. Pass the Paxil...

maybe we are too worried about putting a label on someone and shoving pills down thier throats when someone isn't exactly like you.

All my enemies are dead.

2002-06-16 02:38:20 AM
Testifying as a kid who was bullied all throughout my middle and late into my high school years I only have one thing to impress upon those kids:

KILL YOUR ENEMIES.

2002-06-16 02:55:14 AM
Note to self: be very very nice to CappyGoat.

Bullies are bullies because they get picked on themselfs, usely at home by their parents or older siblings. I actually feel sorry for them.

now the funny stuff. In eight grade I got picked on by this girl, I was a big guy so most of the guys my age left me alone, and she was all making fun of me for not having any friends and stuff. Then, about a month ago I got board so I decided to go a local strip joint. Low and behold, who is working the poll but Holly herself. She did give a really good lap dance though, so it all evened out.

2002-06-16 03:57:07 AM

Oh, come on, people. How can you say things like "All my enemies are dead", and "KILL YOUR ENEMIES." That's so wrong.

The correct procedure is to make them your slaves. Only kill them when they become frail. Well, yes, and also when you're bored.

This is off-topic, but does anyone know where I can buy a Floating Castle Of Doom?

Dan, that's got to be one of the craziest revenge-on-bully stories I have ever read. Did she recognize you? Maybe she teased you because she liked you or something.

I disagree with Uber:

To enslave your enemies means an increase in resposibility and there is always the option of retaliation: If we learn one thing from the movies it's to kill your enemies quick and absolute: not with an overly elaborate plan which can backfire.

KILL THEM ALL! PARADE THEIR HEADS ON POLES AROUND THE TOWN SQUARE! Then and only then will true retribution be achieved

P.S. High-schoolers have low self-esteem? Get the Fark over it! so does 85% of everybody else! What makes you so special?!? Pull your head out of your books, your angst, your rock and or roll, depressing poetry, your gothic dispositions and your ass and get over it. Boo-hoo.....*snif

Angst is like most dairy products: it has an expiration date and it eventually goes bad

Sorry, that was a little bi-polar there.....

I guess I'll have to blame that on my poor childhood

Obbop: No fears. I'm pretty hard to tick off, but I guess I believe if someone really tries hard they should be rewarded.

I have to go with DanThe1Man on this one. Those who were always the bullies in school are now the ones who are pumping my gas and flipping my burgers.

Everyone is thinking this...

Well duh!

The one major difference between kids who were victims of bullying and those who weren't....

The first rule of being picked on by a potential bully is: you kick the living farking daylight out of him. Or at least try. Heads, elbows and knees are fair play. Even if you end up bloodied, he'll never pick on you again, he'll go and find something easier to play with.

Here endeth the lesson.

When I was a kid...this girl used to come to my bus stop and bully me all the time. Every day, day in day out...she would taunt me, say mean things, and hit me! Finally, I just got so fed up I would say, "MOM STOP THAT!!!!!"...yeah she'd stop for a while...for a while....

2002-06-16 07:34:34 AM
wow!!!...they could of poved that by talking to me, anyway, all the people the people that bullied me are failures in life, and i am actually pretty well off

Finally, we can build that George Jetson car and cure cancer!!!

-end

Haha it's too early to read, i thought the article said threaten them with ham...

when i first started working at the pool, one of the other guards was not very nice to me, he stole my books a lot and generally pissed me off. then one night, he got really drunk and broke his ankle, meaning he couldn't work for about 6 weeks. The first two were the happiest of my life, but then I started to miss him. True to happy ending form, we get along famously now.

2002-06-16 11:18:17 AM
I was routinely bullied in school, and today I suffer from several major psychological problems and am generally unable to deal with people.

This just in: the world is round as well!

you forgot cheerleaders, they have high self esteem, but they barly count as humans seeing as most have an I.Q. < 60

Bullies are generally the biggest a-holes. Things get much better at college because people there are usually a bit smarter & nicer. At college there are allot of nerdy types also. So, kids who get bullied should go to college so they will not have to work w/ the min-wage bully a-holes for the rest of their lives. Do not get me wrong, there are plenty of very nice people who work in non-college jobs, but there are plenty of a-holes there also.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of the women.

I was bulled somewhat, not terrible. Never beat up, just held in the air by 6 foot tall 9th graders by my neck or ears sometimes when I was in 7th.

Most of it was in middle school come to think of it, and I didn't stick up for myself nearly enough. It doesn't reall seem to make sense now, but I always got picked on for being SHORT

"Why are you so short, why are you so short, why are you so short, HEY WHY ARE YOU SO SHORT!"

I'd either resort to eventually kicking these kids directly in the ass with my shoe, or giving them witty, funny replies that they wouldn't understand.

The shoe in ass technique was the most effective method of getting them to leave me alone. I still was a depressed kid with low self esteem though

I prolly would have been bullied- if I wasn't 6'2" and a very scary person. Plus, some guy tried to stab me with a ruler in 8th grade and he ended up needing 16 stiches in his hand from where I smashed it through his palm.

I really didn't want to have to do that.

I learned an interesting bit about depression. When you are depressed chemicals in your brain are destroying brain cells and memories. Your brain deals with badness by doing a partial self-destruct.

Call me brain damaged.
