All religions are sorta batshiat crazy. Basing one off of a science fiction writer who admits that the best way to make shiatloads of money is to start your own religion is just stupid.

That's so damn funny.

Scienos are frickin' deranged.

One religion is full of batshiat, manipulative members who would drain your life and your wallet. The other one is Islam.

RIMMER: Everyone's entitled to their beliefs, Lister. I never agreed
with my parent's religion, but I wouldn't dream of knocking it.
LISTER: What were they?
RIMMER: Seventh day advent hoppists. They believed that every Sunday
should be spent hopping. They would hop to church, hop through the
service, then hop back home again.
LISTER: What was the idea behind that, then?
RIMMER: Well you see, they took the Bible literally. Adam and Eve; the
snake and the apple... Took it word for word. Unfortunately, their
version had a misprint. It was all based on 1 Corinthians 13, where it
says "Faith, hop and charity, and the greatest of these is hop." So
that's what they did. Every seventh day. I tell you, Sunday
lunchtimes were a nightmare. Hopping round the table, serving soup --
we all had to wear sou'esters and asbestos underpants.

(Beacause) Americans are better informed about Islam than they were five years ago, a new CBS News poll finds fewer than one in five say their impression of the religion is favorable.

There. Fixed it.

.........because Islam wasn't founded by a Sci-Fi writer

Yes, because Scientology has been responsible for the deaths of so many more people.

I will take the freaky mostly harmless religions anyday...thank you.

I especially prefer the Suicide Cults where they just kill themselves and leave the rest of us alone.

Sigh...: I will take the freaky mostly harmless religions anyday...thank you.

It's not possible to drive through Clearwater, Florida and come away with the impression that Scientologists are "mostly harmless."

FTA;
"Americans today are also more likely than not to believe that Islam encourages violence, at least in comparison to other religions around the world."

...leads me to wonder how they framed the questions they asked those 899 people they surveyed.

This HAS to be proof that there is a poll to prove just about anything. I am no proponent of Scientology...but FARK me Blind! Islam is to America what democracy is to the Middle East...a totally foreign concept. Whereas, the average non-christian American virtually WORSHIPS science (actually we worship the dollar...but I digress) and loves science fiction. A religion started by a science fiction writer should be able to at least get a foothold here. But ISLAM?!

griz212: Islam is to America what democracy is to the Middle East

You do realize that a major reason for the foundation of the United States was freedom of religion, don't you?

Scientology isn't a religion. It's a scam. And it kills people.

2006-06-02 05:07:08 PM
Too bad it wasn't a comparison between ham and apples. Would have made a lot more sense.

Not too many Aztecs running around, I bet. Huitzilopochtli and Quetzalcoatl laugh at your modern, peaceful religions.

untrustworthy...
Yes...I realize the principle of freedom of religion is taught here...but these are two religions. This is not about that principle but an assessment of a comparative religions study and whether that assessment is accurate.

griz212: This is not about that principle but an assessment of a comparative religions study and whether that assessment is accurate.

Well, I'd venture that there are a lot more Muslims in America than Scientologists. Plus, Islam shares a lot of their beliefs and history with Christianity.

Even so, Islam still scored higher than Scientology. You need to read past the first paragraph.

Wait a minute. Since when did it become Freedom OF Religion? I was always under the impression that it was Freedom FROM Religion.
The showing of the Ten Commandments goes against my constatutional rights to never come in contact with anything religous.

Even poor people can belong to Islam. Oh, and Scientology isn't a religion, it is a tax dodge and a cult of the wealthy. L.Ron Hubbard is burning in an Islamic hell as we speak!

/Has anyone figured out who the father of Katy Holmes' baby is yet??

Occams_Electric_Razor It's not possible to drive through Clearwater, Florida and come away with the impression that Scientologists are "mostly harmless."

I would attribute that to Florida in general...but anyway...

The death of a Scientology lunatic or two because of their own stupidity at believing that load of hooey in the first place is far different than blowing up members of your own, and any other religious group to achieve immortal glory in a virgin soaked afterlife.

Note, I didn't say they are "completely harmless" M-kay?

Jarrett Let's be fair. All religions were founded by fiction writers.

Can I get an Amen!
