"Carrie Hugus, a spokeswoman, stupid biatch and official 'busy-body' for the 25,000-home Highlands Ranch Nazi Party, said they're asking homeowners to be as much of an unreasonable, self-important stuck up old sponge headed biddy as she is."

What is the deal with these neighborhood associations anyway? Every single one I've read about seems to be headed by wealthy, nosey, stick-in-the-bum housewives with too much time and too few smarts. My God people, here we are in an endless war with terrorists ready to blow apart some city in a nuclear holocaust and we're worried about green grass! And George W. says we're a patient, compassionate nation? Where's the evidence? Good freakin' Lord can Americans get any dumber?

My God, people. Don't worry about domestic violence, or the education problem or anything like that. The lawn must look nice. Aesthetics is what will make the world better. Assholes.

Well, I live in a relatively poor neighborhood, and I got a nasty letter for leaving my trash can by the curb for too long. Apparently, I must have it out there on Sunday night, and have it off by 5 pm Monday, but I left it there until Tuesday afternoon once. Though this was a city ordinance, and mentioned a possible court summons if I did it again! Too bad they didn't tell me about it ahead of time.

Thank you for the info, I for one will be emailing this group, if nothing else, to let them know what kind of an idiot they have running their homeowner's assoc. and the bad press they are generating.

"Heads will roll"

To said homeowners: Plant grass that doesn't require a river to keep it green. Buffalo Grass might be a consideration.

ARGH. I hate homeowners associations. A friend of mines baby had cancer. She was in the hospital with him for weeks on end, and when he wasn't working, her husband was either at the hospital or taking care of their other kid. Well, some idiot on their home owners association started harassing them about a spec of paint that was peeling above their door. She had the BALLS to send my friend a letter that said something to the effect of, "We know your kid is sick but that doesn't excuse you from taking care of your house." Luckily the crazy biatch got removed from the home owners assn. board for it. (And the kid recovered and they moved away from that awful place.) But it still tears me that someone could do that.

makes me want to vomit.

The sprawl will kill us all.
That is all.

2002-06-15 02:07:50 PM
I can't stand those kind of things. I realize that people want to protect their property value, but they always seem to over do it.

It's really bad here, because there's also a city association that thinks it's a government. A buddy of mine had to get approval from his condo assocation for the tile he chose for his kitchen floor. Ridiculous.

Betcha' they're all conservative Republicans.

Ducks.

Runs.

Ouch.

Management Specialists also manage our HOA in Westminster. They ARE a bunch of assclowns. Our streets never get plowed. I think they did it all of one time last winter. They should be more concerned about the kids chucking rocks at each other and tearing down the trees than about how green people's lawns are.

2002-06-15 02:25:49 PM
Thats stupid where you need to get permission to modify something on your own property, even more.. on the inside of your house... I wanted to put a patio in my back yard... our nazi home owners group said no..

2002-06-15 02:28:18 PM
well there is very few protections from these homeowner ASSociations.

fellas have told me they got $50 fines for leaving garage doors open or for leaving pickups parked in driveways (apparently they're unsightly, like dying grass)

Suburban landscaping is very souless. And I ahve made money creating it, how's that for hypocrit?

The good news in all this is apparently ENOUGH PEOPLE NOT WATERING THEIR LAWNS to panic the homeowner's ASS'n. There is still hope for the human race

Why do people buy property where there are homeowner associations with rules like this? Don't buy there if you don't like the rules.

2002-06-15 02:44:12 PM
Let's have our next FARK party there! We can all drink a lot of beer and then help them out by watering their lawns!

2002-06-15 02:44:17 PM
White people are so embarassing sometimes.. Can't trust them with authority.

2002-06-15 02:49:28 PM
That's what you get for living in some farking sub-division.

Evil. Soulless. Sub-division!!

To boot, the sprawl in Highland's Ranch has grown so much, that these people use enough water on their lawns to raise the average relative humidity for the Denver metro area by ~10%!! You'd think the water shortage and the fire burning in their back yard would warrant letting the grass get a little brown.... I think Quickl summed it up nicely:

Assclowns.

This is a desert! What did they think was going to happen when they ripped out the indiginous flora and replaced it with grass engineered for wetter climates?? To boot, they're cookie-cutter, crammed-together houses, and no matter how green the grass is, it'll STILL be ugly.

I'd better apply a fresh coat of paint to my soapbox; seems
I've had it out far too often lately. We're all going to hell in a handbasket, and people worry about having a green lawn!!

The only reason my lawn still green is because I let the indiginous flora rule, and what's left of the grass is 6" tall (man, I love the Denver directive "Don't mow, let it grow!" they've instituted to save water.) Oh, and I don't park my car on my lawn like my neighbors.

2002-06-15 02:57:33 PM
SpaceCoyote, you just made my day! That's a quotable quote I'm filing away for future use!

2002-06-15 03:02:33 PM
Screw Home Owners Associations......I'll cement over my lawn, paint it brown. It will go well with my multi-colored cluster of satellite dishes and giant rotating evil clown statue.

2002-06-15 03:15:48 PM
I have to say I just moved to Colorado, and generaly speaking the people are not too bright,. I think it has to due with a lack of oxygen due to the altitude.....

2002-06-15 03:46:08 PM
These farking homeowners associations bite my ass...the one in highlands ranch is notoriously retarded. checkthis for a look into the mind of a "covenant cop". sad, white bread, souless, lemming morons.

2002-06-15 04:16:05 PM
I own a townhouse and I actually LIKE my homeowners association. THEY take care of the grass and watering and lawn care, they take care of my gutters and roof, they pay for water and trash pickup. Basically, they leave me alone and I leave them alone. The few times I have had problems, they were out the next day taking care of things. I guess my association is one of the few good ones (if there is such a thing).

2002-06-15 04:47:32 PM
From the viewpoint of someone whose family lives in Highlands Ranch, someone who lived there for about six years before I came up here for school...

...believe everything you hear. It's something close to hell on earth, so far as neighborhoods go.

There are hardly any trees, first of all, but my friend was forced to cut down the one in her backyard because a neighbor complained that it was somehow unaesthetic. Apparently some of the boughs were extending over the fence, but god forbid the bare landscape of Highlands Ranch be mangled in any way. My parents cannot leave the garage open for extended periods of time, they cannot park on the curbs, they cannot paint the house any color other than tan, washed-out blue, or white. The grass has to be a certain, exacting height. Like Tabian said, you have to get permission to modify something on your own property. The Nazis come by every so often and remind my parents to paint the house (when it looks fine) or the fence.

I despise that town and intend to go back as little as possible. And that is all.

Devotchka's right. It's like a scene out of Edward Scissorhands but worse. No trees, all the houses look the same, no personality, no nothing.

I read an article where a HR guy planted native grasses in his lawn and they got on him for it not being green. When these grasses green up later and stay green longer than other grasses.

Farking morons and the farking WASPs that tend to live there.

Thank god I live in Denver proper.

2002-06-15 07:00:25 PM
I will agree that homeowners associations tend to attract power-hungry anal retentives with too much time on their hands. And there's no excuse for the stupidity mentioned in the article.

However, in response to some of the posts trashing HOAs in general, my opinion is that I'd rather have one that tries to do too much than one that does nothing. Every potential homeowner is given a copy of the HOA's rules before they buy - if you don't like it, don't buy. I've gotten letters over the years because my garbage cans didn't get hidden soon enough, or my grass wasn't edged "crisply enough." But I prefer that to having a neighbor who has relatives living in an RV in his front yard, or a neighbor who has junk cars lined up and down the street because he does bodywork and auto painting in his garage, or a neighbor whose 6 dogs are always outside barking at 2 a.m. Believe me - I've lived next to all of them.

*goes outside to cut grass, thinking "must remember to edge" this time!*

This whole discussion makes me want to retire to a farmhouse at the end of an obscure dirt road, with jus' my shotgun, dawg, and woman for company

2002-06-15 09:02:18 PM
The housing inspectors where I live are assholes. It has gotten to the point where they have threatened to evict me because my grass is too high. That's strange, because I cut my grass every week.

The real reason behind the harassment is that I have an interracial marriage, which doesn't sit too well with the rednecks and the one token Negro family that 'knows their place.' I've made numerous complaints to Navy housing and to the police, but it's all whispery-whispery shiat, so it's nothing I can prove.

To combat it, I've put up a website (http://chasnhousing.topcities.com/) and post pictures of my grass every day. I have the web address posted on my mailbox with a little sign that says, "I'm watching you." fark with me now, motherfarkers. I only have another 8 months to live here, then I'm gone from Redneck Purgatory.

2002-06-15 09:19:37 PM
Don't you fools understand!?!? If we don't have lush green lawns then the terrorists have won!

2002-06-15 10:57:08 PM
I for one am going to order the Highlands Ranch HOA a pair of pink lawn flamingos from www.mcphee.com

I am sure they will all have expressions on their faces like they are smelling farts. Bwahahahahahah

I like living in the Ken Caryl Ranch area. The homeowner groups out here aren't that bad at all, judging from some of the ugly ass-colors of houses in some places.

2002-06-16 08:17:59 PM
I say we throw a party in this neighborhood and invite nothing but bums, vagrants, crack addicts and hookers. Bus 'em in, drop 'em off, leave, go home, pop open a beer and turn on the news.

2002-06-17 08:48:05 PM
Those farking homeowner asses are a bunch of stuffy, conceited, pompous rich snobs with nothing better to do with their farking time than to gripe at their neighbors for the lamest reasons possible...they ought to mind their own farking business!!!

Those people ought to be worried about if they will end up losing their homes/families/friends to that awful fire, instead of spazzing over their lawns being brown...shiat...those lawns will be BLACK...forget the brown...if the fire gets to them!!!!

I am originally from Colorado, saddened by the fires there...especially the one in Glenwood Springs since that is where I grew up and have many friends there still. That farking biatch who started the fire near Denver...she ought to be locked up allright...and never released for her stupidity!!!
