About farking time

It's good to see Konstantinov is a lot better.

2002-06-14 10:53:41 AM
Also, way to go for Lidstrom winning the Conn Smythe, first European to get the honor. Rare for a defensemen as well.

Sign Garen, Daflop, Kaspar!
BK is a dickanus!

2002-06-14 10:54:11 AM
How does it belong in Toronto? They got biatch slapped by the canes.
The Canes should change their names
to the Carolina Canada Killers.

2002-06-14 10:54:12 AM
WinnipegDragon: Actually, Detroit is north of some parts of Canada.

2002-06-14 10:54:35 AM
The Omen, I agree, except for having the Red Wings.

2002-06-14 10:55:09 AM
And to those who don't like/don't know hockey, why are you posting in here? You don't see me going into the 'seventeen Brazilian homos have a big ass orgy for kicking a ball into a net' threads and talking about how I hate soccer.

2002-06-14 10:55:16 AM
Hey Frolixo you still have the list of farkers who said the Wings were gonna get swept in the first round?

2002-06-14 10:55:41 AM
And as a long time LA Kings fan, congratulations to Luuuuuuke Robataille. He is just one of those classy players that deserves the cup.

Agreed. Former Ranger too. ;)

Holy carp Stompn_Tom - I did not notice that. I have not seen them in ages. Squeak, squeak, squeak.

Do they still make them?

2002-06-14 10:57:15 AM
Ohhh it's so stupid! They just bought a bunch of players just for the purpose of winning! That's so...! Wait....no, nevermind, that's what every single professional sports team does.

2002-06-14 10:57:17 AM
Awesome pic, Frolixo. I was chokin' when they let him hold it. Reminds me of '98.

ClownCollegeGraduate, I noticed you are European. I must please ask you to leave this thread and return to the soccer thread 2 posts down. Thank you.

Palexc Melrose only if he promises to regrow his mullet.

2002-06-14 10:57:59 AM
KevinofOz: Hull's Mother is American, father (obviously) Canadian. He got to choose who to play for. When Canada turned him away, he just said, "Fine".

2002-06-14 10:58:23 AM
Funkychuck Because its fun to watch you get your panties in a bunch over something as unimportant as hockey.

Stompn_Tom--thanks for explanation...really didn't know that much about him other than we celebrated that "non-goal" a bunch here.

:)

ArmyOfFun, looking for it, but I think I remember thier names...

Good for Dom. On his way out of Buffalo he bad mouthed the Sabre's for bad management (now the Sabre's are $150MM in debt and tied up in Adelphia's bankrupcy, all due to Rigas' corrupt management). Then he donated big money to build a couple rinks for the local kids.

Amen brother, amen. Nothing south of the border will EVER be 'Hockeytown'.

Eh. Fortunately Detroit is actually NORTH of Canada; look.

2002-06-14 11:00:03 AM
I'm hoping Yzerman will be ok. He's finally getting surgery for that knee, and he'll be out at least 6 months after that. Maybe he'll pull a Forsberg next year.

I'm also pissed that Bowman is retiring. He's the bestest coach ever :(

2002-06-14 11:00:34 AM
Oh well, It was cool at least to have a final in Raleigh.

2002-06-14 11:00:37 AM
GO REDWINGS!!

ShlabotnikIt's not that I'm getting my panties in a bunch, but as a longtime Wings fan, I'm hoping to use this thread to communicate with fellow Wings fans and pretty much rejoice in the awesomeness that was this past season. To have that marred by somebody from East Backassvania who's never heard of hockey in his third world life or some EverQuest Mage +5 who doesn't watch anything on TV that doesn't have spaceships who just wants to say 'I hate hockey' or 'In my country we only have football and executions' kinda irks me.

I get so irritted at people who say that Detroit bought the cup. Many teams pay more than Detroit does and they do much worse. We had the best coach in hockey ever, people like Steve Yzerman, Sergei Federov, Darren McCarty, Kris Draper and scores of other Red Wings stick with the team for years and play their hardest during the playoffs. That's why we have won the cup three times in six years.

Carolina was a horrible, boring team that should have never made it to the finals. They were essentially washed up players from the failed (and equally boring) Florida Panthers team who lost miserably to Colorado.

Say what you want about Brett Hull, he had the best quote I have heard in ages, "I would rather be old and smart than young and dumb." That about summed up the finals this year...

2002-06-14 11:03:23 AM
CMcG: And it was a much better final then I think any thought it would be.

Well, anyone outside of Raleigh.

2002-06-14 11:04:18 AM
I will give the canes credit for getting to the finals, and they did push the Wings to make them earn the cup. After all, Detroit did what both Montreal and Toronto couldnt do. Beat the canes at their own game.

Give it up to the Best team in the Greatest game (hockey) that has ever been played, and to the Greatest Coach of all time.

My toast goes to the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Redwings. Welcoming the Stanley Cup back where it belongs in HOCKEYTOWN.

43%: If you could actually find one of those shirts, it'd be kinda neat to own.

What was up with Al Michaels calling Raliegh, Roleigh.
Learn how to talk man.

I totally agree. Look at the Rangers.

Whaa? from the Florida Panthers?

Shows how much you know about the horrible, boring Eastern Conference Champions.

you are funny Funkychuck - I'm a lifelong Red Sox fan so I'm actually jealous. Flame away.

P.S. I like executions.

shiat, cleaned my out revenge records a month ago, but I do remember that Tucci was spouting "Canuaks in 4", and posting Canadian flags.
It matters not, victory as been attained.

Detroit == teh sux

Go to Detroit, wear a "Red Wings suck" t-shirt, and put me in your will

Oh, and Thanks a LOT for Kid Rock.

To all of those who believe that the Wings "Bought" this cup...

1) the only players brought in for the cup run were Hasek and Robi. You could say Hull I guess but the team he wanted to stay with didnt want him. He went to the Wings to "throw a wrench into the Stars' plans"

2) Anyone check out the Rangers' payroll the last five years? I'll give you a hint: It is the largest in Hockey, keeps going up and they still miss the playoffs.

3) Yzerman, Lidstrom, Shanny, Larionov, the entire Grind Line, Fedorov and several others are veterans who have been with the Wings for some time now.

4) Watch for Datsyuk, Fischer, Williams, Deveroux and all the other young players they are bringing up in that organization...they will be around for quite some time.

Oh wait...I just thought about Slegr...that must be why the whiners are saying that the Wings bought the cup...Say what you want, but they didn't win the cup until good ol Jiri laced em up last night.

I'm glad to see the Wings win...hopefully whoever they hire to coach will be an interim thing until Stevie Y retires and takes over that team for another 20 years.

Cunnelatio don't you mean:
Go to Detroit, and put me in your will

2002-06-14 11:10:14 AM
Simpman76: THANK YOU for pointing that out. It made my hair stand on end every time he said that.

2002-06-14 11:10:34 AM
Enjoy it now Wings fans, because once all the members of the Wings 30+ club start retiring in a year or two, there will be some dark days ahead.

Oh, and Hull said the reason he plays for the US is because he was cut from a Canadian junior team or something, as someone mentioned.

2002-06-14 11:10:41 AM
As a transplant (born in Detroit, raised in Columbus) I'm kinda pissed. Hartford almost came to Columbus instead of Raliegh, but we didn't have an arena. To have my two teams fighting it out in the finals would have been awesome.

Either that or I would have kicked my own ass.

2002-06-14 11:11:07 AM
Cunnelatio: I'll go where I want and wear whatever I want. You'll want to be in the will of anyone that looks at me cock-eyed.

Um, Chelios? That makes it 4.

Being a Ranger fan, your second point is your strongest argument.

2002-06-14 11:13:01 AM
But the burning question is: will Mike Illitch's limo driver get his name on the cup?

2002-06-14 11:13:06 AM
People who play a game in my state have won that game. My life is so much more meaningful now. If the Detroit Wiffle ball team ever wins a national competition my life will be even better. I will be able to brag to people I dont know that people who I have never met but are from my state have excelled at playing a game.

2002-06-14 11:13:12 AM
Those who show their utter ignorance by insulting the game of hockey can kindly lick my arse and show some respect, or risk being inundated with "hockey is the fastest, toughest game there is" comments.
