if you could pick just about any used car for your birthday...

The real story here is obvious. its about a 1992 Subaru Legacy with some damage picked up along the way.

Good Job. I'm just as shocked I got the first Colbert reference in a bear thread

Both doors pitted with big dents that look like, well, a 200-pound wild animal ran head first into it, collected himself and scampered into the woods for a few hundred yards before clearing a fence.

Wow, that is one descriptive dent.

The checklist of things to do that day consisted of three tasks: Get the Subaru smogged, insured and registered.

Hell yeah, I smogged out my first car as soon as I got it also.

. He helped cover the $2,000 price tag when the car was purchased from a family friend the night before.
...
The next day, on Friday, Cassy and her brother took the car to a repair shop for an estimate. The Subaru Legacy that cost $2,000 had $1,800 in damage. The insurance policy Cassy got for the car did not cover collisions, especially ones with a bear.

Looks like it's time to buy another car.

For now, Cassy said she'll keep the car, despite the 105,000 miles on the odometer, a couple of new shiners on its side and the windows being difficult (but not impossible) to roll down

Despite 105k miles? WTF is that. the farking coont should be happy she has (had) a car.
Oh wait its a shiatbox import, 100k miles is good for them

Your Subaru Legacy Awd gets 21.0 mpg. But if automakers put current technology
to work, you could get
33.0 mpg. That translates to savings for both your wallet and the planet:

Over a Year
Your Car Costs You
Your Costs if CAFE were Modernized
YOUR Potential Savings

Gasoline

595.2 gal
379.1 gal
216.1 gal

$
$1,786.00
$1,137.00
$649.00

Global Warming
Pollution

16,667 lbs
10,616 lbs
6,051 lbs

Over your car's lifetime (12 years on average), you'd save $7,788!

I have a Subaru Impreza with 130K on it, going strong, no major problems.

My neighbor had a Subaru legacy (a 89, I think it was) with 230,000 miles on it.

Subarus have very good engines in them. It's clear you speak from a plinth of retardation.

FARK POLLUTION!

You may think I'm foolish
For the foolish things I do
You may wonder how come I love you
When you get on my nerves like you do
Well baby you know you bug me
There ain't no secret 'bout that
Well come on over here and hug me
Baby I'll spill the facts
Well honey it ain't your money
'Cause baby I got plenty of that
I love you for your pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what you do there in back
Of your pink Cadillac
Pink Cadillac

Well now way back in the Bible
Temptations always come along
There's always somebody tempting
Somebody into doing something they know is wrong
Well they tempt you, man, with silver
And they tempt you, sir, with gold
And they tempt you with the pleasures
That the flesh does surely hold
They say Eve tempted Adam with an apple
But man I ain't going for that
I know it was her pink Cadillac
Crushed velvet seats
Riding in the back
Oozing down the street
Waving to the girls
Feeling out of sight
Spending all my money
On a Saturday night
Honey I just wonder what it feels like in the back
Of your pink Cadillac
Now some folks say it's too big
And uses too much gas
Some folks say it's too old
And that it goes too fast
But my love is bigger than a Honda
It's bigger than a Subaru
Hey man there's only one thing
And one car that will do
Anyway we don't have to drive it
Honey we can park it out in back
And have a party in your pink Cadillac

Damn, my toyota corolla has 195k, desert, mtn, and city driving, lol. Drives the grapevine all the time, lol.

Hmm, thinking about it all the toyotas my family has have over 100k on them... most the fords we had died before 90k... except our 88 F150. I currently know no one with a chevy over 100k, my uncle had a GM with like 120k, but it died... um... need I go on?

2006-05-26 11:06:57 PM
funny, on the Ford comment, i am interested why Ford mechanics dont drive Fords, especially the Deisel mechanics. As for a Subaru, 100k, the thing is "bearly" broke in!

Elvis_Bogart,

I don't really follow the American media-jazz, but that came up in another FARK thread and the whole promotion campaign for that slideshow/movie is going to be carbon neutral (if a flight releases xx lbs of carbon, they will buy carbon credits from companies removing carbon from the atmosphere eg a wind farm prevents coal from being used or maybe a company that uses CO2 absorbing paint)

RadioGuy2k, your either trolling or priding yourself in stupidity. Neither is flattering.

that site doesnt seem to manage to answer the obvious question . .. how exactly is it that mileage would be increased. What technology is it that is supposed to increase it? Hybrid technology? If so the number are misleading because I have to go and buy a new car, offsetting all of those savings. .

Not to mention I don't think a current hybrid engine will do what my car needs to do . . but I guess thats kind a special circumstance.

2006-05-26 11:10:10 PM
I actually saw that happen once. I watched a Black Bear run full-tilt head-first into the passenger door of an F-150 that was doing roughly 35mph. It caved the door in with its head, rolled a couple times, got up and ran away. I was only 50 feet away, wishing I had a camera...

/That's my story
//no heartwarming, paternal bonding, "special memories" sub-plot... just a bear running into the side of a truck...

2006-05-26 11:11:02 PM
Hey, I actually have my Suburu decked out with "SCART". My newfangled art form that uses hobby paint to keep the multiple scratches and dents that have gone straight through the paint from becoming cancers.

And no, it's not because the car had a shiatty paintjob. I park in South Philly. The hood is dented from an asshole SUV who backed into it (no card or anything.) The doors were keyed from when my wife worked a school teacher in West Philly. I took the paint off the roof luggin home fibre-composite siding without a horse blanket.

I know have to extend my "scartwork" to include a spot where a van door gouged the front corner panel and hood, and a spot on the passenger side where a rock tagged us.

Hobby paint and sandpaper. I tried the color match stuff, but it was basically green nail polish. It looked terrible.

BTW, I do believe most "Japanese import" cars are now made in the US.

Suburus are still manufactured in Japan by Fuji Heavy Industries. Toyota and Hondas are made side by side with GM's and Fords though. (And Lexi are just rebadged Toyotas.)

2006-05-26 11:13:23 PM
The old chevy work vans last forever. Any Toyota for the last 25 years could easily handle 200,000 km (~125k m). I have never seen a honda hatchback die from mechanical problems.

My first car was a '91 Subaru Legacy. There were times I wish it had a vagina, I loved it so much.

All-wheel drive, hill-holder clutch, heavier than most midsize SUVs, factory exhaust train until the day it died. Breaks siezed up & the repairs would have been more than the sale value.

They don't make cars like that anymore. So Sad.

What is it that your car needs to do?

If you need an SUV (to make up for a small dick) might I suggest the Ford escape hybrid.

If you need it for towing then maybe a Chevy Silverado Hybrid would do good for you. Or if you are a dodge lover wait a couple months and there will be one of those too.

For thousands of years bears have been crapping in our woods, and now they're going after our cars! The next thing you know, they'll be sleeping in our beds and eating our children. I for one think it's time we stood up to the liberal bear agenda once and for all!
