But theology aside, technology might prove a larger hurdle for Katz's group. However appealing the packaging, most of the thousands of Kiryas Joel households that got the "Days of Moshiach" DVD don't have televisions or computers on which to view it.

A little problem with the follow-through on that marketing strategy, I'd say.

It turns out the video was not a Shabbos greeting, but the sophisticated product of the Jews for Jesus Christians who Keep Kosher organization and other evangelical Christians

/fixed that for them

Jews for Jesus realy irritate the fark out of me. They really, really do.

So many jews died because they refuse to become idolaters at the hand of christians and worship yeshua, now these turncoats are not only worshipping him, but using deceptive propaganda to try and "convert" other jews

This is low and disgusting.

Tatsuma: They can go lower.

Take this little local gem of an attraction here in Orlando. It's a Holy Land-themed attraction (article is a bit dated).

Since they've opened they've managed to get a property tax exemption, even though they're not a church. Or even (officially) represent a singular religion. But the reality is it's the Evangelical Jews.

I'd really like to go and see what they've done with the Scriptorium and Kumran Caves since it's opened. But I flat out refuse to give them a cent. Especially since I'm paying their property taxes. And a prime piece of Orlando real estate to boot.

2006-05-18 10:39:19 AM
That sucks, I had heard about it but all I knew was "It's a recreation of the Second Temple" and I thought "Awesome, I might check that out one day"

Evangelical jews? They'll never get a single penny from my pockets

Now this pisses me off on two levels, on a fiscal and religious level.

No, really, evangelical jews for jesus and christians trying to convert jews really really piss me off.

Jews for Jesus and other Messianic Jews movements are supported by the Christian churches of the evangelical nature

Tatsuma: while eating pork with a small mustache and a german accent

Y'know, it's a crying shame that the Chaplain moustache was co-opted by that guy. I mean, you look at the old Charlie Chaplain movies...that moustache was half the reason he was so funny.

Good gravy.

One of the greats thing about the Jews is they don't proslytize like every other damn religion.

I don't connsider Jews for Jesus Jews, either.

Did the outside of the envelope have Ed McMahon's picture and the phrase, "YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE WON ETERNAL LIFE!"?

80,0000?

That shiate is seriously farked up. I can't believe they are using an AOL marketing campaign to try and convert people.

2006-05-18 03:10:39 PM
Why is it considered asinine that people promote their religion? They do it in plain English all the time.

Just when I'm ready to cancel my subscription to the local paper, I get a gem like this!

Mr. Clarence Butterworth: Good gravy.

One of the greats thing about the Jews is they don't proslytize like every other damn religion.

exactly, we're leaving everyone alone and we'd love to be left alone.

I don't connsider Jews for Jesus Jews, either.

no one likes them, but jews for jesus members.

They are like the Popular Front of Judea *spits*

2006-05-18 03:13:07 PM
i like it. when some religious idiots spend money in an ineffectual way, it means they *arent* spending it in africa, eastern europe, mississippi, or elsewhere that their idiocy won't take generations and billions of dollars of education to undo.

2006-05-18 03:13:11 PM
Diogenes: that attraction that you are tlaking about is called the Holy Land Experience and it is probably going to go out of business fairly soon. Mostly because they are charging ridiculous prices for admission (about $40 i think) and, as you mentioned, its in a really good location so I think someone will buy them out.

/serves them right
//that place pisses me off everytime i go to the mall

It's the methods they choose that make it asinine.

Why is it considered asinine that people promote their religion?

Being an Orthodox Jew is not something people do just casually. Don't you suppose they might already have strong opinions about religion? If they wanted to be something other than Orthodox, they probably would be by now. So unrequested prosletysing is simply not appropriate behaviour.

/Wonders why evangelicals of all stripes seem to think they have the right to my time.
//Also thinks anyone imitating AOL in any way is automatically asinine.

I have met Steve Katz from Jews for Jesus (they came to my church years ago). The guy I was dating at the time was half-Jewish and very intrigued. Very good information.

Newsflash...it is called MESSIANIC JUDAISM

Messianic Judaism is a religious movement, composed of faith groups that are mainly attended by ethnic/cultural Jews. They differ from Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews over their beliefs about the Messiah. Most Jews believe that the Messiah has yet to come; Messianic Jews believe that Yeshua of Nazareth was the expected Messiah. (Yeshua is called Jesus Christ by Christians.)

*When I receive mail I don't want, I just disregards it. No problem.

Those "Jews for Jesus" people ought to be ashamed of themselves for trying to promote their beliefs onto another group in a legal, creative, and non-confrontational manner.

Don't they know that this is America, the land of shoot-first-and-look-for-the-WMDs-later?!?

BIG difference between teaching people about your religion if they do not believe in a g-d, or if they have not considered something beyond themselves, and saying "Your religion is teh suX0r and you're going to hell forever unless you join OUR merciful gawd."

2006-05-18 03:19:23 PM
Yiddish and English newspapers serving the Orthodox communities are blasting angry warnings about the DVD, described by the weekly Monsey Advocate as a "virulent piece of missionary propaganda."

"It is suspected that this is the beginning of a wider assault aimed at entrapping the Yiddish-speaking public, particularly innocent children," the newspaper declared.

I think the DVD was a waste, and an overall mistake. But this guy is overreacting just a tad.

Kiryas Joel - The DVD that came in the mail Saturday certainly looked enticing for Orthodox Jewish families.

It came in the mail on Saturday? Thats not kosher.

They differ from Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Ultra-Orthodox Jews over their beliefs about the Messiah.

Yes, they're called Christians by those groups.

Tatsuma

Jews for Jesus realy irritate the fark out of me. They really, really do.

The few times I've encountered them I've told them I'm a member of Christians Against Christ, a group that doesn't believe he was the Messiah but call ourselves Christians anyway.

The recipients of these pieces of subterfuge should drop them in their local mail box. They'll try to deliver them a few more times before it goes to dead letter or is returned.

Isn't there a very specific order of events that are supposed to occur when the messiah arrives (according to the Jewish faith)?

If none of it has happened, how does this "movement" exist? Where are they getting this belief?
