What is this? Free greenlight day?

Anyway, it doesn't matter. People will still go to see it because of the book, and the movie will turn a profit. Thus the cycle of crap is completed.

2006-05-17 01:22:49 PM
Catholics need a new hobby.

2006-05-17 01:31:21 PM
I was raised catholic. I live in the most catholic city in America. In know hundreds of catholics. I don't know a *single* person who's even vaguely concerned about this movie.

2006-05-17 01:33:01 PM
I'm still going to see it, the book sucked, but the story was pretty good. (I hope that makes sense)

2006-05-17 01:36:25 PM
Suck it, makers of shiat movies and novels.

2006-05-17 01:55:40 PM
Man, the papists are lovin' this. There'a a Catholic bookstore on King Street in Alexandria VA. Half the books in the window are tied to the movie somehow. "Decoding Mary Magdalene", "The Code of the Templars", etc.

$ch-ching$

The Catholic League can go f*ck itself.

HA! HA!

Free advertising for a crappy movie!

2006-05-17 02:08:59 PM
I wonder if I can set up a temporary booth to sell giant foam "Jesus #1" novelty hands at the local theater, this is the best news since The Passion of the Christ did well at the box offices.

2006-05-17 02:37:46 PM
The book was fun in a sort of Michael Crichton way (except without the craptacular ending).

My church is spending the next two Sundays "debunking" the book. Should be a fun time.

I would just like to say "ditto" to this comment. Seriously, I know a lot of Catholics who just hope the movie is as entertaining as the COMPLETELY FICTIONAL BOOK they enjoyed so much.

[BTW, KS, that is a great movie pic in your profile. I haven't seen that in years.]

2006-05-17 03:06:39 PM
Heh. Rotten Tomatoes reading: zero percent.

2006-05-17 03:15:06 PM
I was raised catholic but got better.

I'm reading the book right now and find it an enjoyable read. I haven't heard any thing from my own insanely catholic family.

No one better spoil the ending in this thread. I am planning to see the movie. Just my own way to get back at the 12 years of religion classes that I hated.

Ok submitter you get points for remembering Ishtar. I still remember seeing Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman astride a camel.

That's how I'll remember them, too.

2006-05-17 04:01:16 PM
Just because you dont think this is a good movie, does not mean Jesus was a god.

Seems like Dan Brown can find more evidence for his book than the catholics can that Jesus ever walked the earth (outside of the bible).

KazamaSmokers: I don't know a *single* person who's even vaguely concerned about this movie.

I don't know that many Catholics, but I have seen a couple of Catholic blogs (I go there for kicks sometimes), and they're pretty exercised about it. Of course, bloggers tend to be more excitable, so maybe that's the difference.

Tom Hanks and Peter Scloari dress up as women, and there is like a laugh every 30 seconds.

Cthulhu demands a movie like this. More people need to feel the love he brings.

Ishtar was the bomb, YO!

2006-05-17 04:02:51 PM
Give me a break. It's a M-O-V-I-E!
M-O-V-I-E, you know, the things that Hollywood usually release strait to DVD lately?

2006-05-17 04:03:30 PM
While I enjoy anything that makes any antiquated monstrosity like the Catholic Church tremble and cry like babies, this was a very poorly written book.

Hellboy?

I liked Ishtar.

2006-05-17 04:04:39 PM
I had no desire to see this movie until the church starging griping and moaning about it.

Actually, I still have no desire to see it. Oh well.

Mercutio879: I'm still going to see it, the book sucked, but the story was pretty good. (I hope that makes sense)

Bad writing + great plot and ideas. I agree.

Haven't read the book, won't see the movie but I'm glad as a hen in a bucket of worms that the Catholics are annoyed. But in my area its the Baptists that have the shorts in a bunch about this. Any rational discussion that doesn't begin with the statement "during the 1,000 years of the dark ages most of the information from the previous century was lost but then made up by the Christians in the 1500's."

While the book is fiction, it is nowhere near the quality of fiction found in the bible.

You watch the whole movie without realizing that he's actually dead!

Faux news says it wasnt any good, that no one is going to like it.
So now I'm not going to see it.

I will definitely see the movie. Not because of Tom Hanks or the hotty Amelie girl, but because Ron Howard is one of my favorite directors.

2006-05-17 04:13:08 PM
Dan Brown sleeps on a pile of money with many beautiful women.

/Enjoyed the book, but wouldn't consider it "good."
//Enjoyed "Dude, where's my car" but wouldn't consider it "good."
///Probably won't go see the movie, but probably will watch the DVD.

Cupajo

Well going against my better judgment that you are just trolling and I'm about to bite I still have to raise the question. Cupajo have you even been to a Catholic Mass?

When even Chinese Movie Pirates refuse to tape the movie and release it on the Internet in DIVX format, you know that the movie is going to be a bomb.

Go watch the X-Men 3 movie instead, it is more entertaining and truthful about Jesus than the Da Vinci Code will ever hope to be. Just ask Nightcrawler, he knows all about Jesus.

Oh yeah, chances are that despite doing badly at the box office, Hollywood types that are Anti-Religion will try to give the Da Vinci Code movie an academy award. The same ones that snubbed The Passion of the Christ, and tried to get Brokeback Mountain awarded but had to chance it to second place when the scam was discovered.

2006-05-17 04:18:47 PM
You know a book sucks when one of the characters has the name Sir Leigh Teabing... I'll give you a Surly Teabag.

Not to mention I just found out Sir Leigh Teabing doesn't even EXIST! And Tom Hanks isn't really a professor of Art History! The hits to this movie's credibility just keep coming.

2006-05-17 04:20:21 PM
Since God doesn't exist, what is all the fuss about?

LOL, I hope you are trolling, but don't think you are. Either way, this was (intentionally or unintentionally) funny. Thank you.

2006-05-17 04:23:59 PM
What amazes me is that there are actually some people that take the book (which identifies itself as a novel and fiction) seriously. I actually had someone ask me why I didn't tell them that Jesus was married.

Whether you believe he existed or not, at least try to understand what "fiction" means.

Mr. Clarence Butterworth

"Bill Donahue can go fark a duck."

Man, makes you want to burn a cross on his lawn!

2006-05-17 04:24:34 PM
Most of the movies released these days are pure shiat IMHO. I imagine DVC will be better than average simply because average is so farking bad.

I guess their point is that it's evil because it's badly done? Um... wtf?

2006-05-17 04:24:58 PM
Wow..batshiat christians sure do seem to have a bee in their bonnet for this movie.

Even though the BIBLE is one of the most notorious works of fiction ever written.

Hey guys, we're missing what's REALLY important here! That something has to knock Tom Cruise off the number one spot and give him less money to give to scientology!

I'd go see Glitter if it would piss off Tom Cruise.
