Bet the music review section will be a tad biased this go round

And I'll be he still hasn't found what he's looking for.

Not to be outdone another British newspaper appoints a bonobo as editor (pops)

Maybe we'll luck out and he can write his own obituary.

...while U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice offered her 10 favorite pieces of music.

Thanks for that, Bono.

Why doesn't he try giving some of his piles of cash to help poor people. All he needs to do is buy less hats and sunglasses and with the money he could feed thousands.

/Hate bloody pop stars who sit on piles of our cash then try and make us give away more of our cash whilst wiping their arses with gold bricks.

Let the Liberal Orgy of hatin' on America begin. This guy is a total asshat.

2006-05-16 10:04:34 AM
I like most your music (except that crap called 'Achtung Baby'), appreciate your humanitarian efforts in Africa, but lose the sunglasses, already, Paul.

Submitter let me correct your typo:

Great headline, submitter.

Agree with malcy. Bono is somewhere enjoying the scent of his own flatulence.

I am reminded of a statement John Lennon had apparently made about being able to feed a thousand people with lentils for the price of feeding six people with filet mignon. Maybe Yoko farking Ono could use some of the milk from the everflowing teat of Lennon's efforts to make the world a better place. Freakin' talent-free parasite...

Oh wait, it's ok, they're Republicans!

Why doesn't he try giving some of his piles of cash to help poor people. All he needs to do is buy less hats and sunglasses and with the money he could feed thousands.

Actually he does. He gives enormous amounts and personally bankrolls the organizations he starts (which are among the most well funded and effective). And he works with the Gates Foundation which does the same.

He's done far, far more than you have.

2006-05-16 10:11:38 AM
Damn. Lotta haters. Say what you will about his music, but he's one of the very, very few celebrities who has taken the time and learned about the causes that he is championing. Check into what the guy has done and is working on. I don't believe in all of his politics, but he's made some good arguments.

I hate it when folks use their celebrity to mouth off, but there's an exception to every rule. Oh, and he has donated piles and piles of his own cash to these causes.

The guy's doing amazing work and he's got the ability to get very disperate people together. Not a whole lot of hate from those in the know. He puts his time, money, and influence where his mouth is and I respect the hell out of him for it - even if I am not in step with many of his causes.

Dialectic: Let the Liberal Orgy of hatin' on America begin. This guy is a total asshat.

Dunno if yours is a troll or not, but yeah... I think it was right after the time Bill Gates donated a billion+ USD of his own, Bono came up and said "Yeah, a billion is great, but for just one billion more, we could completely wipe out scurvy in Africa!" (or some other disease, I forgot)

/ now the Left can really jump in here 'cause everyone knows the Iraq war is costing a billion bucks a nano-second

Bono came up and said "Yeah, a billion is great, but for just one billion more, we could completely wipe out scurvy in Africa!" (or some other disease, I forgot)

The interesting thing is, his organizations (as well as the Gates) uses statistics and analysis to determine what is needed, how, where, whats the most effective. Then he takes these hard figures and knowledge to corporations, governments, people who want to see that kind of thing and uses it to persuade them to help. And you know what? It works. He's not out spouting empty platitudes, he's got numbers to back him up.

TheDirtyNacho: He's done far, far more than you have.

Well fark me for not having millions in the bank to hand out.

Still reckon he could buy less hats and sunglasses and feed people instead if he's that committed.

Why not give away 90% of his millions ? How much does he need to live on ? 1 million, 10 million ?

2006-05-16 10:28:02 AM
I don't disagree with bono nearly as much as he just GETS ON MY NERVES! He is probably the only rockstar type guy ever who really and truly believes in his causes. For that he has my respect. But I still just want to strangle him. The delivery , I guess.

Boner?

perhaps Boner could sell his yacht, stop living in a tax haven, actually make some sacrifices and practice what he farking preaches.

TheDirtyNacho: He's done far, far more than you have

Proportionatly, all these millions are less than the pocket change and a cigarette I gave to the beggar on the street last friday.

I'd like to see Boner in my financial position before he preaches his hypocritcal, sanctimonious effluent-from-a-colonic-irrigation-session multi-millionaire "where the streets have no name- what the fark are you? a postman with the blues" load of betty swallocks. Boner.

Ok. I'll bite. I'd like to see some hard numbers on all the good work Bono has done. You can even include a margin of error for what the various govts/warlords have skimmed.

Listen- The only reason anyone has heard about this turd in the last ten years is due to white western guilt.

Maybe you wouldn't be in such a position if you weren't so bitter and unhappy.

These half-ass entertainers that luck out...gain some notoriety, and instantly become experts on everything make me sick. Bono should stay in Ireland and stay drunk.

2006-05-16 10:41:56 AM
Bono would most certainly suggest you play that "3rd World Farmer" game (previous thread). Then you'd feel bad about yourself and give money. You'll see.

/Scuse me while I starve my farmers.

Does that game involve the Eritrians? The most hardcore farmin' in a warzone thugz on the planet?

Im neither broke, nor lonely nor bitter.

I AM just your average Joe...

I AM enraged by the thundering hypocrisy of a multi- multi- multi- millionaire who lives on a yacht in tax haven telling ME to spend my money on some poor farking Africans....

Boner is a farking self-agrandising selfish tosspot and nothing more.

"The only reason anyone has heard about this turd in the last ten years is due to white western guilt."

Am I missing something? I don't feel guilty about a farkin' thing. Then again, I generally avoid actors, musicians, etc. who advance their pet causes instead of doing whatever they're paid to do.

2006-05-16 10:54:57 AM
Maybe BonoVox (latin for 'probably gay') should write a song in Swahili or whatever:

"If you have aids, don't have sex.
If you can't feed another mouth, don't have sex."

Instead of telling the working poor of America to finance irresponsible procreation.

When Bono says 'the government should pay' for this or that, it's YOUR tax dollars he's spending.

'You're responsible with your gametes, so you really ought to worsen the hunger/disease problem in Africa, or else you will never be as cool as me.'

Did I miss anything?

/partial sarcasm
//i don't have the answers for stoppiing the dying there, other than to stop procreating

Word up, elendilmir, my thuggin' an' muggin' gangsta! Those Eritreans would have the option of purchasing guns, and lots of them...

So it's safe to say the newspaper that day was tired, repetitive and still riding a wave of achievement that crested 17 years ago.

/The Joshua Tree was 20 years ago. let's recognize that, celebrate it and move on.

2006-05-16 11:04:34 AM
Good for Bono and everything he is trying to do. He could just sit and spend his money and time on himself like so many of you apparently want him to, but no, he works his tail off trying to make a difference.

cazz: These half-ass entertainers that luck out...gain some notoriety, and instantly become experts on everything make me sick. Bono should stay in Ireland and stay drunk.

This comment encapsulates PERFECTLY everything that is wrong with the current American mentality.

I don't understand why Bono gets so much shiat - U2 is not a band I'm into, and sure he's a little irksome at times...

But I'd rather our celebrities do this sort of thing than spend all their energy giving blowjobs and trying to score coke paris hilton stylee.

2006-05-16 11:06:42 AM
TheDirtyNacho: He's done far, far more than you have.

Indeed. Proportionality really doesn't matter to the people who are getting the help Bono pays for. Hey - maybe if it weren't for all the money U2's made over the years, they would be *out* of money by now. That wouldn't help anybody now, would it.

elendilmir: He is probably the only rockstar type guy ever who really and truly believes in his causes. For that he has my respect.

I think that's the main reason I'm *not* annoyed by Bono. Now, Michael Stipe on the other hand...

/Shiny happy people my ass :)

"Celebrity is ridiculous but it is currency and I want to spend mine wisely." he said.

I don't think this guy is stupid at all. Very perceptive. And he has chosen to do something, rather than sit back and do diddly-squat. I am surprised at the amount of hate.

2006-05-16 11:23:55 AM
I've said it before- I'll say it again:

U2 Sucks. Badly.

A Vacuum
The tide before a tsunami
Paris Hilton
Donald Trump's hair
U2

THINGS THAT SUCK!

So, after offering its readership lessons in Italian and daubing its front cover with 'challenging' headlines....

...the Independant has held its nose and descended the rest of the way into chattering-middle-class self-parody.

/If this is 'quality journalism' I'll take back the Sun, at least they dont have their heads stuck up their own smug, middle-class bum holes.
