i know some people who went to med school in mexico and if this kid gets in i'm gonna be bummed...

2006-05-15 10:13:13 PM
No. I don't want some sugar-high teenager operating on me. Go work at McDonalds or something.

/didn't RTFA

2006-05-15 10:13:29 PM
good for him!

2006-05-15 10:13:33 PM
I don't care if he has the level of knowledge of a 45 year old brain surgeon. At 6 you just don't have the maturity to practice medicine.

2006-05-15 10:13:45 PM
Umm, this is Mexico. You can get a degree from corner stores there.

2006-05-15 10:13:46 PM
Wait, so he'd be able to perscribe drugs, but not buy beer in the US? Huh.

Seriously, way to go, kid! Who needs a pesky childhood anyway? It's overrated.

Deigo Howsar

a PlayStation 2 and two hours of Baywatch should set him straight.

2006-05-15 10:17:10 PM
Prodigy brains don't work the same way childrens' brains usually do. I say judge him on his knowledge and aptitude. He may be more qualified than many 18-22 year olds who attempt medical school.

2006-05-15 10:17:37 PM
...has already been has been studying medicine on his own.

I too played doctor with the girl next door when I was six.

2006-05-15 10:20:07 PM
What happens when he starts noticing girls?

2006-05-15 10:20:09 PM
6 years old??? Give me a break - take a few years off and play some kickball or something...

2006-05-15 10:20:12 PM
Sigh. And all my son did by the time he was six was figure out two different ways to get his head stuck in a couch.

2006-05-15 10:21:01 PM
Inflammable means flammable? What a country!

Someone needs to get that kid some snazzy theme music.

wow, lost cause really is one.

"According to news reports from he's an expert in the fields of osteoporosis, diabetes and anaemia and has been invited to speak in congresses all over Mexico."

Reports from where?

If the kid is that smart why waste it on being an MD. Invent a renewable environmentally safe energy source or someting cool like that. Being an MD isnt that wonderful....

2006-05-15 10:24:29 PM
Yeah, childhood is overrated when you're making a six figure salary and buy your first Porsche at 16.

2006-05-15 10:26:07 PM
What the hell ever happened to that Vinnie character? You know, the wisecracking neighbor kid who was like Doogie's Eddie Haskel.

2006-05-15 10:26:27 PM
He might not be mature enough to practice medicine, but I don't see anything wrong with him learning it.

2006-05-15 10:28:52 PM
This kid can explain puberty and the facts of life to himself.

I can live with that

Exactly, going to school is fine, there is no way he needs to be an acting surgeon.

Kids this smart and capable sometimes get superiority complexes. I understand someone can be smart enough to do the job of an adult at a young age, he needs a little experience though.

I dont give a fark if Albert Einstein wanted to be an airline pilot at age 12, he can wait till he is an adult to actually do it.

2006-05-15 10:36:26 PM
I bet his parents would get discounts on babysitters, if the kid could do a full physical and blood work up on the sitter while the parents were out on the town.

2006-05-15 10:37:15 PM
I've heard of people with Aspergers syndrome doing similar stuff, problem is, the stuff they "knew" was really just memorized and not really comprehended; they couldn't apply it like a normal person (should be able to.)

I don't think Einstein would be a vey good pilot.

I too wonder why the vast majority of the most talented scientific minds want to spend four years in med school? Particularly with the advent of Viagra.

I think I'll leave it at that.

Did that 6 year old just steal my farking car?

2006-05-15 10:45:57 PM
This reads like some whacky story about some half monkey/half human creature in an Indian newspaper. I'd like to see a reputable (and I use that term loosely) news outlet investigate this. WTF is All Headline News? Never heard of them.

2006-05-15 10:46:25 PM
lost cause, wow, that was pretty farking offensive. If they have them, maybe you'd be happier at the message boards here (probably NSFW or anywhere else).

2006-05-15 10:46:49 PM
Why is everybody hating on this kid? If he is some super-genius and prematurely mature, more power to him.

/jealousy?
//would be nice to do some kid stuff, though, for his own well-being

2006-05-15 10:47:08 PM
That's because they will do jobs that Americans wont.

2006-05-15 10:47:27 PM
What's worse than a 6-year old doctor? A 6-year old Mexican doctor.

Rebecca Miyamoto surrenders.

Mr. Bitterness

I don't think Einstein would be a very good pilot.

Exactly, I bet he could have passed the written test and technical requirements with little study and at a young age.

Jobs like being a pilot or a doctor require tons of on the job experience, not just technical memorization.

2006-05-15 10:59:10 PM
At 6 you just don't have the maturity to practice medicine.

Even if he did, he won't have the dexterity.

2006-05-15 11:03:17 PM
Sergeant Tux: I don't care if he has the level of knowledge of a 45 year old brain surgeon. At 6 you just don't have the maturity to practice medicine.

I agree, particularly with something as sensitive as medical care. He can have all of the aptitude in the world and still fark up delivery.

Slave of God: I say judge him on his knowledge and aptitude. He may be more qualified than many 18-22 year olds who attempt medical school.

Doesn't matter. If someone is dying, they want an opinion from someone who has made it out of puberty. Otherwise, it's just a person reading test results in a clinical manner.

My mother spent three years fighting breast cancer, and the worst day she ever had at the hospital was with a recent resident grad who told her she would have to lose her breast. Not only was he wrong, he pointed repeatedly to the wrong breast and had the wrong chart in front of him to boot. I understand he was focusing on breast cancer patients, he was carrying around notes about several patients, and he was busy.

He still farked up. Not only that, but he was only young relative to my mother. I wouldn't trust a 13 year old doctor any farther than I could punch his ass across the floor, regardless of the amount of information he could prove he knew.

Learning how to deal with people takes an actual childhood/adulthood transition. Just because you can diagnose a disease doesn't mean you are the right person to treat it.

2006-05-15 11:05:35 PM
Not a problem since it's Mexico, but if he were in this country, he'd get in all kinds of problems with child labor laws when he had to pull those 12 hour shifts while doing his residency.

2006-05-15 11:06:19 PM
huh?

//Whatever... I could have done THAT when I was 3.
///The only prescription for this is more slashies!!!

To be fair, just because he wants to earn a medical degree doesn't mean he plans to be the type of doctor that treats patients.

2006-05-15 11:10:44 PM
If this kid had a computer diary what would it read?

This week, I finally found myself. No, really. Vinnie and I split a sixty of Triple Sec and nine hours later I found myself sleeping in the bushes beside the Taco Bell, wearing nothing but a couple of napkins and a plastic sombrero.

Just imagine it:

Rodriguez walks into a doctor's office

Rodriguez: "Yeah, Hi, I've got this problem with my hip here"

Doctor: "Hmm, it seems like it could be arthritis, or possibly osteoporosis"

Rodriguez: "Buddy, I'm 20... do you mind if I get a 2nd opinion?"

Doogie Howser walks in in a lab coat

Doogie: Por Que? Is this the patient?

Rodriguez (To first Doctor): So, osteoporosis? YOU DON'T SAY.

In closing, No farking way would I see a 13 year old doctor, or 14, or 15 for that matter Let's rule out teenagers.

But good on him for trying to get a degree though. by the time he's college age, he could have like 3.

2006-05-15 11:21:20 PM
This article is just propoganda from Mexico... They want us to quit patrolling their borders. They are tricking us by making us think they have citizens worthy of practicing medicine... I'm not going to fall for it.

2006-05-15 11:23:02 PM
I'm more interested in the news service.. interesting business lol

2006-05-15 11:27:15 PM
I hope this kid wins. I applaud those who are willing to give child prodigies a helping hand in the form of not holding them back.

Where I grew up, you were either mainstream or retarded. If you were bored from schoolwork not being challenging enough, you were put in retard classes because there was literally no other place to put you.
