Visitors of The Lounge can even select a specific body posture. Young men will have a choice of standing erect or ...

No big deal.

I am sure the teens will find a very interesting use for this virtual nightclub, such as posting naked pictures and announcing crimes - they always do...

This could be a good idea if hot chicks used the internet. I mean, that's the only reason why males go to clubs, right?

*Suffles off "dance floor". Tries cool Brandoesque slouch.Avoids looking at APEIRON242*

Do they have a choice of "hide in the corner checking out dirty playing cards and Star Trek trivia with the other nerds"? Because I expect any good teen social simulator to have an option to simulate MY adolescence.

/didn't slouch in a "cool, brandoesque way".
/slouched in a "high school is hell" way

You mean to tell me that there will actually be places online where people can interact and talk with each other?

That's pretty crazy thinking there, chief.

Let's just take things nice and slow. I don't think the world is quite ready for this.

2006-05-15 09:27:18 AM
I bet the interactions facilitated by such a system are remarkably profound and meaningful.

You can picture the count-down to this game going live, with early subscribers with fingers poised to create accounts and nab all the best stripper's/rapper's names. And all the goths will be named "Dark (Something-or-Other)".

ImagiNation rolled out about the same time Dirty Dancing did. It offered teens a chance to show off non-existent dance moves, social skills.

Meh, once you scrape off the "game" in WoW, that's pretty much the same deal as this place.

No need to be self conscious about looking awkward on the dance floor; Littlefield hired a choreographer who personally approved a range of moves so the alter egos of the Lounge's patrons are sure to look good while they boogie.

I have yet to get any of my dance moves approved. Explains a lot, I guess.

Here in Spain they have a thing called "Discoteca-Sin" - Non-alcoholic discotechs for the under 18 crowd.

Spanish dudes learn to mack before they realize how much of a crutch alcohol provides. It's a lot harder to do it face to face than through teh intarwebz though...this is just gonna make high school kids in the states even more socially akward and ugly.

/Though the concept could work if the kids are getting crunked at home and then get online and talk
//Wait, that's basically everyone who plays MoMRPGs (or whatever the hell they're called)

How can this become a succes? There're already lots of ways to socialize on the internet, and going to clubs/dance parties is something you have to experience yourself. How can they simulate dancing 'till you're entranced, the various effects of various drugs, smoking a joint without getting caught, some E-d up chick rubbing against you, or the massive group feeling when a buildup in a house/techno/whatever set finally climaxes? What about the crazy conversations about everything and nothing with complete strangers, or hearing about some cooler (after)party and going there with people you barely know, not even thinking about when and how you're going to get home?

What about reminiscing the night on the trainride back enjoying the afterglow, thinking about the crazy people/stuff... at the party?

The music will most probably suck though
