(NBC4)   Law student with new car was "trying to impress his girlfriend" when police clocked him at 126 mph on George Washington Parkway. Well, it did get him on Fark, that'll impress her pants off too   ( nbc4.com) divider line

Don't you have to be smart to get in to law school?

Judging from what I see as a worker bee in a law school... hell no.

And yeah, of course the fscker goes to GU Law. There are a few exceptions, but the GU Law students I know are mostly lacking in anything resembling common sense.

I'd like to see him explain this on his moral fitness application.

What most of you probably don't understand is that the GW parkway is narrow, winding, and set at a 50 mph speed limit. It also happens to be incredibly close to the CIA headquarters...

So yeah, fantastic judgment.

2006-05-12 11:44:06 AM
How do you even get up to that speed on GW Parkway?

2006-05-12 11:44:10 AM
Born small, huh? Blame God instead of risking the lives of innocent people, dude.

Law students are some of the most book-smart and brain-dead people running around this planet. I fear for our future.

Lucky sod. My (new) car cuts off the fuel at 118 MPH. Came way too close to bumping into it while driving to Boston once (hey, the left lane was ending, and I didn't want to get stuck behind a bunch of morons doing 65).

You could take it at 126. It's four-lane divided, so there's plenty of room. He certainly would have had to use both lanes available to him.

What a wuss. Real men triple the speed limit.

wonder what kind of car it was.... GW is not teh eZist.

2006-05-12 11:47:14 AM
That's a FANTASTIC way to run into a tree, or drive off a cliff and into the Potomac. That and the deer...oh deer. Look - I've driven 60-70 on the GW Parkway before, but 126? That's just plain STUPID.

I just want to get finished. Not looking forward to the TX Bar, but it'll be nice to get those loans paid off!

2006-05-12 11:48:27 AM
Pfft. Any car with about 190HP can do 130mph.

Cool kids get cars that can top 155mph and tee off drivers in their fancy german luxury cars.

This kid was definitely not cool. Could've been in a V6 Mercury Cougar for all we know.

2006-05-12 11:48:28 AM
What? You mean the fact that he was a GW law student wasn't enough to impress her in the first place? What more does this woman want!?!?!?

2006-05-12 11:48:29 AM
That's a huge fine. Too be he wasn't in CT, where the maximum speeding fine is, I beleive, $350 (might be $450)

Sorry about the D*** dude.

Yes, most lawyers are genius IQ, dumb as a rock.

Yeah, assuming the mergers around Chain Bridge Road and all the bridges (Roslyn, Memorial) are wide open.

But for all we know he was burning this through Old Town Alexandria. That would have been great to witness.

What kind of car?

Lets see...28, GU Law, new car

Based on those specs, Im guessing its somewhere between an Infiniti G35 and a BMW M3.

You're right, it IS a fun road! Not that I have a car, but Zipcar sometimes sees me over there (and not that I drive it THAT fast by a long shot...still a neat road).

2006-05-12 11:54:48 AM
OK, so wait, why the f did he go to jail for this?

126 mph at 4 am --- doesn't sound so reckless to me. I routinely hit 100 mph driving on the highway late at night when there are no other cars or passengers around. I have seen people pass me at much faster than that in the daytime. If you pay attention to what the fark is going on around you, 126 isnt necessarily criminal recklessness.

I can see a speeding ticket, maybe, but it doesn't sound like the guy should go to jail, even for a day. WTF.

In federal court Friday, Hoffman's attorney said his client was showing off his new Infiniti for his girlfriend.

Sure, you can take the GWP at that speed...but at night? Even if it was roped off just for your speeding pleasure, you are outrunning your headlights something awful (i.e. your headlights just don't illuminate far enough ahead of you to be of any practical use).

I suspect I could run it at 130+ most of its length, well over 160 in the straights...in daylight with all other traffic kept clear.

This guy, though, is a dumbass despite his 170 LSAT and the finest education daddy could buy.

/do most my speeding on the racetrack

I think I might go govern out the Cherokee on I-57 to celebrate. I wonder if they'll arrest me for going 112 in a 65?

2006-05-12 11:55:44 AM
I do all my speeding in the boonies, far from civilization. What idiot does 126 in town? Oh, this one!

2006-05-12 11:56:03 AM
I'm a professional speed racer, and I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

Many of you think you know what you're talking about, but don't...

In my (much funnier, but slower) submission, I pointed to the WJLA article, which adds an important fact:
* Genius tried to get away by taking an offramp. It just happened to be the offramp to CIA headquarters.

/why yes, it was an Infiniti

elpepe55: I can see a speeding ticket, maybe, but it doesn't sound like the guy should go to jail, even for a day. WTF.

The jail was probably for trying to outrun the cop. They got trapped on the CIA exit. Heh.

"When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shiat!"

Huh. What's supposed to happen at 126?

2006-05-12 12:00:21 PM
One day at our local ice house, there was a very fine 1957 Corvette convertible waiting for its owner to get lubed up. Said owner gets in car, with chic he is going to impress, and tears out of the parking lot onto the street. Made it about 50 yards before he lost control, drove into oncoming traffic and took 40% off of the front of his car.

2006-05-12 12:02:31 PM
I can't say much, I've gotten up to those speeds on GW Parkway.

Granted, it was during the day on Easter Sunday and there was no one on the road.

Don't you have to be smart to get in to law school?

Generally, yes, but you don't have to have any common sense or people skills.

2006-05-12 12:12:17 PM
There was a lot of rain last night and the roads mighta still been wet at 4am - he's lucky he didn't loose control and kill himself and/or his girlfriend.
