Geeks rule. The sooner they recognize that, the less they will have to suffer.

I 'member playing D&D in 1980 in high school... for all of about 10 minutes. Pseudo-self-empowerment via a fictional fantasy character whose fate is controlled by a 12-sided dice and a 15-year old acne-scarred "dungeon master"?

'Scuze me, I think I'll take a walk. You best do the same.

/said it then, sayin' it now

throws on some Rhapsody

Actually, I think I'm going to use this time to ask if people know of other power metal fantasy bands? I have no idea what the proper term for it would be but the music is hilarious and overly hardcore.

Give.

Although funny, the article is right

"We dress up funny, run around in the woods, and hit each other with sticks," he says. "There's something inherently a little funny about that. But how different is it from joining a softball league? You buy a uniform, you spend a lot of time practicing so you can hit a ball with a stick, and run around in a circle. Football, baseball, bowling-they don't actually accomplish anything. That's why they're called games. Darkon's the same thing, but, since people don't know about it, it's not as socially accepted."

Same things with fans. A sports fan is just as 'nerdy' as a sci-fi or fantasy fan. Rattleing off sports stats and scores from games people have long forgotten about, or players that hardly anyone has heard of isn't any different from a guy that can say who played what role in some episode of a show or what the backhistory is of some movie or book.

Sports fans talk about some player's big play back in the 60's or 70's isn't any different than a Sci-Fi fan talking about some action that X person did during Y episode.

If you want to laugh at the people that dress up to go to "the Matrix", "Starwars" or any other sci-fi/fantasy movie, then start laughing at the people that put on face-paint (or body paint for that matter) and wears some silly hat/team-replica uniform when they attend a sporting event. No difference in the 'insanity' level folks.

How is it any different than the guys who have their everyday cars repainted and decorated to look like a nascar (three of them in my city I have seen), and own replica nascar race suits?

It's just been sociably acceptable, longer, that's it.

\doesn't wear costumes for movies or sports
\\Enjoys sports as much as sci-fi
\\\Conciders anyone that can name sports stats just as big a nerd as those who name episode airdates.

This reminds me of a video I saw a few weeks ago about one guy jacking off to a naked WoW elf while his friends walked in with the camera. Sad, but most amusing to watch.

...and recently revealed as a fraud. It was suppossed to be a parody/joke about WoW players but the people that made it, said it got a bigger reaction this way.
