The Vauxhall Vectra was hurled to the side of the track but miraculously the two idiots climbed out of the mangled wreckage unharmed.

Did you know that they have support groups for train engineers that run over and kill people? Imagine killing someone and having no way to stop yourself because they just jumped off an overpass or stepped onto the tracks. Jaysus, the engineers on that train must have had a farking heart attack. It takes over a mile to stop at full speed. The article said this train was only going 20kmh (~12.4 mph), but still...

/Trouble ahead, trouble behind
//And you know that notion just crossed my mind.

One of the many reasons i would never be a train engineer. If I see cars, people, anything on the track I'd speed the train up, and add another tally in the appropriate box.

Anyone remember the protestor about 23 years ago that kneeled on the tracks? Ended up getting run over and losing his legs. He then sued the railroad and some other people. Then engineer sued him. That was a clusterfark.

2006-05-09 09:14:37 PM
I suspect that if it was an over or underpass, instead of a level crossing, it wouldn't have gotten the coverage. Even in the Star.

See, logically that makes sense. You know you can't stop, so you might as well hit it good!

No. Was this before or after Tienamen Square, where a tank column kindly stopped for a protestor instead of demonstrating that 40 tons of steel > 150 pounds of flesh?

You know those protestors. No sense of proportion. If 40 tons of tank can stop on a dime before a determined protestor, surely 40 THOUSAND tons of train can too!
