I would prefer the following end to the headline: "Judge to Beatles: Suck it"

2006-05-08 09:44:17 AM
If the Beatles are so hard up for money and want to restore the prestige of the label, then dig into those archives and bring out nicely remastered disks to update those they've been foisting on us since 87. And issue those 'lost' tapes they recovered last year. And get MJ off the royalty payroll..

Beatles: You Can't Do That
Apple: We Can Work It Out
Beatles: I Should Have Known Better
Apple:Do You Want To Know A Secret?
Beatles: Can't Buy Me Love
Apple: Ask Me Why
Beatles: Money
Apple: Money

I actually prefer my Who computer. Came with a free sonic screwdriver that holds 1,000 songs.

submitter: Judge to Beatles: "Die in a fire"

So... the Judge is a 14 year old that plays Counterstrike and WoW?

Apple Corps was started by the Beatles in 1968 and is still owned by Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, the widow of John Lennon and the estate of George Harrison. Apple Computer was formed in 1976, when college dropouts Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak filed partnership papers on April Fools' Day.

The Beatles are my favorite band ever, but I really think they need to cut their losses here.

When Apple Computer formed in 1976, the Beatles had been broken up for six years. The first few solo records were released on Apple, but by 1976, Apple had pretty much ceased operation, and re-pressings of solo albums, as well as Beatles albums, were once again on Capitol in the US, Parlophone in the UK, and Odeon in Germany, as they were before the Beatles formed Apple. Anybody else remember thos e bright orange Capitol labels from the 70s?

They didn't start using the Apple imprint again until they started releasing the music on CD in the 80s.

And while both companies have similar names, nobody is confusing one with the other.

Gig103: So... the Judge is a 14 year old that plays Counterstrike and WoW?

No, just lacks any wit in his proclamations I guess, and uses annoying old useless cliche's that have no actual flow or feel to them.

2006-05-08 12:39:20 PM
sigh. the original headline read "die in a stabbing" in relevance to george harrison in 1999. The mod who changed the headline from something clever and witty to another cliche must be the 14 year old you're referring to.

More like "Beatle" (McCartney) and "Yoko."

Seriously, haven't them made enough money off this venture over the years?

Like back off, Apple Scruffs, sheesh.

Is there anyone on the planet who still cares about Apple Corps? They only release Beatles, so just call them freaking Beatles Records. This guy who runs Apple Corps should join with the guys who sued RIM and UNIX and form a new Axis of Evil.

That song is the result of a misprint. The original lyrics were 'Do me, love'.

Gig103:

So, since I use that phrase occasionally in Warcraft because I find it funny, I am automatically 14 years old.

I'm sorry that when I feel the need to say something to some asshat on the internet it's not always a long and drawn out intelligent and original insult.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is die in a fire, please.

2006-05-08 12:56:11 PM
I certainly loves me some Beatles...but it's time to put this dinosaur of a lawsuit and all its history to bed.

Where the hell did this "die in a fire" thing come from all of a sudden?

The remastered CDs will be out later this year, in an attempt to get everyone who's bought a Beatles CD to buy a "new" one.

If you've got old Beatles, LPs, they still play just fine. Better, in fact, than the CDs.

Lucky for me I never actually bought 'em. (Borrowed 'em.) I probably should this time around, though.

Personally I prefer the "fall in a well and die" cliche.

2006-05-08 01:00:44 PM
The "Die in a fire" line is pretty annoying. I've seen it only here in fark, when someone wants to voice displesure in someone else. (I hate them/you/it)

I love ireverant witty sayings.

"Die in a Fire" is not one them. I have a lot less respect for folks that toss this phrase around, and think the sumbmiter is an ass for using it,(and it's not even appropirate for the story. The judge didn't voice extreame displeasure or hate.)

meh.

Fark headlines are supposed to be funny?

2006-05-08 01:02:19 PM
Didn't they make an agreement at one point where Apple Corps. wouldn't go into computing and Apple Computers wouldn't go into music? It seems I heard that at one point. If so, it's pretty obvious who's at fault, isn't it?

2006-05-08 01:02:22 PM
What's the line from the Rutles (michael palin) Wake up read the papers, find out who to sue, check the writs, sue someone, then go back to the office and sue someone else, read some more writs, sue myself...

/something like that...

2006-05-08 01:03:02 PM
Some notes:

1) Apple Music is legally obligated to sue Apple Computer for trademark infringement, or else they lose the trademark. They have no choice.

2) Two of the Beatles are dead already.

3) I doubt Ringo or Paul actually had anything to do with this case, as they are not actually involved in the daily operations of the company.

4) The Beatles rocked, still rock, and will always rock.

Hint, it has to do with the subject of this article.

But Judge Edward Mann ruled that the logo was used in association with the store, not the music, and thus was not a breach.

The Beatles used the name on a store, too, the Apple Boutique.

Speak not to me of blasphemy, man; I'd strike the sun if it insulted me. Look ye, Dear Jerk, all visible objects are but as pasteboard masks. Some inscrutable yet reasoning thing puts forth the molding of their features. The Doctor tasks me; he heaps me. Yet he is but a mask. 'Tis the thing behind the mask I chiefly hate; the malignant thing that has plagued mankind since time began; the thing that maws and mutilates our race, not killing us outright but letting us live on, with half a heart and half a lung.

/Above doesn't apply to Tom Baker.
