There are many paths to Jesus Christ.

For example, the path where people randomly spout his name in Fark threads because they're 100% sure their religion is the right one. I call that path the Fast Track to Pissing Me Off.

Our system as it stands now is designed to marginalize the workers so they have little legal recourse if they are exploited by their employers/landlords/etc... Making being in the country a felony (as recent legislation proposes) makes that marginalization even worse.

We clearly have a need for the immigrant workers since they keep streaming in and finding jobs. They aren't going to Guatemala or to Nicaragua because there are no jobs there for them. They come here because there are.

Our current immigration quotas are set to create an incentive to immigrate illegally to the US from Mexico, but raising them to the level necessary to handle the labor demand is politically not going to wash, particularly in the border states.

If we stuck to the quotas we have, we'd have serious problems with the economy and with a labor shortage. But as long as we continue to play the BS quota game by setting unrealitically low quotas, we're going to have an illegal immigration problem.

And as for the idiots making the "stink" comments, I'm pretty sure your cabbage fart smelling ancestors didn't remind passerbys of Chanel #5, either.

As long as illegal immigrants keep referring to themselves as "immigrants", conveniently leaving off the "illegal" part I will continue to refer to them as "illegals".

Well, then so long you keep playing wordgames, I have no problem calling the jaywalkers and tax evaders of the world "illegals."

How is wanting to eliminate illegal immigration racist or in any way wrong? I can't get a straight answer out of anyone on Fark regarding this. If you are legal and documented you not only qualify for at least minimum wage, but will also in many cases earn some form of healthcare. While at the same time you are contributing (via taxes and Social Security) to the country which is providing you a lifestyle presumably much better than the one you left behind.

I say you legalize every last one of them already here by sending them through the proper channels. Then you crack down on any individuals or companies still employing anyone that chooses to remain illegally. Finally you regulate immigration from south of the border just like we do from every other country and region on the planet. Why is that wrong or racist? Everybody wins.

Illegals do not go through the standard medical tests. I work in a hospital. You'd be concerned about this, too if you saw the sheer number of them that come here carrying all kinds of infectious diseases.

The illegals protest yet there is no worldwide shortage of Romaine, the toilets at the local Taco Bell still get 'cleaned', my yard is freshly mowed, and otherwise life continues without them. The main difference is that I don't burn half a tank of gas getting from one side of town to the other because of the truckfulls of smellies holding up the traffic.

Ha we always have Mexican dudes come pick up wooden pallets here at work. They are not contracted or anything they just come and take 'em and get $5 a pop to deliver to shipping companies around town for re-use. It has always been a couple of Mexicans in a beat up old truck. I just took a break and saw a black dude loading up the pallets. He just made about $25 for 5 minutes work. Good jorb guys good jorb!
