Some pretty badass ones. There are literally hundreds of fireworks stands around my house during holidays. There are even freakin' fireworks stores!!

I once lit an artillery shell and dropped it in the tube. My dog ran over to it and knocked it over. The shell came shooting out and ended up under my truck and blew!! Hilarity ensued.......No damage.

Sparklers aren't so bad, not when you have really large amounts of them tightly bound together anyway.

This is the third or fourth story I've seen lately about people paying a bunch of cash for fake insurance policies. How do I get in on this scam? Seems like people are standing in line with money in their hands waiting to be ripped off and I'm missing it.

I remember sparklers when they were SPARKLERS. These things used to be about 18 inches long, and about 3/8" in diameter. They would burn and shoot sparks like an arc welder for as long as a minute. The sparks were so large they would actually bounce a few times on the ground before burning out.

These modern pussy sparklers are quite sad. See what happens when something isn't directly protected by the constitution!

they just built a huge fireworks store near my house, and I went in to buy them....apparently, all i get is the aformentioned pussy sparklers. Though, if you are from out of state, you can buy the big shiat.

Siiighhhh, Just about everything fun from childhood has been legislated out of existence. This thread reminds me of all the fun (some of it actually safe and socially responsible ) I had with fireworks. anthills, frogs, the neighbours' flowerpots, nothing was safe.

One day I'd like to open a store offering all the "toys" available to us during a warped childhood;

Firecrackers, right from the ladyfingers to the 2 inchers and cherry-bombs,
bb-guns and pellet rifles
junior-sized archery sets
lawn darts
Super-balls ( try stopping one of those when its hit with a baseball bat right at you )
slingshots
marbles, with the circumference about ohhh, 3mm larger than the average kid's throat size
those rubber band guns that could fire ball bearings with a velocity equivalent to a handgun
those gas powered aircraft you controlled with just 8 ft of wire and a handle. twirling props, flammable liquids, 4 feet off the ground ! oh the fun that was.

The gene pool seemed a whole lot cleaner back then. go figure.

They aren't illegal out here, as long as you are outside the city limits of most places. I live outside of Houston, in the county, so fireworks are A-OK. We can get some badass ones too -- the big sparklers (that people make b0mbs out of, although I not sure how it's done), artillery shells, the big chrysanthemums like you see at the city displays (expensive but worth it). Even M-60s, which for those not in the know, are basically tiny sticks of dynamite. We can pretty much blow our asses up and it's legal.

The only thing you can't get, that I know of, is the little bottle rockets on the sticks. Supposedly they're banned because they're too dangerous. That's probably because people tend to put them in bottles and shoot them at each other -- bwahhahhah. (I guess M-60s AREN'T dangerous -- idiots). There are actually some big things available like look just like bottle rockets. Don't know what the difference is.

You can only sell them 10 days before the 4th and New Year's (my mom has a stand up in East Texas, that's how I know). I think in some states you can get them all year. It must suck to live in a state where this stuff is illegal.

There are lots of insurance salesmen, but not many companies in the US covering fireworks display operations. The loss of one carrier at this time of year will put a major crimp in fireworks displays. Most places insist in carrying $1M or more in coverage for displays.

There are still plenty of legal class C (1.4G) fireworks available in the US today. Stock up while you can; you never know when the goverment will get a wild hair up about fireworks. persons who enjoy fireworks are encouraged to join the Pyrotechnics Guild International -- a great way to meet fireworks people and learn more about the art. www.pgi.org. They have a convention coming up this August in N. Dakota that some of you might find entertaining. Good clean fun is almost gauranteed. For those of you in the western US, there is the Western Pyrotechnic Association with its "Do It in the Desert" bash coming up in October.
