It's a good thing that I quit

2006-04-28 10:05:13 AM
For some reason I care much more about this than Gas.

Would like to see a shortage of shortages for a while

2006-04-28 10:15:48 AM
HAHA, I quit drinking coffee

2006-04-28 10:16:28 AM
I better drink as much as I can now, while prices are still cheap.

2006-04-28 10:21:43 AM
Starbucks margin is 9.01%...1% short of Exxon...

When will the Congressional hearing start?

2006-04-28 10:24:09 AM
if you buy fair trade and/or organic coffees you're already paying $9-$13 a pound. i wonder if this will affect the niche market as much as the general market.

2006-04-28 10:35:21 AM
That's alright, they give us free coffee at work anyways.

My ex wife's grandma reuses her grounds. I thought it was disgusting at the time but it didnt taste any worse then Folgers

I'm with Maxwell_Demon on this one.

Are the coffee producers sure they want to piss off a bunch of high-strung, caffine addicts? I know I'm liable to defenestrate a few coworkers.

/And before anyone says it, Mountain Dew don't taste so good first thing in the morning.

2006-04-28 12:15:35 PM
But unlike gas, we have other options to meet our caffeine needs. If coffee producers want to make a tea drinker out of me then let them.

Then again, as long as 98% of the coffee I drink is free and provided by my employer, I could really give a shiat.

2006-04-28 12:37:30 PM
I hope Congress looks into this right away and proposes a rebate of $12 to every American.

Hey, they all gotta be on the same page. Energy costs are rising!

Here's another tip for all the moran's out there:

Buy your coffee in bulk, whole beans, and make coffee at home instead of buying is a Starf*cks. You'll be saving $$ and getting a better cup of joe.

2006-04-28 12:39:50 PM
But-but there's no shortage of hops, right? We can drink beer instead of coffee.

Really? Do you have to use more? I have to try this. I'll fridge the grounds, reuse them, then make compost!!

Probably for the best. Coffee's ok, but not in the dosages that we drink it in the Americas.

Remember kids, caffine can restrict blood to your heart by as much as 39% during workouts.

2006-04-28 12:40:40 PM
Looks like I'd better get into tea.

If I drink Irish Breakfast first thing in the morning, can I add more "Irish" in it?

Anyone else enjoy standing outside Starbucks and watching smug people come out with their venti triple-whipped soy latte gingerbread with an extra shot cups of waaaay overpriced java? I always want to say (as if speaking for them), "I paid too much for this trendy cup of coffee, because I'm cool!"

Get real. I can buy a really decent pound of coffee beans for only a little more than that cup of brew cost. Papa Nicholas dark roast beans, a $15 coffee grinder, and I'm in coffee for the next couple of weeks.

If it makes you happy, go for it. But it's a tremendous waste of cash if one does it on a regular basis.

Alarmist. Two pint glasses in the morning, then my bike ride to work with a one speed cruiser. I sweat coffee.

2006-04-28 12:42:25 PM
If half of it ends up with actual end producers, fine. Coffee tends to be grown in the places that need the money the worst.

2006-04-28 12:44:18 PM
Meanwhile, the central banks will blame gas and coffee for causing inflation, and raise interest rates, pushing up mortgage rates and thus wage costs, thereby boosting inflation still further.

Back when I was overseas, I managed to squeeze 2 months out of a single box of condoms. They're like cast iron post. So long as you keep them cleaned and oiled they're good forever.

The hard part was getting the hookers to clean them out. For some reason they thought they were too good for that, but it was OK to polich my knob and take a FIA.

Go figure.

/Not a true story
//I wanted to re-use something too!

I'm glad I switched to tea. That overroasted Starbucks 'coffee' was eating a hole in my esophagus (sp?).
Plus tea is better for you.

Suck it you money hungry coffee barons!

Wow, you have way too much time on your hands. I think it would be a lot more funny to laugh at the idiot who stands outside of Starbuck's watching people.

That said, I was actually really impressed when I watched a recent special on Starbucks. All of their employees (who work 20 hours or more) get health insurance and other benefits. They also purposely pay above market price for their beans to help the farmers they buy from. Seems like a great company to work for, despite having to deal with the crazy people who sit outside watching everyone.

I recently got a super-automatic espresso machine and let me tell you, it farking rocks. You put beans in the top, and you get coffee/espresso out the bottom. It was very expensive unfortunately but very, very nice.

How do we get the FARC to stop selling cocaine?
Make Coffee more expensive!!
Brilliant!!!!
/my apologies to Guiness and people who know how to post images.

2006-04-28 12:50:48 PM
Starbucks coffee is horrible. Its way too acidic and too expensive (1.85) for regular black, what-do-they-call-it, "grande??" or some bullshiat. I'll stick to making my own from the generic cheap shiat (6.00 for 5 lbs) and sticking it in my thermos. By my estimates, only, 12 cents per cup.

2006-04-28 12:51:11 PM
Oh, other point was that is one reason why coffee is so expensive there. They make it a point to always offer those benefits regardless of the cost. And they know there are people who will pay an arm and a leg for the coffee.

Clarke "You a coffee drinker, Dr. Ryan?"
Jack Ryan "Yeah, I drink coffee."
Clarke "Try the Lindo brand. I think you'll like it."

It couldn't possibly be because it tastes good and they like drinking it.

2006-04-28 12:55:13 PM
Coffee's demand is much more elastic. If it starts getting this expensive, people will cut down.

/I call shenanigans on the addictiveness, I can go from the usual 5 cups of coffee a day to none without problems.

2006-04-28 12:55:26 PM
Are you people not seeing that this is BRAZILIAN coffee? the stuff is crap anyway.

/who cares

If I do that I will sometimes get a headache (especially if I'm tired). But a couple aspirin or a diet coke fixes that. I never really have a need for coffee. I just like it.

I've never liked Starbucks though. It always seems a little bitter and burnt to me.

So what kinds of bean are used in French and Expresso roast coffees? I think it's time to grow some of my own stuff.

HickPrincess Get real. I can buy a really decent pound of coffee beans for only a little more than that cup of brew cost. Papa Nicholas dark roast beans, a $15 coffee grinder, and I'm in coffee for the next couple of weeks.

No you get real, I went totally off the coffee grid years ago and grow my own beans. I roast them using a solar powered oven and the espresso machine is powered by wild geese dung.

I milk my kitties for some cream and I sweeten it from the bees that I communally share my space with.

/ take that biatches

MMMMMMMMM Tea

2006-04-28 01:07:55 PM
Wait, is it an addiction when the first thing I think of when my alarm goes off every morning is "Hmmm...what type of caffeine shall I quaff this morning?" before thoughts like, "what do I wear" "what day is it" or the popular "boy, do I have to pee!"
/so is it? I didn't think so.

Pick up the interface card and go to the Nutrimat. Open panel. Remove the circuit board. Put in the interface card. Touch pad. Go to the bridge. Plug the large plug into the large receptacle. Missiles! Push the switch on spare drive. Go to NUTRIMAT. Get tea!
