(C|Net)   Cheating in online games has become such a problem that game companies are looking into "military grade" security to preserve a pleasant gaming experience.   ( divider line 123

Tjohnson: That card came out w/drivers and HL player signed a petition to have the drivers removed, then added the files to all anti-cheat programs so even if you still used them you got banned :).

Okay, last post for now:

Felgraf: I love people that use premade combos (esp 4 parters) in JK2, I kille done guy (first battle on sever) that ahd finished off 5 other "good" players with combos, I bet I pissed him off so much because I was smart enough to roll sideways to dodge him heh.

Sushihead: So if I understand you correctly, if you can make money by cheating, it's okay because it's just business?

Somehow, I think you've missed the point of an online game.

Incidentally, selling crack isn't a bad thing; it's just business.

Duke Nukem still kicks ass.

Timothy- He never said it was okay.

You seem really accusative in this thread, for some reason.

*chuckles* I must admit, I'm getting better at taking out people with premade combos. I do fairly well already, but mostly because a lot of people don't seem to expect det packs to be used as an offensive weapon.

i am ok at TFC but i love it. i suck at CS but have fun and play anyhow (my usual score is about 8 kills a map). i never complain, unless there is a real cheater on. once there was a guy who was blatently shooting people through walls, jump shotting and hitting, with 95% of all kills headshots. he had 50 kills and 1 death.

my fave time in TFC was one time i put a det pack in front of the spawn point door of the enemy. great timing for the blast. it exploded and killed over half the oposing team. hehehehe. i guess it was nasty to do...but got a few laughs

no, I don't cheat in online games. I am arrogant enough to think my skills alone qualify me :)

I didn't have to cheat in Asheron's Call to get the money I made on eBay (that can also translate in "I didn't cheat in Asheron's Call").

I had gathered a lot of items over one year of playing. I stopped playing for a while and came back and found that Turbine (people who run Asheron's Call) had stopped the production of certain items but no deleted the ones that already existed.

Basically my account "cured". Once very common items became extremely rare because of the changes Turbine made.

But, because certain items became rare and extremely valuable, people started cheating (duping). They flooded the market with items that once ran the market, and the whole economy was ruined.

This has happened in every MMOG I have played. It is part of why I stopped playing these games. I loved playing the 'Merchant', but that is impossible when you have to compete with people who just dupe everything in site for money on eBay.

Fagnarok Online is packed with cheaters, most of them no-good Koreans.

I've been accused of cheating in Aliens versus Predator 2 (the worst FPS released in recent history) because I used to get physically sarcastic.
"Sniper whore!"
"FT (flamethrower) fag!"
"Stp cheating with grenades!"

So I switched to the pistol, loaded with armor piercing rounds and dominated three rounds in a row before getting kicked. Nowadays you can nail someone in the head with the sniper rifle at point blank range three times, and they'll still manage to kill you first. Goddamn Monolith....

Oh, I quit Wolfenstein because it was boring, and plagued with TKs. Why is the best map for it the demo map, MP_beach?

Yeah, PSO had this same problem. I always remembered these god-damn cheaters who always duped many of the rare items.

Actually, once I did have this one really rare weapon(Twin Brand...for those PSO users who get my drift). I heard of it's value way before people started cheating(before the GS codes were discovered...GS should be banned in the US), and the value was immense. Just 1 of these babies could get you incredibly wealthy. Of course, I found my weapon right after the market collpased, and these things were basiclly worthless. So I ended up not selling it(and used it instead to kick the ass off the enemies, but I was lucky, because nobody I ever played with PKed me or my buddies). Then Sega started permenantly banning people that cheated(which was a very smart move). And that was Version 1.
Version 2 was even better, because you had to pay for it, and Sega made the game almost uncrackable with the GS(which stopped 99.99% of the cheaters), and if you DID cheat, Sega would revoke your account, and never allow the same address or credit card number(depending on how you paid) to play the game online again. The moral of this story is: Don't cheat with Sega, or else Sega will fark with you. Maybe when the new PSO versions come out, that Sega will give you a bad credit card rating, or tell the police that you are tampering with their network(because that's what cheating on PSO does).

Plus, with the GC, PC, and Xbox versions, all info will be copied onto the server, and the server contents will be backed up(to prevent hacking), and used for your info when you go online(which prevents that BSOD problem, I hate that).

Everyone should try PSO. Cheating is almost non-existant on it, and it's a damn fun game as well.

Plus, everyone is much nicer on PSO(due to the fact that most PSO players aren't American)

P.S:All cheating devices(GS, debug programs{PC}, etc.) should be banned. They should be as illegal as drugs.

I'd just like to say how truly poor Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat are. I don't know how anyone could still be playing those games.

The people who constantly play these games always seem to be the type that needs to prove how big their balls are.
Most of them teenage grommets, who think that their 'l337 headshot skillz' actually translate into physical toughness.

In fact, FPS in general seems to attract the biggest lame kiddie crowd of cheaters, TK'ers, campers, bunny hoppers and other such unethical activities. All these lamers play games like DOD or CS where they can camp like a biatch and peform all of the above because they just can't keep up with the truly skilled players in a straight deathmatch.

CS and DOD lamers are like someone who beats you in a match of Mortal Kombat using only jump + low kick. The cheapest, most 'win at all costs' strategy possible.

That said, I vote [1] for Sack-o-Quarters beatings for all cheaters!

What about a "no cheating" security deposit of sorts? You slap down an extra $100 or whatever when you sign up for your account. If you legitimately quit the game, you get it back. And maybe there's some way of getting it back prematurely if you prove your honesty over time. But if you get caught scamming or cheating, you're banned and you also lose the deposit.
2002-06-10 01:00:12 AM
Spamdog Yeah, stereotyping DOD and CS players doesn't make you a appear to be a huge geek.
2002-06-10 01:04:17 AM
LoL! I know. It was a bit of a blanket statement! 8-)

But if you are a CS or DOD player, you should know what I mean. I didn't really mean CS and DOD players in general (although that was what I said! oops)...just the aggro little bastards that fight and biatch and complain (and of course the cheaters too).

2002-06-10 01:12:45 AM
Yeah man I remember this time when this guy was just totally cheating and we all just totally ganged him and he was all like
"WTF? Why dID U jUst gANged mE?"
And we were all like "w00T! wE 0nZ j00!"

Funny thread. There is no cheating in Ultima Online if you want to try it.

There is VERY LITTLE cheating in UO, to be more precise. Every now and again some asshole finds a duping bug and screws up the economy... then the people at Origin find it, fix it, and (I think) ban anyone they catch using the exploit. THey keep detalied logs, so they can probably track it, too.
2002-06-10 02:23:48 AM
I know my last post sounds a little wierd, but yes, there is an economy in UO...
2002-06-10 04:30:23 AM
I played UO for about 2 years when it first came out, are Black Dye Tubs still around (the hacked ones that turned everything Black Black)?

I thought of picking it up again, but worry about getting ganked the second I walk out of a city (as happened before I quit).
2002-06-10 06:28:58 AM
Spamdog CS has alot more of the "Damn Lag!" and "Stupid wallhacker! F'n die fag!" than DoD does. I've heard people accuse others of cheating on DoD maybe 10 times in the year I've been playing it. And I hear about 10 complaints about cheating on CS in about a half an hour. There's some good CS servers out there without cheaters...but they're hard as hell to find.
