So be it I guess, I've enjoyed tons of time on my gc so far, equalling the time I spend on my ps2. I just hate the transition we are seeing that Microsoft has largely created; consoles becoming vendor/hardware locked in gimped computers. It doesn't have to be that way, if I'm off the computer I want to play console games, damnit.

2006-04-27 03:54:51 PM
I still don't think the new controllers will catch on. It just seems TOO different.

2006-04-27 04:03:39 PM
Hey, I don't mind that at all, Epyn; it makes it more attractive to developers (if you already have a handle on the GC, you'll have a head start on the Wii Revolution) and more developers is always better.

I remember one of the largest flames on the PS2 was that tons of xbox lovers were thrashing the PS2 for the difficulty of developing on it (the whole munch's oddysee thing comes to mind, when the flames were highest. IMHO they sold out and it killed what was left of the Oddworld series).

Ease of use + dirt cheap + online distribution system = cannot be bad for us consumers.

WORST. NAME. EVER.

"Wanna come over and play with my Wii?"

"My arms are tired from playing with my Wii."

The jokes are endless. I will NOT buy a system called Wii.

"Hey, wanna come over and play some Xbox?"

"Nah, I'm gonna stay at home and play with my Wii"

Right, because they wouldn't just put it on the site they already own....

"What did you do Saturday night?"

"I stayed at home and played with my wii all night long"

I love this product name.

farking Japs. First WWII, now WII.

As in, "Wii did not consult a single English speaker when coming up with this name, or else we would have known it means URINE"

Official Wii spokesman:

Can someone please get some English speaking people into Nintendo's HQ, pronto? Gracias.

I'm not much of a console gamer but damn that controller looks lame. Really, really lame. Couldn't they have at least made it a little less boxy like a Tivo remote or something?

From what i've seen it has a normal pad that connects to it (optional) or you can do one of each controller in each hand, so if you want to make it a normal controller you can. I'll still get it just to play Zelda.

I liked Revolution better. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

2006-04-27 04:41:28 PM
I'm most likely still going to buy one when it comes out.

Go Nintendo! :)

anyone remember the power glove and how "awesome" it worked?----and they named the thing with a slang term for penis---there must be a thousand monkeys with a thousand drawing boards to churn this out.

Dear lord, is this another wisconsin thread?

oh....

I can't see how this possibly bodes well for Nintendo's sales in America and Europe. In two of the largest Western nations for video game sales, their console is a direct homophone for urine. Every single site I've seen talking about this name change has been filled with repeated bodily-function puns. Hell, the console title is inherently embarrassing to mention out loud. I don't think that's a good thing for marketing.

I do hope they restrict this back to Japan only, where it doesn't have those connotations, and go with some other name for the Western release. I don't want to be praising the quality of my Wii anywhere, and I think many people are of the same mindset.

2006-04-27 04:42:37 PM
Will their customers be call Wiiners?

2006-04-27 04:42:39 PM
This is one of the stupidest names ever. . . The Revolution was fine and respectable. . .

Nintendo is on it's way out of the console market. This
new system will be the last nail in their coffin. The
controls for this system are awkward and not very
comfortable, the games once again aren't backwards
compatable, and they think color of the controller is more
inportant than game quality. . .

/I used to love Nintendo. . .

2006-04-27 04:43:05 PM
sadly.. I already made a shirt that says "Why Wii" on it
show your anti-support!

2006-04-27 04:43:14 PM
When I first saw the name, I figured, "What the hey are they doing?"

But then I thought about it for a bit. And I realized that the Wii is actually not that bad of a name. Like they said, it will be easily understood in many different languages (except those that don't have a 'w' sound; Sweden I'm talking to you). And it is... "unique" as Nintendo so eloquently put it.

I'm going to buy one.

2006-04-27 04:43:50 PM
Yeah. A remote. Farkin' wii....Might as well bring back Intellivision with it's stupid remote thingies.

Nintendo is dumb.

/weeeeeeeee say thumbs down.
