How about "the mighty blue office dong of capitalism and fooling the public about this "freedom" business so that they STFU and work hard"

Or TMBODOCAFTPAT"F"BSTTSTFUAWH for short??

I visited the site a few weeks ago, neighboring buildings are still empty because the air in them is too contaminated...

A few of the locals were pretty irked about how long this approval process is taking...

OK, I'll ask the obvious thing. Why? if neighboring buildings are still uninhabitable due to contamination then what good would approval of a plan do when beginning large scale construction isn't feasible due to contamination?

"Freedom" Tower's for the multitudes of simple-minded doofi (I believe that's the correct plural form) who can't get to sleep at night without repeating some meaningless slogan that brings them comfort.

I don't even see why they are rebuilding. Perhaps it's just me, and people I know... maybe people will clamour to be a part of thise... but I would not work in any one of those buildings -- aside from the fact that the security would probably be the most annoying thing in the world, it would be like sitting on a huge target. Same for living there, you'd have to be nuts.

Years ago, I interviewed in one of the WTC buildings, about 40 floors up. I left the interview saying "there is no damned way I would work there." I have never felt so unsafe in my life, and I don't know why, really, other than there was something insettling about being in those huge buildings.

The fact that the new ones will be huge, but also built on what is essentially a mass grave certainly would not improve my opinion of them.

God, have you seen the plans for the "memorial" it is freaking huge.

Why dont we just put up a statue of Osama and everyone can go there and reflect on his greatest victory.

/Rebuild the freaking buildings
//no need for a 2 acre "this is where america got farked" memorial in NYC

2006-04-26 05:32:04 PM
Why rebuild? Just put a big Wal-Mart there and be done with it. That's what this is all about anyway. Making money. The WTC was bombed over money and the politics of money, and everyone else in the world except your average U.S. citizen understands the dynamics and hypocrisy here. The only consistent thing to do would be to slap up a big huge shopping center filled with products shipped in from sweatshops in third-world countries, and call it the "Freedom Shopping Center".

What would have been awesome is if they built the towers in the shape of a 9 1 1 with "symbolic" red white and blue glass in the pattern of an American flag and an eagle crying, with a "symbolic" tree for every person who died, each with its own plastic baby eagle "symbolizing" rebirth, arranged in such a way that they spell out "9/11 united we stand" as viewed from the air, and a "symbolic" glass tomb in the middle of Never Forget Park of the Unknown Office Assistant (tm) who Died for Freedom.

2006-04-26 05:33:09 PM
Anyone taking bets on who will knock down the new towers?

2006-04-26 05:33:38 PM
The World Trade Center was ugly as piss.

I hope whatever the rebuild isn't quite so ugly as piss.

Most tall buildings are piss ugly.

If I designed the replacement, it would look more like piss than it did before.

Rebuilding one floor taller = piss. That flipping the bird thing is way
Maybe they could just leave it open, and make it a nice park so little kittens could have the same freedom that I have, and butterflies could come and express their views on flower pollination (no matter how much I disagree!) and trees could grow strong, and tall powered by the strength of our convictions.

OR they could put in, like a Six Flags theme park. That would be neat, too. They could have a 9/11 roller coaster.

Then again, I'm not from New York, so I don't give a piss.

USA leads the world with the highest number of people in prison per capita.
...
but day by day, it's getting increasingly harder to consider this country a "free country", much less "leader of the free world".

/Sigh

Aww poor baby are you ok now? Look, we have freedom because the law grants us freedom. When you break the law, the law gets to "break your freedom" so to speak and put your stupid criminal ass in jail.

So, I guess because there are jailed criminals in our society that we are no longer a free country?

My point was that our laws are becomming more and more strict, to the point where they are now absurd.

FOR EXAMPLE, congress is voting on a law this week which will give more jail time to someone who downloads a Britney Spears song than to someone who rapes a woman.

Do you realise how many people are in jail for simple possession of marijuana? Does that make any sense at all, to be a jailable offense? The idea of jail is to separate dangerous miscreants from society so that they can't hurt the rest of us? When's the last time anyone's seen a dangerous pothead?

Yet my father was legally able to get drunk every day of my childhood and beat us. He's never served a day in prison.

Yeah, land of the free alright...

Get a clue before you start revving up the blind "I

How about just rebuilding them exactly the same. Of course, there can be a small plaque which reads "On this spot on 9-11-01, terrorists successfully destroyed freedom in America"

/Gosh, I hope big brother doesn't read this.

2006-04-26 05:34:52 PM
Reminds me of that big ass obelisk building at the end of Half Life 2.

Wholly over-the-top and gaudy in an oh so typically American way, this building signifies the dick we've been waving in the face of the rest of the world for the last 60 years.

I give it a year, maybe two, before it's taken out.

The INTERIORS of the buildings have contaminated air. Sorry I was not clear on this. One of them of pretty substantial size is covered in scaffolding to the top. The outside air is just dandy. So new construction would be fine. They are just having a devil of a time sucking all that bad air and dust out of the existing buildings...

I was thinkking a giant statue of Jesus, like the statue of liberty except even bigger. And his heart is red white and blue and says 'never forget'.

Actually, without putting words into MithrandirBooga's mouth, I'd say that he was trying to bring up the point that calling a nation with such an astronomical incarceration rate "free" seems oxymoronic. I'd agree that political and religious freedom as guaranteed by the Constitution is not all that related to cases where citizens are jailed for murder, rape, thievery and (sadly) drugs, but it's still an interesting point, and his is a question worth raising.

Also- you're a jerk

USA leads the world with the highest number of people in prison per capita.

Isn't it a bit tasteless to hijack 9/11 relate threads? Just check'in. Oh wait, this is Fark. Carry on.

It's not a hijack (pun unintended?).

It's really relevant.

We were attacked on 9/11, and we were told it's because they hated our freedom (blatant lie; they hate us farking them over). So the government takes away a bunch of our freedoms. Then we build a new WTC and call it "Freedom Tower", like that word is supposed to be important to us, despite the fact that we've been losing them left and right for 5 years.

I'm just pointing out how farking stupid this jingoism is.

Laws don't grant liberties. They can only take them away.
Think about that for a second and you will see why this nation is not as free as you think.

/no such thing as a free country

I disagree. They Twin Towers were eyesores. Why NOT take advantage of the situation and build nice buildings there instead? It's not like you can just build the same damn things again and pretend it never happened.

What should be avoided are architectural Hallmark cards, though.

2006-04-26 05:39:23 PM
OK scrap all the plans, I got it.

rebuild the WTC in the shape of that Danish cartoon with Mohammed wearing a bomb for a turban and paint that farking thing on the side facing Mecca.

Same for living there, you'd have to be nuts.

I turned down an apartment overlooking the site about a year ago. Really nice place with sickeningly cheap rent for Manhattan. Wasn't because I felt unsafe... I couldn't stand the idea of overlooking a mass grave everyday.

And having been in the area, there are plenty of mofo's chomping at the bit to occupy officespace in that area. The real estate is too valuable not to build on it...

Oh and I totally stuck my umbrella up the bulls ass...

I don't know about that Freedom Tower, I mean, that thing looks pretty weird, right guys? It doesn't go with anything, it's like a porkchop at a Jewish wedding.

On the whole missle battery on top to shoot down attacking planes issue, I've got a simple alternative. Giant Spring-Loaded boxing glove.

2006-04-26 05:42:19 PM
We should erect a replica of the world's biggest pussy to symbolize the nation of cowards this Administration has tried to turn us into with its relentless fear-mongering.

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

That's nice...but I think we can be gaudier.

Maybe there could be a giant Jesus, as you say, but on Sept 11. every year his heart GLOWS. No, it pulses once for every person who died, and you can buy 9/11 teddy bears to pile in Never Forget Park, where there is a granite column for each dead person, each with a PHOTOGRAPH of the person on it.

/The photograph symbolizes the person, see?

Holland is more free because they have fewer drug laws and same sex marriage laws?
