Wow, the sad this is that this is going to cause a collective mindgasm from the right. There's nothing the conservative base likes more than to be told what to think.

I'm not a right-winger, but I'm glad for Tony Snow. He's a soft-spoken thoughtful person, who isn't an extremist who's always calling everyone who disagrees with the extremist view, "stupid", "sheep", etc., like say, YOU.

I'd hate to have you on my side.

Fox won, BTW. It has the right to lie to you.

It had fired some reporters who refused to lie to the public concerning an investigative piece on bovine growth hormone. Apparently, the results of this investigation were less than flattering to Monsanto, who apparently advertised on Fox. Monsanto asked Fox to do something about the impending truth, and Fox eagerly complied.

The reporters initially won, but the decision was overturned by a higher court. They are now being sued by Fox, for the amount of the legal fees incurred in the previous trials. Fox obviously wants to teach them a lesson. We might also benefit from the instruction.

All this, and more, thanks to corporate personhood.

It occurred to me recently, that America has spent around 370 billion dollars on this war in Iraq. It has been 37 months since we invaded.

That's 10 BILLION dollars a month there. 2.5 BILLION dollars a week. Are we safer in America? perhaps, but I would doubt it. Is the world safer? objectively, absolutely NOT.

with 2.5 BILLION dollars a week, we could have built for the Iraqis hospitals, schools, roads... Hell, we could have built Americans hospitals, schools, roads...

Terrorism CANNOT be defeated by violence. Only by good will.

I don't understand why everyone is up in arms over this choice. It was well known last week that he was going to be the one. Besides that, did anyone expect Bush to pick someone that wasn't agreeable with him? I mean he's the press secretary, the guy who speaks FOR the president.

I don't think there is anything wrong with this choice, it's the president's decision and he's not going to choose someone that isn't 100% agreeable. We know that FOXNews is 100% agreeable, so just about any anchor there would have been a great choice.

I never said the guy was an extremist. I said that this is going to rev up the conservative base. Not because he's Tony Snow, but because he's from Fox. I don't care whether you have Ron Ziegler or Ari Fleischer or Tony Snow in the press spot. The message is the same, just a different messenger.

I'd hate to have you on my side.

I'm sorry that it offends you that I think the media should ideally be the fourth estate instead of the revolving door.

I declare that any evasive answers given by Mr. Snow during his tenure be referred to as "Snowjobs".

That was right out there in the open. If I were him and I were looking for work, my resume would say "Tony SnowJobs" at the top of the past-work section. If I got turned down by a girl in a bar I'd slur "Whutthefark, babe? A Tony Snowjob is better than no job."

Ah, the glittering potentialities...

I'm not "up in arms", or "whining" about it, it's just interesting that the Bush Admin. continues to make themselves look like jagoffs, and they keep throwing these bones to their critics. You can't make the stupid crap they've pulled up if you tried.

Critics, we all know, belong in prison, according to Bush's Kool-Aid drinking supplicants.

I think this hiring has less to do with Snow's previous employment and more about the fact that they wanted a guy who won't sweat like a cornered game hen when hard questions get asked/pushed (McClellan). Snow will throw on that "radio talk show host" voice and attempt to deftly steer the press room where he wants it to go.

Whether or not anyone will fall for it is another question entirely.

What we have seen here today is the official "Max Headroom-ification" of the White House press machine. Little more than a talking head.

If you had to take the news coming from the administration with a grain of salt before, now you must take it with a quark. Maybe some form of dark matter.

Mr. Clarence Butterworth:

ironic kitsch = liberalism?

Scratch that. Not liberalism, "liberal bias".

"Liberalism" would actually make sense in the economic sense. But I don't expect the pseudo-conservatives to understand that.

Awesome! Glad to know that being pro-life, fiscally conservative, and Catholic makes you an extremist. Oh, and disagreeing with the president too. That'll really do you in.

What I don't get is why people complain about Fox News...

CNN and CBS are quite liberal biased (for example, CNN did a daily report on Kerry's campaign trail), so what is the big deal if there is a conservative biased news outlet?

2006-04-26 11:09:39 AM
heap

It is working out pretty well, given the obstructions. 3/4 of the Al Qaeda leadership has been caught or captured. What little is left has been concentrated into segregated pockets in Iraq.

The bad guys are on the run and being tracked down like the dogs they are. The war on Terror is working. It is now more dangerous for the terrorists than during the previous Administration.

War is hell. It is not pretty. I do not seek to glorify it. But when the terrorists are wiped out, it will be a great day for America and the rest of the Free World.

2006-04-26 11:09:54 AM
I don't see any problem with this. ABC hires a former Clinton press secretary to anchor one of their news show, the bush administration hires a fox news anchor to be press secretary.

If it says something about fox news it says something about ABC news.

2006-04-26 11:11:36 AM
RandomExcess: You can only beat terrorism by wiping it out. Everywhere.

What is a terrorist? I would suggest it is somebody who doesn't like a particular government, and uses violence to effect change. If some Iraqi, for example, doesn't like America, are they a terrorist? I would say no. But the same person, when they decide to pick up a rifle and and shoot at American troops suddenly Is a terrorist. There will ALWAYS be people who will dislike America, or any government. Surely you aren't suggesting we can wipe out these angry thoughts. You are suggesting we can stop people from acting on these angry thoughts?

I say your objective is impossible. The harder we control those oppressed people (and we HAVE to oppress them to achieve your stated goal) then the more they will dislike us, and more of them will use violence to make us leave.

Eradicating terrorism with force is like fighting a fire with fuel.

2006-04-26 11:11:42 AM
machoprogrammer: so what is the big deal if there is a conservative biased news outlet?

The big deal is that it is mandated by the ruling party in Washington.

Do a little research on who partnered with Xinhua (the communist party propaganda machine) to run a media network in China back in the 90's.

2006-04-26 11:11:52 AM
Shut........UP

I don't see any problem with this. ABC hires a former Clinton press secretary to anchor one of their news show, the bush administration hires a fox news anchor to be press secretary.

If it says something about fox news it says something about ABC news.

There's a difference between hiring a politico on the way out, and bringing in a journalist. It's the difference between credible journalism and the revolving door.

2006-04-26 11:11:54 AM
Ya, it says Fox hires people who have been pushing their views already, and ABC hires people who have experience in the area they are going to be reporting on.

The press has always been, prior to the 24/7 cable jobs, anti-establishment. Conservatives confuse this with "liberalism". The press will always take shots at anybody who has power, money, or both.

The Bush-lovers are cracking up because they are losing mileage with their "poor, poor, downtrodden, underdogs, whom are always picked on" schtick.

Tony Snow is just another symptom of that.
