(Some Guy)   Just when you thought political bickering couldn't get any sillier, Republican teams pull out of the Congressional Softball League because the Democrats run the league like socialists. (Second story down)   (dccc.org) divider line 134

"The congressional league is a relaxed affair: No umpires call balls and strikes, so batters don't have to swing until they get a pitch they like."

If they can't even play the game by the rules, why not just put the ball on a tee and get it over with. Why even rely on pitching at all? They probably play with that wussy softball where you use a baseball glove.

We all know that Republicans swing the bat like wusses ...of course they always have best equipment, courtesy of their corporate overlords...

That's really sad. I mean they're a bunch of congressional aides... it's not like they're any good. Why can't they just have fun instead of being crybabies about it?

You answered your own question

I wonder if they thought the NCAA was a bunch of socialists for letting George Mason play?

2006-04-24 05:43:40 PM
in March Madness, of course.

The Republicans were upset their PNAC sanctioned corked bats and Haliburton provided "special" balls were banned in accordance with the league charter.

Republican spokesperson quoted "Stop throwing that in my face - it's just a goddammed piece of paper!"

2006-04-24 06:42:41 PM
Seems like the Republican teams favour luck over talent if anything. If you can beat the weak teams in the regular season, then you should be able to beat them in the playoffs, instead of crying over it.

Ah democrats - "Everyone's a winner. Except us. At election time."

I AM a socialist. So I'm really getting a kick out of some of these replies. You guys make it sound like you know what you're talking about, but you don't...

Seems like you have that backwards. Luck over talent would favor the lesser teams.

"Republicans come here and want to bash your head in. And if they don't get their way, they pick up the ball and go home."

They appear to have forgotten the first rule of playing softball, have fun.

I love articles written by the Democratic/Republican Congressional Campaign Committee. Their Weblog is the best, it focus' on the issues that matter to all of us Americans, and are truely bastions of unbiased knowledge and information.

During the off-season, a group of Republican teams seceded from the league after accusing its Democratic commissioner, Gary Caruso, of running a socialist year-end playoff system that gives below-average teams an unfair chance to win the championship.

Um, yeah. Right. Socialism. The NFL or NHL salary cap? Socialism. Golf or bowling handicaps in casual play? Socialism. The MLB luxury tax? Socialism. Worst team getting first draft pick? Socialism.

2006-04-24 06:48:23 PM
Congress has a softball league?

/explains a lot

2006-04-24 06:48:38 PM
It's supposed to be fun for everyone. Sorry the Republicans missed that point. But, let them have their own league.

I never met a republican that I liked, not since 2000, They are all objectionable, greedy, ignorant bigots. This just further proves the point.

2006-04-24 06:49:06 PM
Looks to me Like the Republicans just want it to be competative... and it looks like most of the teams agree. I believe the article said that 110 of the 190 teams are coming with them.

Dear blame canada:

Because regardless of political affiliation, no one wants their softball league to be run by pussy bleeding-heart hippies. You need a decisive totalitarian to ensure that the cases of High Life arrive on time.

Democrats vs Republicans - but at a 5 day cricket match. That would be much more civilised.

Another right-bashing article?

...Or shining a spotlight on the intense polarization in the capitol? They can't even play games together without turning it into Machiavellian bullshiat, but we expect them to cooperate in the rather more weighty issue of our governance?

2006-04-24 06:52:09 PM
From splaa's link to the wonkette:

.."Because regardless of political affiliation, no one wants their softball league to be run by pussy bleeding-heart hippies. You need a decisive totalitarian to ensure that the cases of High Life arrive on time..."

So very very very very true.

Republicans:

Seriously, what's with the anti-socialism? Helping out the working class get a fair shake is NOT a bad thing.

2006-04-24 06:52:18 PM
Jesus.

Only a Democrat could fark up something as simple as a playoff bracket. No wonder these assclowns can't win elections.

From the party that gave us Freedom Fries...

It's what I've come to expect from them.

The top story was even more pitiful; Ending the MLB anti-trust exemption because Sorros might be part owner of the Nationals. I'd like to see what George the Decider does when that bill hits his desk.

VH-5150: Looks to me Like the Republicans just want it to be competative... and it looks like most of the teams agree. I believe the article said that 110 of the 190 teams are coming with them.

That is exactly why they are asshats. They joined a recreational league, then tried to force their own twisted agenda down the throats of those that were playing for fun. They then divided the league to get their own way.

If they wanted to play in a competitive league, they should have joined a competitive league. Asshats. Republicans always put their party first. Evil Bastards.

"The commissioner has a long-standing policy of punishing success and rewarding failure. He's a Democrat. Waddya' expect?"

Did I just enter a crazy tunnel or did the Republicans become spontaneously competent over the weekend?

2006-04-24 06:56:43 PM
Always good to have an even handed source like the Democratic Campaign Committee Weblog. If they think it's so petty, why are they trying to score political points on it?

2006-04-24 06:57:37 PM
All the Republican teams carry 44 inch bats too, not as compensation, of course.

Here's some other team names.

Blunt's Smokers (Roy Blunt, R-MO)
The Moles (Henry Waxman, D-CA)
Team Truth to Power (Cynthia McKinney, D-GA)
San Diego's Dukestirs (Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-CA) [Disbanded]
The Wicked Witches of the East (Jean Schmidt, R-OH)
The Morans (Jim Moran, D-VA)

I've never met a person who hates one side of the political spectrum I liked, not since 2000. Anyway, hating everyone makes you a bigot but i'm sure it flew over your head like....a softball..

/and the post comes full circle.
