I think that the only answer to this gas price rape of the consumer in both our countries is to have a government owned chain that is bound by legislation to sell at 150% of cost. Trouble is now that it is not the retailer that is ripping us off, it is the oil companies.

So do we need an oil company that is owned by the governments?

I don't have an answer for that one, but we do need FORCED competitive pricing somehow. Otherwise this will continue and keep on going and going and going.

Someone out there has to be clever enough to figure out a way.

Today's rate is: $1 USD = $1.13658 CAD and trends point to the CAD dollar overtaking the USD later this year.

Did you know that disco record sales were up 400% for the year ending 1976? If these trends continue...ayyy!

/or "eh" in this case

BiggerBastard: Also your money is no longer backed by gold but oil. Once that runs out you have nothing. We have lots of oil in Canada, so bow down Americans, we will soon "o3wn" you.

Uhm, I don't think that would play out the way you think it would play out.

Actually we're phasing out the beaver pelts and replacing it with maple syrup by 2010.

Didn't the townsfolk of Southpark invade and conquer Canada?

Canada U.S.

20,900 (1,600 women) Active Military 471,500
9,000 Frontline Personnel 220,000
399 Aircraft 18,169
2,194 Armor 29,920

Those pointless stats being said.. Even India has em beat. So as far as bowing down. When we get tired of wringing the middle east of oil we know we wont have to pipe it as far the next time we need it.

It must be true I read it here.. http://www.militaryfactory.com/countries_comparison.asp

BiggerBastard: XE.com Today's rate is: $1 USD = $1.13658 CAD and trends point to the CAD dollar overtaking the USD later this year. Your buying power is about to fold up.

Our buying power for what? Canadian cars? Your stellar electronics industry? Molson beer? (oops, we already bought that).

You do know that a strong currency causes people to *AVOID* buying your stuff don't you? You do realize that *LESS* people will be traveling to Canada as a result of this. You do realize that Americans will be buying less Canadian made goods?

Who gets hurt? Canadian businesses who do a lot of trade with American consumers that's who. But you Canadians keep pretending that relative currency strength is a dick waving contest.

2006-04-24 07:43:02 PM
Yeah, I know Americans are reading my comments and they know it's true and they just grumble and post back painful humorous responses.

Canada already has plans in place for a rapid Chinese military assistance in the event US invades Canada to protect their massive oil contract we have with China.

Also another fact that never gets any media attention is the worlds longest border security fence that sports some of the most deadly and sophiticated technology to secure a border.
It's completly invisable too. This will prevent the illegal immigrant problem when Americans and Mexicans moving north for a better life. lol

Dude... this is Fark. Every fark thread that even mentions Canada attracts a lot of dick-waving US cracks about currency. If anyone on Fark is waving their dick here, it's the merikans.

The fact is that the Canuck buck is very strong relative to the US buck at the moment. That's good for some sectors and bad for others. For example, it's great for Canadian consumers travelling to the US, i.e. all the retired snowbirds. Like you say, it's shiatty for tourism. Etc.

Jument: The fact is that the Canuck buck is very strong relative to the US buck at the moment.

No, the Canadian dollar is still weaker relative to the US dollar.

It's stronger relative to its own historical levels, which is entirely different than what you just typed.

You are a very disinformed American.

Please visit the following link to educate yourself.

America buys the currency from the Federal Reserve plus interest right off the press. Have you checked the amount of the federal budget that goes to pay interest on the debt?

Amercian economy is the biggest joke ever in the history of humans. In the end it will close down and they will be slaves of the world.

Seriously, buy gold, don't hold paper money.

When you dollar folds, we will be sending our stuff to China, the new "America."

The End.

World pricing on oil is one of the big problems. I mean in Canada most of the oil and gas we use comes from within the country, but yet if there's a shortage from Saudi Arabia we pay the same price as everywhere else, it makes NO sense!

So stupid...

Then again everyone keeps buying gas it's always going to be that way.

Does this plan include a solution to the little problem of, uhh, getting that big red army into Canada? What do you plan on defeating the U.S. Navy with your all your moose?

@ Highroller48

The conservative Government on PEI changed their PST rate on Gas from a fixed amount, to a percentage of the cost of gas.
Therefore as the price of gas goes up, so does gas revenue for the provincial government (along with federal gst).

PEI has regulated gas with IRAC www.irac.pe.ca , but even that couldn't stop price hikes after Katrina, as gas suppliers threatened to cut of gas to PEI (they increased the price of gas in the middle of the day after doing so the day before, then there were rumours of gas increasing even more which sent every islander to the gas pumps to wait in 45 minutes lineups which there never are lineups).

You mean Canadians are pumping oil out of the ground and selling it to us Americans, so we can polute the enviroment and cause global warming/cooling climatic change or whatever the screaming memes are calling it this weak?

I guess it's special oil that doesn't cause such things to occur.

I think it was Kruschov that said: "The Americans will destroy the enviroment and the Canadians will sell them the oil with which to do it with."

I guess the Canadians do really care about the enviroment, that's why they sell the oil to us so they won't be tempted to use it themselves.

I doubt the federal government earns anymore off of gas now that the price has increased. The tax on fuel is fixed, and not a percentage. You could argue that they'd earn more off of GST, but gas consumption also goes down as prices increase and people spend money on gas that they would have spent somewhere else, so I doubt that GST revenue really goes up at all.

2006-04-24 08:49:46 PM
