Maybe Paramount will finally get their act together and give us a film worth watching, like a Prequel about Neelix and Kes.

Now THAT would be something

"Daily Variety said the action would center on the early days of "Star Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer-space mission." - possible movie titles:

Star Trek 11 - Brokeback Enterprise
Star Trek 11 - Brokeback Spaceship

I'm sure there's better but it's early and I haven't had my coffee yet.

2006-04-21 08:45:26 AM
No, that is going too far. Hollywood, I know you are having trouble lately and are throwing anything and everything at the wall to see if it will stick, but leave Star Trek the fark alone. Do NOT turn Star Trek into an oversexed, overtensioned, underwritten special effects orgasm in your flailing attempts to revive your industry.

Attempting to capitalize on current movie trends, Paramount looks to release the next franchise installment: Brokeback Trek.

I'm not a Trekkie, so I could be wrong on this, but I thought it was already established that Kirk and Spock didn't meet in the Academy, they met when Kirk took command of the Enterprise.

Most reports I've seen say that this is BS, that it's rumours that have been floating around for years, and now it's jazzed up by adding Abrams' name to it.

And Abrams being connected to this should scare fans more than Berman and Braga being in charge. This is the guy that wrote a Superman script so bad that he was getting death threats when it got leaked to the net.

Coming soon to a theatre near you. Star Trek XI!

Directed by: J.J. Abrams

Staring: Scott Speedman, Scott Foley, Amy Jo Johnson and anyone else that Abrams can recycle from Felicity and Alias!

Personally,I'd like to see another Trek film. Heck, I was hoping it'd be with the cast/characters from "Enterprise." They had a lot of potential and instead Michael Berman captained in into the nearest blackhole of Suck.

So as long as they don't pull another suckfest like the last one and keep Berman miles and miles away it might be pretty decent.

Maybe the enterprise will crash on a strange unknown planet, the crew will discover an underground "facilty" that has ancient computer system that requires some kind of human interaction and strange aliens with a hidden agenda will play mind games with them.

Erm, I got this weird thing going on where no matter how well-informed I am about the prevailing sensibilities and what's "cool," my strongest impressions about a movie always drift back to the first impressions I had, while I was still actually watching it. And my first impressions were, Nemesis wasn't that good, but it wasn't that bad either.

It was just about on par with VII: Generations. Not as good as VI or II or VIII, maybe better than IV: The Voyage Home which I really didn't like. But an improvement over I and III and V and IX, which puts it in the top fifty percent anyway. I really don't see what you Nemesis haters are going on about.

Unless you're upset by "Dorky Data," which I'll admit is an idea that should have been left undone, but I don't see anyone mentioning him.

2006-04-21 08:52:37 AM
Forget Enterprise, the show blew chunks.

Make a movie about the DS9 crew. I finally got around to watching the series, and it's got better writing than any other modern trek show.

We're pretty much screwed for Star Trek flicks at this point.

The Star Trek: TNG franchise is overdone. Deep Space Nine is the "Great Satan" the Middle East has been complaining about. Star Trek: Voyager, aboard the USS Political Correctness, would be a train wreck (no matter how unbelievably hawt Kate Mulgrew is). Don't get me started on "Enterprise", although Scott Bakula did, in fact, die for my sins.

A saving grace would be to have George Takei as Admiral Hikaru "Pimp Massa" Sulu, but he's already contributed so much to this undeserving world, I'd not make him do this.

Why all the hating on Insurrection? Imho, it was the first and last TNG movie that actually felt pleasently familiar in it's use of the TNG cast. Generations was mostly just Picard/Guinan, First Contact felt like a generic Zombie movie that just happened to star the TNG cast, and Nemesis was just apallingly bad. Insurrection was the only one I watched where it actually felt like I was watching TNG.

2006-04-21 08:55:54 AM
Lost? MI2?

I take it that means it won't have a plot then.

First Contact - greatest movie evar. Haven't seen 10 yet, and the new series, although showing much promise, turned into Top Gun in Space.

Bringing back Spock and Jim et al is a good idea. Iirc they already managed to ressurect spock for a movie before...Wrath of Khan.

I agree, DS9 got better in the later seasons, when no one was watching. Some stuff was crap, but on average it was better than voyager or enterprise, even better than early TNG.

2006-04-21 08:56:29 AM
They just need to turn The Lost Years into a movie. Great book, I'd go see it in a heartbeat.

Trek is like Bond: everybody doing it has been doing it so long they don't do it well anymore.

2006-04-21 08:57:17 AM
There isn't much that we as viewers haven't seen before. Movies are getting more difficult to make interesting. If you don't do something bold, you're just rehashing your last release. If you do something bold, then you're going for cheap shock value.

Writers and producers can't win no matter what they do. But the least they can do is stop dragging old classics through the mud.

I agree... but DS9 ended pretty resoundingly. I mean, Sisko's gone, so's the best villain. I loved DS9, but it's really, really over.

"Star Trek XI: the undiscovered movie"

In the year 2598 join a small band of renegade space adventurers on a madcap romp through the solar system. Armed only with a keen wit, a buxom first lieutenant and a Klingon dog, Admiral Quirk (played by Leslie Nielsen) races to save the Federation from ... well, something.

Featuring: William Shatner as the "Ghost of Kirk", Pamela Anderson as "Lt. Moonbeam", Rob Schneider as Ka'plach, the Klingon dog.

Coming soon... straight to cable!!

Gene Roddenberry just rolled over in his grave I think...

2006-04-21 09:01:02 AM
Why don't they go with a story about Enterprise B?

Although an early Kirk/Spock adventure might be good. William Shatner can cameo as Kirk's senile grandfather, or something.

I initially read this as "like that Prequel about Neelix and Kes", and I almost doused my monitor in coffee. Not even Hollywood is that stupid.

No hating here. It's really hard for me to work up much passion about Insurrection, either positive or negative. Hard to remember very much about watching it. I agree with you, it feels like a TNG episode. When I'm in the theater, I need more than that; it's two hours of sitting on my ass, plus it's costing me money.

I also get tired pretty quick of watching Picard form these special, deep, emotional bonds with alien ladies, and not pour the pork with them. If he's not going to tear up the sheets like Kirk used to, then why should I care?

Heheh, he already rolled over in his grave. The first things they did when he died were canning Wesley, moving Riker away from being the man-stud center of action, and greenlit DS9. All of those things were specifically against Rodenberry's wishes, and all of them were great moves.

Jesus H. Christ...

"Daily Variety said the action would center on the early days of "Star Trek" characters James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, including their first meeting at Starfleet Academy and first outer-space mission."

I'm going to show my nerdliness here by contradicting an earlier post. Kirk and Spock DID attend Starfleet Academy together.

THIS SUCKS, HOWEVER, and I hope it's not true, because:

1. Nobody will ever accept anyone else in the roles of Kirk and Spock. This is not James Bond.
2. Star Trek used to be the best franchise around, but they keep screwing themselves and me - this would be more of the same.

STOP LOOKING TO THE PAST to restore your glory. Am I the only person who wants to know what happens to the Klingons and the Federation? Do the Romulans ever reunite with the Vulcans? Can we reach a state of co-existence with the Borg? I want to see new ships, new weapons, new plot lines.

Keep the story moving forward.

I think it would be absolutely cool to have a "Starfleet Academy" TV show.

/unabashed nerd
//former fan? will be soon, unless they stop the madness

2006-04-21 09:05:21 AM
Oh, and stop blowing up the Enterprise. I know they keep saying "well, destroying the ship is like killing the star, so this is dramatic".

Stop doing it. It was cool the first time. Stop fscking around.

Blow up the Earth. And not "go back in time and bring it back" or anything like that. Blow it up. Apparently there were plans to continue the series following Riker and Troi as commanders of the Titan during a collapsing federation. Go with that.

2006-04-21 09:08:17 AM
Bring back Kirk & have him wrestle a gorrila with a horn on its head, bang a green chick then smash things with styrofoam rocks

2006-04-21 09:08:31 AM
If they want to do something that'll really rock, how about Star Trek meets Lexx.

Lexx, of course, could annihilate the pitiful starfleet ships in one blast. However, Star Trekkers can beam aboard the Lexx and attack from within (whereas Lexx characters have to use little bugs to travel around; no beaming there). And Star Trekkers can go back in time and defeat the Lexx in the past, whereas the Lexx crew cannot travel in time (except maybe by waiting for the circles of time to bring them back). However, the Lexx crew doesn't have as many of those pesky morals that the Star Trekkers do. I think it would be a good fight.

And just for kicks, Star Trek and Lexx could get together and beat the crap out of the characters from Stargate SG-1 and/or Babylon 5.

Why not NCC-1701 C? It would be a great movie.
And it would end with them all dead so it would work out perfectly.
