I like how gas companies make so much money. I think I'll go into the petroleum business; boundless future. Boundless.

Well, the reality is that I live in Houston, and no matter how many degrees removed, I can directly trace my income the past 3 years since I came back here to the oil industry.

I suck the man's dick just like anyone else. Doesn't matter if I do it directly or indirectly.

You'll have to forgive me if I sound nuts or just retarded, I am pretty farking stoned right now, but does it seem like maybe the oil prices rise every time we do something that Islam doesn't like.

It seems obvious now that I think about it but I don't recall hearing that theory anywhere, even from the whackos.

I'm in the same position in Calgary. I don't even work for an oil company, but there's so much money in this city as a result of high oil prices that they're what I owe my employment to at the end of the day.

Hehehe, quite a few of my clients who service the oil field (I work for a smallish consulting firm) have offices in Calgary. At least they are nice people. I'm actually hoping for a business trip there soon. I'm a big fan of Vancouver, so I'm hoping it won't ruin the Canada-thing for me

Ok so that was last year... Or did that trigger a steady year rise?

Nononono... That's not what I meant at all. I was trying to be humorous, not snarky. I knew that you didn't literally mean oral sex, and I was engaging in humorous hyperbole for comedic effect, and....

Oh, nevermind. I didn't mean to make you angry. Sometimes things come across the wrong way on teh intrawebs.

In 2008, when we (hopefully) get a POTUS in office that doesn't have so many financial ties to oil companies, will we see a drop in oil prices?

One can only hope.

You guys may not believe me, but it's all my fault. Really.
The story involves a briefcase, a case of mistaken identity, and a hooker with a heart of gold. I'm sorry I can't repeat it here. I just felt I should come clean and put the finger of blame where it belongs.

Cool! This is doing wonder for the exchange rate. In europe we have already been paying 3 to 4 times as much for gas all along.

2006-04-17 05:13:43 AM
3$ a gallon here in upstate NY, plus factor in the 10 cent nice weather tax. Plus the 15 cent NYC tourist tax. And the strict/high state taxes. Tack on another 5 cents a gallon if you go to a full service pump. Multiply that by the fact that my 15 year old jeep gets about 11 miles a gallon. 24 miles back and forth to work 6 days a week.

If the oil prices have not hit the anus then why am I getting farked in the a$$

ok i know that they are here to make money but damn. this is what i think we should do those that are pushing this to far...feed them rotten, gray hair infested, fish guts

not gonna be much more until there's chaos at the pumps - people are gonna start going postal if something doesn't change and quick.

i know most of you think "hop on a bicycle" but not everyone lives within a few blocks from work - especially those of us in rural areas.

I can't wait to hear more platitudes and empty promises to do something about it from the government.

Gas is around 3.70 a gallon. Wow, i can remember just two years ago it being only 1.70 a gallon.

Not that it matters, I take the bus. At only 1.25 a day, it's worth the extra time it takes and the smelly, kinda crazy passengers.

2006-04-17 05:26:50 AM
I propose a new kind of automobile that runs on the blood of orphaned boys. Surely it must be cheaper.

2006-04-17 05:28:05 AM
Keytronic, I think many "regular" people will be joining you, as gas prices climb... people will see the wisdom in your statement and begin getting on the bus with you.

Start demanding more ethanol in your fuel. An awful lot of cars are designed to run on up to 85% ethanol now. But not in California- they won't let you. Check the percent at your pump. Look up your car at the federal energy website that lists all vehicles (your manufacturer isn't required to put that in your manual). Last I saw we still subsidize corn around the US, we could be doing more.

2006-04-17 05:42:39 AM
OregonVet the problem with using biodiesel gained from corn is that there simply aren't enough acres of corn on the planet to make this system work. It's a nice idea, and I believe it just needs to be developed a bit further, but as of right now, it would actually cost us more if we put our vehicles on some of the "alternative" fuels that are being developed.

2006-04-17 05:43:14 AM
OregonVet: Start demanding more ethanol in your fuel.

Why? Ethanol sucks. I have a flex fuel vehicle that can run on straight enthanol... but there's only one station within a 100 miles miles that carries it. It's over 2.50/gallon and it's about 1/2 the horsepower that gas provides and 1/2 the MPG.

Not to mention there's a shortage of ehtanol currently, another reason gas is so expensive.

2006-04-17 05:43:26 AM
Oil companies are posting record profits screwing the consumer. Has anyone else noticed that our President hasn't said one word about the oil/gas prices? We have millions of barrels of oil in the Southeast sitting there doing nothing that would help ease the cost to the consumer. Bush administration sucks ass!

wtfcares: ok what about the money the oil companies made this year?

The oil industry is awful. We all know damned well that operating expenses haven't gone up that much to justify ever climbing gas prices. They know that people like you (probably) and I, and most other "average" citizens require gas to drive to and from work, the food store, uncle Joe's house, etc. Oil companies are trying to find that sweet spot. High enough that we can still afford to drive to work, but not so high that we truly can't afford to drive anymore. Most people can "afford" to pay $4/gallon for gas. It may affect the amount of money people have to go out to a nice dinner, or buy a video game, toy, rent a few videos, etc, but won't affect people's ability to live.

That's what big oil is aiming for. To suck every extra dollar possible from everyone's pocket. Jerks.
