Yay Glasgow. I went once... it was confusing to get around and very very dirty.

I'd love to work in Antarctica for a while, since I'm Canadian I'm almost acclimated to it anyway :)

The pay, though, is on top of meals and housing. Medical may be an issue in Antarctica, though.

Got excited when my advisor mentioned testing the spectral sensitivity of penguins in Antarctica, was dissapointed when he settled for sea turtles in Trinidad (so I ain't goin').

Plenty of life here. You might be thinking of Dundee, a.k.a. Zombietown.

Hell, count me in. It can't be worse than Spokane Washington. Dry place, freezing in winter. In November-December, we had 22 days with daytime highs under freezing... and most of those days it was WELL below freezing.

I'M FROM THE SOUTH! TWENTY-TWO DAYS WITH BELOW FREEZING HIGHS IS AN AFFRONT TO NATURE!!!!!!

Sorry, I'm better now.

/So sayeth the Wise Pharaoh Fluffy of the Cacti

China Mountain Zhang surrenders

/obscure?

No The Thing references yet?

Seems like surprisingly crappy pay unless the Antarctic Allowance is very good indeed. I mean a skilled electrician or plumber makes a fortune anyway.

well it says stints start at 6 months so that might mean 31k US for 6 months which is decent.

Fluffy_the_cactus: Hell, count me in. It can't be worse than Spokane Washington

Forget the weather, I think Spokane is just a hole to begin with. Nice meth problem, great pollution, and hordes of un[der]employed addicts all over the place. Vying with Trona, CA for the nastiest place in the USA. Yuck.

Big River: I think Spokane is just a hole to begin with.

Seconded. It really doesn't have a lot going for it other than it's between the rest of the north country and Seattle.

Vying with Trona, CA for the nastiest place in the USA.

Damn, I live in Cali and have never heard of Trona. Hope I never hear of it again, either. Yikes.

Will someone post the website with a description of these jobs, please? I need to know what requirements they're looking for (particularly if they're open to unskilled or unlicensed labor from the United States.)
