Unless it's only two lanes, 12 seconds is not enough time to cross a street.

No article...no quotes, it's like a wasteland in here! I'm going back to the chickfila thread where murder is delicious.

I never heard anyone say it was San Fernando. All the articles I read a few days ago said Los Angeles. Where did this San Fernando nonsense come from?

They need to have more respect for the elderly, especially those who choose to walk and not become "death on wheels" in a car.

Forgive the dang-bursted ticket, and go after some crooks.

2006-04-13 03:02:05 PM
Is that the same old lady that does 25 in the left hand lane of a 4 lane highway with her left blinker on for the last 12 miles?

She should get a ticket?

People have to learn to cross a street. You go at the start of the green light, not just anytime the light is green, or you're obstructing traffic.

Don't like it? Get out of Cali or change the laws.

I'll tell you I have lost almost all respect for the elderly. They are the rudest, shortest, and most demanding demographics of customers I deal with. I am sure I will probably end up the same way if I live long enough. She was probably holding up traffic and deserved the ticket. Some old coot in McDonalds the other day trys to scoot in front of me for his free senior coffee refill. He didn't make it. I gotta get to work your just sittin over there sucking up my social security so get in line. He couldn't believe I said anything to him and just wandered to the back of the line with this stupid look on his face.

//Yeah I'm burned out
///Ain't lettin old people walk on me anymore

2006-04-13 03:12:49 PM
I talked to this woman, she is really decrepit and that intersection is a killer. She had no idea who the ticket came from. She's handling it in absentia. David, that ticketee will someday be you shuffling across the street if you're not careful. Watch out.

You are just pissed to be working at a job that makes you deal with customers. They probably have less than zero respect for you...

i hear you man... back in high school i was working at a restaurant (never again!) and some old fart started yelling at me because we don't give a senior discount. i had just gotten paid so i whip out my pay slip, point to the social security withheld section and said "there is your friggin discount... you get paid for every hour I work. here is your change... have a nice day"

Not really. Been doing it 25 years and haven't missed a day of
work in the last 10. Love it really. Seniors are just rude and demanding to
people in the service industry. Mush ruder than any other demographic we deal
with. And yes they have zero respect for me, or probably any other service
person they run into during the day, or they would act a little more mature and
offer that respect up. If they did that then they would gain mine back. And for
the record I said I lost respect for them but I don't treat them that way and
show disrespect. They on the other hand show it.

Yeah...you got me there. They are retired though, sitting over there talking
about the price of ketchup, and he has to cut in line. Where is he going? But
yeah it was harsh.

This guy is not sucking up your social security. More than likely he paid into the program his whole life just like the rest of us. It is yourgovernment that is spending your social security.

(you forgot a space up there between your and government)

Exactly.

The Government already spent his that he paid in and now they are using mine to
pay his and by the time I retire it will all be gone.

Not blaming him for that but he probably should make sure I get to work everyday
so that he can continue to receive his Social Security.

/ok so it probably ain't (sic) true but it feels good to vent

Send this old lady to McDonalds to suck up some of interwovens supposed SS benifeits. Get her off the streets that are owned by interwoven as well. Oh well, with any luck maybe he won't be around long enough to get that which will not be there for him to recieve because the government is wasting it. Not the old man, who has already paid his dues. nuff said.

2006-04-13 05:42:14 PM
Social Security is not a savings account. What goes in now gets spent now. So, yes, pointing to the SS line in one's check to irritate a senior citizen, while rude and confrontational, is also accurate and hilarious.

/thought it was the Kung Fu guy at first too

So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info on Cat Pics gets passed around.

If you dont know about the topic....Don't make yourself sound like you do.

Cuz some Farkers believe anything they hear.

Is that the way it works in CA? That's farked up man. Where I'm from (Toronto) you cross any time it's green. Peds have the right of way, always.

Here in WA most of the lights enforce the CA way by simply not turning unless you press the button and then wait for the next green for the walk signal. Not that I ever push the damn buttons though. I'm chronic jaywalker.

2006-04-13 09:32:13 PM
Jument, in Toronto, the city is nice enough to put up Walk/Don't Walk signs, and you can start walking right up until the point where the don't walk sign starts to flash. It will flash for long enough that a blind guy with a limp can cross.

I just moved to Montreal, and there aren't any crosswalk almost anywhere. You walk when the light changes, and pedestrians use the same lights as the cars do. Furthermore, there's no Red/Red 3 second wait when the light changes. It goes right from Stop to Go, both ways.

I'm lucky to be alive.

Perhaps *you* should read the law. You have right of way if you enter the crosswalk on the green until you reach a protected center median or the other side. Cross traffic does not have the right of way with a green light if cross-traffic hasn't cleared.
