I smoked a bowl of 10X once and I was tripping balls, felt so weird, it was like there was a line across my face but I'd do it again if it wasn't so farking expensive... $30/g CAD

Im glad you posted the requisite Erowid link.

it seems crazy to me that with all the knowledge that is so readily available on the plant that the shmuck who is pushing for its criminalization has no idea what it is.

biatching aside, Salvia has a lot to offer you if you approach it with an open mind and a healthy dose of respect. Exercise care though because she can be both a warm and caring teacher and a cruel, hardhearted mistris.

I found this book the other day in a B&N:

www.rainbowgardensbookshop.com

Wonder if they will try to ban that too. ;P

2006-04-12 12:59:28 PM
I've tried smoking Salvia Divinorum, and it aint that great. Off of one hit, you get this feeling of movement, like you're moving down a current in a river. Only lasts about 30 seconds, not really anything worth trying again. I'll stick to weed thank you very much.

I'm sure the effect is more potent if you smoke an insane amount, but my lungs are already bad enough as it is.

2006-04-12 12:59:49 PM
What the fark? This is why I hope every republican will hurry up and die in a fire- they don't even know what it does, they just want to ban it for the hell of it! They're such knee-jerks against freedom- they hear some people might be enjoying this plant, and they just haaave to ban it!

You can have my salvia when you pull it from my cold, ego-dead hands!

Knowledge has never been a barrier to legislation. :)

Oops, I was thinking of Datura (also called Jimson weed or the devil's weed) but this stuff Salvia sounds pretty cool.

We need responsible folks to use these plans for wisdom and growth, not partyers who just wanna get farked-up.

//Though I guess I've been both.

Here's a nice quote:

Strader, a Knoxville Republican, said he is uncertain about the specific effects of the plant.

"I don't know and I don't want our kids to find out either," he told the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday. "The bottom line is it's not good for students."

Legislation on baseless accusation! Yaay!

Gaze upon your dysfunctional government!

(Not that this is anything new.)

2006-04-12 01:05:42 PM
you can also have a load of fun if you scrape the insides of a banana peel and boil the results (or some such procedure)

Of course, I never tried this as a kid...

..it must be hard to live in Tennessee.

So hard that people are eating thier shrubs to get high and licking toads.

MWeather : he's talking about Angel's Trumpet, a relative of Datura.

/If you're gonna come to the party late, at least bring something!

2006-04-12 01:10:39 PM
Had a roomie who smoked salvia all of the time. He said it calmed his nerves. He'd mix it with roll-your-owns. Still, the dude was nuts, so it might have done something.

2006-04-12 01:11:19 PM
Salvia does nothing.
For me anyway.

But that's no reason to pump up some drug hysteria.

Why won't someone think of the children?
Oh, they are. But technically, they're not thinking. Just knee-jerking.

2006-04-12 01:13:46 PM
I don't know what I'm diong wrong, but hwenever I tried Salvia (twice now) I just get TONS Of saliva, a headache, and what I've termed as stumbly-legs, for the duration of about 2 minutes.

Am I not smoking enough? Do these feelings come before the BIG high?

/a friend wants to know

Yes, I know. Which is why I told hime he was thinking of another plant.

Knowledge has never been a barrier to legislation

that doesn't justify irresponsible government,
nothing does,
yet we continue to accept their inane justifications.

I done with bulshiat laws!
no more hiding my potheaditry!
no more waiting at red lights when there's no one else at the intersection!
no more putting on pants to go to the store!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

The regular salvia doesn't do much of anything when you smoke it. You pretty much have to smoke the 10x or 20x concentrated extract to have any appreciable effect, and then it's NASTY shiat. Not the kind of thing anyone who doesn't have some kind of underlying mental illness would want to experience more than once in their life. It's not really a hallucinagen as much as it's a kind of 'to the gates of hell and back again fark you up trip'. Unlike any trip you've ever had and ever want to have again. Respect the Salvia, do not try lightly.

2006-04-12 01:18:02 PM
In Mexico: Chew a few leaves... in 15 minutes you go on a spiritual trip lasting about 30 minutes, mostly mild hallucinations, vertigo, etc

In the US: Dry and smoke a load or it chemically enhanced, go on crazy, mind bending episodes that can cause all loss of motor function.

If we let stupid people do what they want, there wouldn't be any more stupid people. I'm for that.

2006-04-12 01:18:53 PM
Hilarious. I remember a time, when I worked at the local nursery, during which decrepit looking wasters would come down to the farmers market and ask us if we had any angel's trumpets or salvia.

Classic.

2006-04-12 01:19:21 PM
That stuff is not for recreational purposes. Don't mess around with it.

Pete: "We'd like ta carry on now, and play a song originally recorded by Mose Allison, who's really a jazz musician 'n' I did read something on one of his record covers which said he was a jazz sage. Quite what that means, I don't know. Uh..."
Keith: "He'll flavor chicken."

2006-04-12 01:21:39 PM
My local head shop sells this stuff. They have the active ingredient (divinorum A) standardized and concentrated. They have stuff that starts at 10x potency, and goes up to some number that they won't tell you. I believe it is around 60-90x.

I got the stuff that was 40x. Cost me 30 dollars for a gram of this greenish powder. I took one drag... Nothing. The second drag dropped me into a state that when I moved my head, all items were leaving muticolored rainbow afterimages. I then started to laugh uncontrollably for about 2 minutes. Then BAM! It was over. There was a general glow for about 15 minutes afterwards. I looked down, and discovered that I had smoked all 30$ worth.

The highest rated stuff is too expensive for me. It runs around 50$ for a gram. The cashier there told me that when she smoked it that "The entire space time continuim collapsed in on itself." and "The universe ceased to exist over my left shoulder" for about an hour. The after effects lasted 2 days. She said that she would find herself glancing behind her to make sure that reality was still there.

With the stuff I tried not being all that less potent than hers, I figure that the effects can vary greatly from person to person. To me, it's just not worth it. And it taste really wierd. And took forever for me to get that taste out of my pipe.

2006-04-12 01:24:18 PM
Not that I'm an expert by any means, Antonsmith1, but I assume you've just been picking up the leaves (something like $5 per half... though correct me if I'm wrong) when in fact it is the extracts you should be looking for. These are typically more expensive and much smaller packages and are available in 10x, 20x, and so on.

Though I'm not advising that you take the drug under any circumstances.

STFU! Are you trying to get them to ban bananas or sumtin?

The comatose kids in Florida and the German eunich were messing with Datura (Jimson Weed, Devil's Weed). Better know what you're doing if you want to play with fire. Remembering the words 'coma' and 'self-castration' may help you consider the wisdom of using it. It's NOT a classified as a hallucinogen.

Salvia contains the most potent known natural 'hallucinogen'. When smoked the trip lasts about 10 mins, but I believe there are subtle effects that can last for weeks. Most people find the effects unpleasant.

/Read up on both at Erowid.org

NewDaddy
Schizophrenia is a brain shape abnornmality that people are born with. A rounder-than-normal temporal lobe causes less-than-normal electric impulses and cerebral misfires. Usually, a person shows no sign of the ilness until something mentally traumatic happens to them, such as the use of hallucinogins. It eventually happens, no matter what.

"Common landscaping plant"?? HAHAHAHHAHAHA! Sure, a lot of salvias are common garden plants, some varieties attract hummingbirds or butterflies (and will take over a bed in a heartbeat if allowed), and common cullinary sage is a salvia.

But div. as a garden plant? It's not that pretty, it almost never blooms, it's incredibly finicky to care for, and you have to go WAY out of your way to get it, usually via mail order.

I'd be SHOCKED if there's enough div. growing in any available form that wandering herds of schoolchildren are consuming it.

Of course, kids being kids and willing to believe anything from smoking banana peels to oregano will get them high, it wouldn't suprise me in the *least* if they were eating some variety of ornamental salvia THINKING it was div. and increasing the false hype.

Feh. People are stupid.

2006-04-12 01:41:15 PM
Salvia once was enough thank you.

Thank god we tackled my buddy before he jumped through our rec-room window and out into the street.

Never seen anyone look so scared.

The jalapeno cheeseburger I'm having for lunch is probably more detrimental to my health than this plant.

2006-04-12 01:45:00 PM
I've done that stuff before. It's pretty farked up.

2006-04-12 01:48:28 PM
Search ebay for it, it is pretty amusing that you can buy this stuff so easily. I hope cannabis is that easy to get one day.

*facepalms* This babysitter policy belongs with the far left (Hillary Clinton?), why must there be farktards like this guy? What happened to conservative policies? *sheds a single tear, then gets over it*

"dhur, never done anything, don't want to, bad bad bad"

2006-04-12 01:50:49 PM
Looks like all the politicians are jumping on the bandwagon. Alaska is trying to ban "Sally D", something I never knew about before reading it in the news.

I wonder how many people will try it now that they know about it?

2006-04-12 01:51:41 PM
House Majority Leader Kim McMillan, D-Clarksville, told Strader that it is "unclear about what it is that we are criminalizing

Which about says it all for drug prohibition in general.

2006-04-12 01:51:51 PM
Boy,...... theres a lot of people in this thread that have no idea what they are talking about. Salvia is not "Angels Trumpets "or jimson weed, and you won't die if you take too much because you won't be able to find your pipe after 2 or 3 good hits. Its certainly not anything that anyone would want to do more than once or twice a year, if that. Its unlike any other hallucinigen I've tried and it can be very scary. It related to the mint family I believe. The fools in Tennesee need to be worried about the mutant meth kids that are-will soon be flooding their primative health and human services.

2006-04-12 01:52:47 PM
I've heard about Morning Glory which contains Lysurgic Acid Amide (LSA). LSD is Lysurgic Acid Diethylamide, and the two are similar.

ThisLink is interesting and explains some of its uses, but I haven't met anyone that actually tried it.

2006-04-12 01:53:56 PM
I only need one herb thank you very much. And it ain't sage.

2006-04-12 01:54:58 PM
"The universe ceased to exist over my left shoulder"

Yah. That was my (and most of my friends') experience too.

It makes you feel like you are turning/twisitng to the right, so I can see how your left side would seem to disappear. It's not really a pleasant experience at all.

We used it mainly to surprise the uninitiated.

I don't know anyone who liked it enough to repeatedly
do it.

It's not like weed or acid. it doesn't make the music sound better or anything. In fact music and any external stimuli can be really disconcerting while on it. It is best done in a dark, quiet room.

marleymaniac: any suggestions on where i can attain it?

Google is your friend. Rule #1 of buying anything semi-pseudo -legal online is "never give sources."

Oh, and the word is "obtain." No telling what you'll attain when you smoke it. :p

2006-04-12 01:56:54 PM
One time I ate a bunch of crushed morning glory seeds wich are known to contain LSA (not a typo). It was like being on weak acid combined with nausea. Do not reccomend :/

2006-04-12 01:57:28 PM
Salvia Divinorum will never catch on as a party drug...too profound. Now as a houseplant...it's a mighty fine addition to my indoor jungle.

2006-04-12 01:58:55 PM
I can't really imagine someone wanting to do Salvia more than once. Imagine being as freaked out tripping as possible, but not being able to remember taking a drug, or that such a thing as reality ever exsisted. The universe is just you and your messed up head, for all eternity. Luckly, eternity only lasts for a couple of minutes...

Plus, it tastes horrible.

2006-04-12 01:58:57 PM
I have to assume by "profound" you mean "farks you up."

/bad times

2006-04-12 02:00:02 PM
I've tried Morning Glory preparations. They amounted to about 1.5 hours of that "coming on" feeling one gets about 30-45 minutes after taking the molecule. Slight stomach discomfort. Hardly worth the input in terms of labor, though the seeds are cheap enough.

2006-04-12 02:02:06 PM
Farks you up indeed. "Travelling without moving" is more what I was thinking though. Not necessarily unpleasant, and for the Mazatecs a rite of passage and sacred experience.
