A page out of Apple's book: charge a premium, then make it obsolete in under a year.

I wonder how they will be offered, e.g. encoding, DRM, resolution, etc.

2006-04-10 10:35:08 AM
They'd rather have you watch it online than watch it on TiVo.

2006-04-10 10:35:37 AM
Hmm, probably a move to undermine iTunes, then start charging for other content Disney companies produce. Or (as the second half of the article states) only available to certain network customers.

Seems like the television media is learning a lesson from the RIAA and the MPAA. That's good.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the Disney / Pixar / Steve Jobs menage-a-trois

did I spell that right?

2006-04-10 10:37:53 AM
Speaking of ABC isn't it time for them to do another movie with Stephen King? Last thing they did was Kingdom Hospital.

You're all forgetting Jobs is a principle stock holder in Disney now.

I watched about 10 minutes of LOST once. It was so terrible that I vomited all over myself. Other people watching were so disgusted by my vomit that they ran outside onto the freeway and were struck and killed by cars. As I gave chase, I tripped over a power cord, causing a lamp to fall down and catch fire. 3 city blocks burned before the fire department could put it out. A satellite caught a glimpse of it and thought we were under attack by the russians. Several fighter jets were scattered over out nation's capital in anticipation for world war 3. Only last minute intervention from the CIA, acting on behalf of a group of very powerful Jewish reverse vampires could put a stop to it.
/I FREAKING HATE THAT SHOW

then why bother commenting... were not bagging out your TV/Movie/Entertainment of choice.

Some people like star trek. I dont, but i dont criticize them.

I like opera (as in the musical singing stuff) doesnt mean that everyone has to like it or agree with what i like.

hey mate im not the thread police. I pop on and off TF every now and then to get my daily TF fix. I just didnt see a reason for you comment.

and the "im going to get some popcorn" comments are much more prolific on TF so you just become oblivious to them after a few thousand non greenlight flamewars.

syberpud: Hmm, probably a move to undermine iTunes, then start charging for other content Disney companies produce.

Why on earth would Disney want to undermine iTunes?

Steve Jobs is about to become a (the?) major Disney stockholder, when the Pixar deal is complete. If anything, you will see way more collaboration between Disney and Apple.

2006-04-10 11:12:39 AM
Now only if more networks would put their canceled shows online for free.

//cmon I wanna see how this "Four Kings" show pans out.
// this spot reserved for "Heist".

Desperate Houswives = sucky clothed porn
Lost = Gilligan's Island with sex

House = Awsome.

'Nuff said.

2006-04-10 11:22:26 AM
Based on the fact that more & more shows moving to iPod/online viewings (Lost, Desperate Housewives, Battlestar Galactica, etc...), pretty soon, I predict you'll see first run movies online for a fee. Standard.

Why go to the movies (and deal with the cellphones, pagers, people who talk, people who keep getting up to leave/return) when you can enjoy them at home without distractions?

Also, you'll start seeing full network and television programming online as well as on TV (via satellite/cable/airwaves), but whether it'll be free or for a price remains to be seen.

Wait wait wait. TFA says there will be commercials in the things. Yea right. And you probably wont be able to download them. Will probably be in some weak ass propriatery format that half of everybody wont be able to see and even if they can its gonna be shiatty quality... WITH commercials. Screw that. I would rather pay iTunes for it.

They must be doing that out of guilt for showing us only first-season reruns all year long.

Season 1 Lost was the first time I actually LOOKED FORWARD to repeat episodes, so I could catch what I'd missed before. I would LIKE to do the same with Season 2, but for some reason, ABC seems allergic to showing anything new more than once.
